Olham 164 Posted October 21, 2011 This video presents a Fokker Dr.1 triplane in flight. Towards the end you can see the huge rudder response of the Dreidecker in horizontal flight. Enjoy!
+elephant 36 Posted October 21, 2011 Impressive! I only have to note that the plane on that video is powered by a radial engine...
Olham 164 Posted October 21, 2011 Yes, unfortunately; but I guess with a rotary, she might have even turned better - at least in one direction.
DukeIronHand 8 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) The "flat turn" that the Dr. 1 was famous for. Neat to see. Thanks for the video Olham and the other Spad thread also. Your still the king of cool links. Edit: Grammar - need more coffee. Edited October 21, 2011 by DukeIronHand
Cash 0 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) Thats what i call "turn on just a coin". Thanks for the Video. Cheers & gute Jagdt! Edited October 21, 2011 by Cash
Wayfarer 5 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) Thanks Olham, another interesting link. It's a timely display of what I am liable to be facing soon. I haven't seen a Dr.1 yet but the 'news' for today's mission said that Werner Voss had been shot down so I guess I'll start to encounter them before too long. Olham 164 Posted October 21, 2011 Thank you guys! Take care, Wayfarer - they are well climbing turn-devils. If you fly an energy fighter, make use of that. Fly away from them, attack, and fly away again. Only if you fly a Camel, you may want to turn-fight them.
Shiloh 12 Posted October 21, 2011 Thanks for posting Olham. I made some mental notes to help me out in my current Dr.1 campaign. I haven't yet employed an escape from trouble on a spiraling upward climb but I understand she does this better than any other crate.

tranquillo 10 Posted October 21, 2011 Thanks for that, Olham. I'll try it with my rc model when I've finished it. Flat turns.....love 'em.
Olham 164 Posted October 21, 2011 Wayfarer, sorry, I forgot what you were flying! With the R.E.8 your best defense would be to stay tight in formation. That bomber is my nemesis, even more than the Brisfit - they damage my engine every time. I attack one, and the others open fire - very caring community, those gunners! UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted October 21, 2011 Very impressive..thanks for posting this Olham (I pressume you have seen the episode of 'Dogfights') I am sure you have,,but just in case http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAKRvpBgdtw
Olham 164 Posted October 21, 2011 Yep, I have - but there may be some here who haven't. Probably the most intensive reported dogfight of the whole Great War? And the words of the victors for the fallen pilot are quite touching. As can be read here: http://www.theaerodrome.com/aces/germany/voss.php .
UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) I'm always moved by the Words of McCudden, praising the Skill of Voss....and am left to ponder "Who was the Albatros Pilot?" He had a Red Nosed Aircraft, as stated in the Commentary Edited October 21, 2011 by UK_Widowmaker
Olham 164 Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) The Albatros was flown by Karl Menckhoff from Jasta 3, Widowmaker. See this site about Rhys-Davids (who fell a month later, and only three miles from Voss' crash site - maybe they met in Heaven's Mess and had a few): http://en.wikipedia....hur_Rhys-Davids . Olham 164 Posted October 21, 2011 Yep - his Albatros didn't ´, but he did. Some were luckier than others.
