ok, this is what the issue is with the deck number not showing properly...

as each individual skin represents each individual ship ---this is the important statement--- and each individual ship calls for a specific hull number for that ship, and each individual decal is only for said ship, the decal level = for the hull and island decals should be set to 0 (zero)

I've seen, and fixed this very same issue before, when a model has multiple skins & decals representing ships of the class

after simple text edit fixes it right up (unfortunately, all of them will need editing.. but so what?)

Guys, I thought you might be interested in decals for the CV-14 & CV-14_50 that represent CV-34 USS Oriskany, and the never completed CV-35 USS Reprisal, and CV-46 USS Iwo Jima. They are set up as though the war lasted another year and so these ships were completed on time. Also included in the ReadMe file is the necessary data to manually set them up to your liking as well. In addition I have included updates of the optional data files which now also include files for the CV-14_50 variant as well.

CV-34, CV-35 & CV-46.7z

Samurai, any chance of seeing this in the future...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Garrett_County_(LST-786)

That would be sweet for the brown water navy in the Mekong Delta.

They where designated AGPs as PBR tenders when recommissioned

I'm not sure if the Harnett County was the same class but these would be must haves for Wings over South Vietnam. or Wings Over the Mekong Delta. WOMD ?

One small question about the decals is that I can get the CV number (14 for the Ticonderoga, for example) to show up at one end of the flight deck but not at both.

There will be a "14" at the back of the flight deck, or at the front, but not both.

The Decals.INI is the stock one included with the package - it seems that the first entry is ignored, and no number shows up at the front of the ship, only at the stern.

I see the same problem in one of your screenshots above.

[Decal001]

MeshName=flightdeck

DecalLevel=2

DecalFacing=TOP

FilenameFormat=USNCV

Position=-1.0,112.5

Scale=18.00

DecalMaxLOD=4

[Decal002]

MeshName=flightdeck

DecalLevel=2

DecalFacing=TOP

FilenameFormat=USNCV

Position=-1.0,-131.0

Scale=18.00

DecalMaxLOD=4

Does anyone have any idea about this?

Did you forget to place the "CV-14_Essex\CV-14 Essex class\Objects\Decals\Essex" folder from the download into your "C:\Users\User Name\Saved Games\ThirdWire\SF2 WWII PTO\Objects\Decals" folder? Also the "FilenameFormat=" entries are wrong, the Decals.INI for CV-14 USS Ticonderoga should look like the entry below. Each ships has its own number and the one in the USNGrey folder is the same except for lacking the three numerical digits on the end of each file name.

[Decal001]
MeshName=flightdeck
DecalLevel=2
DecalFacing=TOP
FilenameFormat=Essex/CVnuma014
Position=-1.0,112.5
Scale=18.00
DecalMaxLOD=4

[Decal002]
MeshName=flightdeck
DecalLevel=2
DecalFacing=TOP
FilenameFormat=Essex/CVnumb014
Position=-1.0,-131.0
Scale=18.00
DecalMaxLOD=4

[Decal003]
MeshName=hull
DecalLevel=2
DecalFacing=BACK
FilenameFormat=Essex/CVname014
Position=0.0,6.5
Scale=6.00
DecalMaxLOD=4

;[Decal004]
;MeshName=stack
;DecalLevel=2
;DecalFacing=LEFT
;FilenameFormat=USNSHIPNUM014
;Position=-3.5,27.5
;Scale=5.00
;DecalMaxLOD=4

;[Decal005]
;MeshName=island
;DecalLevel=2
;DecalFacing=RIGHT
;FilenameFormat=USNSHIPNUM014
;Position=-3.75,22.5
;Scale=5.00
;DecalMaxLOD=4

Never mind, I figured it out.

A single mesh, like the FlightDeck mesh on the CV-14, will only accept a particular decal once (front or rear, but not both).

I can put the stock USNCV number (the plain white ones) at the rear  and the stock USNCVNUM (white with a black shadow) at the front, or vice versa, but not the same decal at both the front at rear at the same time.

Strange, I've never struck a problem like that before. However I have it working now.

One other point to make is that all the decals in this package are set up as DecalMaxLOD=4, but in the INI file only uses three LOD levels.

I have added two more, and to reduce the slide-show effect with this ship I have changed the Decals.INI to DecalMaxLOD=3 for all decals and changed the ship's INI file to read:

[LOD001]

Filename=CV-14.lod

Distance=250

[LOD002]

Filename=CV-14lo1.lod

Distance=1500

[LOD003]

Filename=CV-14lo1.lod

Distance=2500

[LOD004]

Filename=CV-14lo1.lod

Distance=10000

[LOD005]

Filename=CV-14lo2.lod

Distance=20000

You can adjust to taste, but this set-up uses the most highly detailed LOD out to a much shorter distance, and only has the decals visible out to 2500 meters, which is about as far as you can see them anyway.

I also changed all the BMPs to JPGs and reduced the size of the biggest ones by half, and the effect on frame rates is good.

You should not be using stock numbers for the flight deck numbers as all of the necessary decals for the Essex should be in your "Objects\Decals\Essex" folder. Note that each ship has two flight deck decals, I am using CV-21 USS Boxer in the following example. The CV-14 variant has "Essex/CVnuma021" for the fore number and "Essex/CVnumb021" for the aft number. The CV-14_50 variant in contrast uses "Essex/CVnumw021" forward and "Essex/CVnumx021" aft. Both version use the same "Essex/CVname021" decal for the ship's name on the stern. Only the CV-14_50 variant is supposed to have numbers on the side of the island and they use "USNSHIPNUM021". Also do not reduce the "DecalMaxLOD=4" to match the number of entries in the "CV-14.INI" because then the textures will not display on the ship and they will appear as completely black LODs.

Edit:(Note: letters in bold set by me to emphasize the difference in file names.)

ok, this is what the issue is with the deck number not showing properly...

as each individual skin represents each individual ship ---this is the important statement--- and each individual ship calls for a specific hull number for that ship, and each individual decal is only for said ship, the decal level = for the hull and island decals should be set to 0 (zero)

Wrench, how does this work? When I set the "DecalLevel=" to 0 all the decals disappeared. In order for all decals on the CV-14 and CV-14_50 to be visible I found that all "DecalLevel=" in all Decals.INI files need to be set to 2 like in the example I posted above.

I set them all to 0 on all the decals inis, and they worked perfectly for me, on all the ships (mind you, I've only done the WW2 versions).

Look at the names of the individual decals ... they're all set for each hull in the class, as are the individual skins. Setting them to 0 locks them TO each ship (CV-21 gets ONLY the "21" named decals.

You would set them to 2 if there was ONLY one skin set, and allowing the game engine to use the names list to randomly select hull number and name when the ships appear (also at random) in single missions. Just like the stock 3W carriers/DD/FFG/etc

Sorry I was away and couldn't address the recent questions.

The ship's decals and "skins" are set up in such a way that the main texture setting, "USNgrey," will automatically apply the proper decals when the game engine assigns the ship to a task force. This is how the stock ships work. But in addition to that, there is a texture folder for each ship of the class, with a fixed decal assigned. This is so that if you set up a single mission without a task force and want a specific number ship, you can do so simply by selecting the matching texture name. Almost all of my major vessels are set up this way. You might never use that little feature, but it's there.

Oh, and please use the included decals for the deck instead of stock ones. I made them semi-translucent and faded so that the creases of the deck planks are visible underneath.

Speaking of skins, Sokol is working on historical camo for the ship. He's got a screenshot up in the support topic thread in case you missed it.

With regards to the decal.inis, I remember reading that normal maps count as a decal level, so I wasn't sure if setting them to 0 would work. To be honest, I just copied those settings from my other ships which I knew for a fact work properly.

Unrelated note: Here's a gun for a Korean corvette I'm working on.

post-33721-0-10884500-1444139668.jpg

It's also used on quite a lot of smaller cold-war-era ships and lower-budget modern navies.

Emerson Electric "Emerlec-30" mount for Oerlikon 30mm/75 KCB cannons on the Donghae and Pohang class corvettes?

attachicon.gif30MM_L75_KCB + Sounds & Gunner Templet.7z

Yep, that's the one. Thanks.

I'm planning on releasing the Donghae, Pohang, and Ulsan classes in one pack. I'll follow that with each of the three "KDX" destroyers, and some NK boats and mini-subs for targets.

Sorry for the radio silence. Travelling, family stuff, and work have been getting in the way.

Here are some screenshots of the South Korean corvettes. All of the Pohang series are pretty much done. I still need to finish the earlier Donghae, and then I'll upload the pack.

The Flight III/IV versions with 2x 76mm and 4x 40mm have quite a big broadside for such cute little ships.

I'm going to keep focusing on the Far East and Pacific, since Angelp has been doing a good job with European boats. I'll be working on more Korean ships (North and South), at least one modern Russian ship, and a couple of very big Japanese vessels.

The Ulsan class is coming along steadily.

post-33721-0-81286200-1456290647.jpg

Also, I haven't done any JMSDF escorts in a long time and felt inspiration calling, so I decided to start an Abukuma class.

post-33721-0-52015000-1456290646.jpg

The overly-complicated mast will probably take longer than building and texturing the rest of the ship.

More work on the Ulsan class. Flight I with 30mm guns first:

post-33721-0-41791500-1456669954.jpg

I know these aren't very exciting, since you can't land on them and they don't contribute much in terms of air defense. But I want to have as many modern ROKN ships as possible for the Korean terrain and campaigns.

While working on these ships, I got fed up with my old Mk32 torpedo launchers. I rebuilt and retextured them.

post-33721-0-00768800-1456669956.jpg

If only I had time to go back and retrofit all my older models with the better components I've been building.

2 days ago, started basic skin:

post-33721-0-49654600-1457004066_thumb.jpg

Today, finished. Just one week after laying down the hull.

post-33721-0-10344600-1457004077_thumb.jpg

I'll try to get the entire pack done by sometime this weekend.

By the way, the US transferred eight LST-1s to South Korea where they were in commission as the Un Bong class from 1955 to 2006. Wasn't someone working on one of those? We could have amphibious task forces for the ROK if so.

WhiteBoySamurai,

Thanks for all the hard work. Your ships make this series so much more enjoyable.

I hope to employ the Korean Navy on an Expeditionary mission into the South China Sea terrain I am working on.

Kindest regards - Krfrge

Thank you, too. I'm really looking forward to your South China Sea terrain. I intend to finish the rest of the modern People's Liberation Army Navy ships and maybe some PLA ground vehicles so that we'll have all the toys for that sandbox.
