Nellis Air Force Base officials said Thursday the pilot who was flying an F-16 jet that crashed in a remote area north of Las Vegas did not survive.

The jet that crashed Tuesday night was an F-16C Fighting Falcon.

Although Air Force officials have not yet released the pilot’s identity, the pilot’s family identified him as 30-year-old Air Force Capt. Eric Ziegler from West Fargo, N.D.

Officials said the jet was being used in a combat training mission at the time before crashing about 20 miles west of Caliente on Bureau of Land Management property.

“Based on evidence recovered from the crash site, and after extensive aerial and ground search efforts, we know that the pilot did not eject from the aircraft prior to impact,” said Brig. Gen. T.J. O’Shaughnessy, 57th Wing commander.

Nellis officials said an investigation is underway into what caused the jet to go down.

May the wind always be under wings :salute:
