Wow - I was away from my computer for a long weekend and was surprised by the length of this tread when I got back to it just now.

First of all... Thank you all for the discussion and now that I know my careers will survive I will for sure be purchasing HiTR. I was thinking based on what I had read at the website that the most important aspect was adding the American squadrons and aircraft but it seems from this thread that it really is much more than that and I will get more out of OFF if I upgrade. So I will!

I would like to add, that I did a lot of research on what sim to get started in when I decided that I wanted to undertake a WWI simulation. (as you know there are choices). Because I treat these sims as an extension of learning history I highly value sims that are as historically accurate as possible. Before starting to play I read some books about WWI aviation and researched many of the key figures. I have a plan that I have built that will take me through the progression of the war flying in the careers of the pilots that were most interesting to me (hense why I didn't want careers interupted by installing HiTR). So I selected OFF from the other options out there and have only been flying OFF (BH&H) for about 2+ months now (still pretty much a novice.) I am NOT at all disappointed with my choice. The experience has proven to be all that I wanted and through this forum and my own trial and error I have gotten down my play in BH&H and will now add HiTR.

I think this is a great sim and a good value for the money and highly recommend it. I will play this until OFF2 is available and look forward to the exciting changes that promises!

Thank you everyone for helping me to get started.

Welcome to OFF once again, golden eagle - seeing what you aimed for, you made the right choice.

Did I add you to the OFF Forum Pilots Maps?

If not, please send me a PM with your town and country, and I'll do so.

Oh, and I will have a virtual Warsteiner - new guy buys the drinks! Make it large!

"I'm not too thrilled with P3 as it is, I just don't see sense in shelling out another 10 bucks if it's not going to make significant improvements."

Hi red,

I enjoyed the bog standard (if you can it that) P3 on my old rig - which was pretty weedy, as people here would tell you - and bought HitR as much as a gesture of good faith in OBD as anything else, to be honest. What I didn't expect was to have the game transformed on my PC. I gained FPS, the ground looked better, the sky looked better (when I wasn't being jolted around by the turbulence), the aircraft reacted better and the AI seemed much, much better to me.

Vanilla P3 is Ok - I think that's probably not contentious - however with HitR it's a very different and more worthwhile beast indeed. And I speak as someone who's hardly bothered with the additional aircraft that came with it. If you buy it, I don't think that you'll regret it.

Cheers,

Si

Good luck with your pilot(s), golden eagle - and be even more careful; the AI is more tricky now.

Olham:

Thanks for the heads up! I did notice an increase in my opponents ability in a dog fight.... took some damage and took me more firing passes to down my opponent because they seemed more evasive.

Like you - I enjoy flying the Albatros machines but using a DII right now flying as Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen in Jasta 2. I plan to shift him to Jasta 11 soon in Early 1917(found I could edit the career and shift Jastas) to pick up his career flying the DIII and then of course the DV.

Since you are in Germany - I occasionally make it to the Stuttgart or Koln area for work - are there any good Great War museums in those areas that you are aware of?

Another good tip is to use each warp for less time (i.e. come out of it much more often then re-enable for a short time again) - or use the "accelerate time" option instead.

(note you cannot re-bind the accelerate time keys or they will stop working).

Keyboard settings are listed on the FAQ (link near top of FAQ) or here http://snomhf.exofire.net/data/OFFcmdkeysNoCFS.png (by Mark "Homeboy")

It is rather common I suspect, when you purchase an 'Addon'...you can never remember what the original was like!..though, I bought HiTR..not because of the Aircraft..but because of the updated graphics/AI etc, etc.

Well worth the money! :drinks:

:salute: I don't remember, but I did the Homework before buying OFF and HiT . No matter which way I did it ( likes dis likes, money, immersion, ect) OFF was the best buy . I am happy with the choice. I do remember researching the and comparing products, playability, ect,, till my eyes watered and my finger tips hurt from pounding the key Board and asking questions. I have no regrets and the coin was well spent. They have a good product and stand behind it which is more then u can say for a lot of games and products. Edited by carrick58

.

I purchased HITR for the splashscreen of the N28 being piloted by the tiny little madman.

Sorry ... couldn't resist. I love OFF and all its add-ons dearly, but that particular piece of artwork is gawd-aweful.

Does the real Manfred not mind, when you fly under his name in the same Staffel???

Sorry, I have no knowledge about any Great War Museums actually.

But the Deutsches Museum in Munich is definitely worth a visit, and I guess they should have aircraft of WW1 there.

There is a part - the "Flugwerft Schleißheim" - where they have many aircraft - see here:

Especially this year there will be a program "100 Jahre Flugplatz Schleißheim" - see here:

HitR worth every cent imo.

Can't come at $10 ? That's a shame.

If the only improvement was the DH5 it would still, at full price, be an absolute bargain.

It's all about the willing suspension of disbelief and HitR achieves this in spades.

Here's to the Devs and OFF2.

Cheers

Here's another vote for HiTR and a word of encouragement for the developers! It must be tough, and I know things have been quiet, but hang in there and keep up the good work. You have my money when OFF2 comes out!

Best,

Tom
