Slartibartfast 153 Posted May 3, 2012 This is from the Judge who sentanced the so called Shoe bomber great words, Remember the guy who got on a plane with a bomb built into his shoe and tried to light it? Did you know his trial is over? Did you know he was sentenced? Did you see/hear any of the judge's comments on TV or Radio? Didn't think so.!!! Everyone should hear what the judge had to say. Ruling by Judge William Young, US District Court. Prior to sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant if he had anything to say His response: After admitting his guilt to the court for the record, Reid also admitted his 'allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the religion of Allah,' defiantly stating, 'I think I will not apologize for my actions,' and told the court 'I am at war with your country.' Judge Young then delivered the statement quoted below: Judge Young: 'Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court imposes upon you. On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on each count to run consecutively. (That's 80 years.) On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years again, to be served consecutively to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon you for each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 that's an aggregate fine of $2 million. The Court accepts the government's recommendation with respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines. The Court imposes upon you an $800 special assessment. The Court imposes upon you five years supervised release simply because the law requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further. This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence. Now, let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through the fire before. There is too much war talk here and I say that to everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, we deal with individuals as individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As human beings, we reach out for justice. You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether the officers of government do it or your attorney does it, or if you think you are a soldier, you are not-----, you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice. So war talk is way out of line in this court You are a big fellow. But you are not that big. You're no warrior. I've known warriors. You are a terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had it right when you first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and the TV crews were, and he said: 'You're no big deal.' You are no big deal. What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led you here to this courtroom today? I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing? And, I have an answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search this entire record, it comes as close to understanding as I know. It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we individually choose. Here, in this society, the very wind carries freedom. It carries it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom, so that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly, individually, and discretely. It is for freedom's sake that your lawyers are striving so vigorously on your behalf, have filed appeals, will go on in their representation of you before other judges. We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake though. It is yet true that we will bear any burden; pay any price, to preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom. Mark it well. The world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. The day after tomorrow, it will be forgotten, but this, however, will long endure. Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America, the American people will gather to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not war, individual justice is in fact being done. The very President of the United States through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged and juries of citizens will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to mold and shape and refine our sense of justice. See that flag, Mr. Reid? That's the flag of the United States of America. That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands for freedom. And it always will. Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down. So, how much of this Judge's comments did we hear on our TV sets? We need more judges like Judge Young. Pass this around. Everyone should and needs to hear what this fine judge had to say. Powerful words that strike home. If this has crossed the line into the political side of things then I apologise... just that they do make good sense.

eraser_tr 29 Posted May 3, 2012 The only thing I would disagree with is that terrorists zeal against us isn't so simple as some platitude about hating our freedom.
+whiteknight06604 934 Posted May 3, 2012 oh they hate us for many reasons. All of them equally bankrupt. they hate and are jealous of us. they have a great deal of trouble understanding the modern world. Mostly because they come from backwards nations or nations that are so under developed but they also hate us out of ignorance. they really don't know anything about us but what they are told. for generations they have been told that all their ills, all the evil that has befallen them has been the west fault. They have and prob will continue to lash out blindly at things they hate for the stupidest of reasons or reasons they have been spoon fed and believe because they have been brought up to never question the teachings or the leaders that their faith has. if they were not so dangerous I would almost pity them. +Dave 2,322 Posted May 3, 2012 The only thing I would disagree with is that terrorists zeal against us isn't so simple as some platitude about hating our freedom. I disagree, the bottom line is that they want to control us under their Shiria laws. The fact that we exercise freedom that is contrary to those laws just burns their ass. They think we are out to exterminate their religion and way of life. That isn't true. They do not want freedom of religion, they do not believe in it and that makes us the enemy. So yes they hate our freedom because its contrary to their beliefs.
Lexx_Luthor 57 Posted May 4, 2012 Correct erasur, at one level they are the "blowback" -- a technical term for those in the business so to speak -- reaction against the giant banks' and civilian politicos' foreign policy. Best Quote, ever, never thought of it like this before.:: Fred Reed, USMC :: People were perfectly friendly, and showed no disposition to kill us for our freedoms. Perhaps they realized that we no longer had that many
+whiteknight06604 934 Posted May 4, 2012 um lol. I'm sure that dirt farmers in Pakistan are really concerned with US banking. they are told from day one all their problems are somonelses fault, they are taught hate and told that the afterlife is better than their current life. they see nothing but pain and death and poverty and then are told they are in that state because of us. our freedom aloows us to live this way.it's alien to their cultures and the fringe and the gullible lash out. funny how long before all of our alledged evils they were still acting this way. every excuse thye come up with or people give them is just that... an excuse. nothing excuses the wanton murder of civilians, and the subjugation of their own people. the education systems(where they exist) are nothing but prpagand tools designed to mold people into tools to be used by the state or clerics.dictatorships and and thugs rule the middle east and the fault of their barbarity lays COMPLETELY with themselves. eraser_tr 29 Posted May 4, 2012 Oh to be sure there are those who are simply as ignorant/hateful as you're saying. But you've also got to consider the 100+ years of geopolitical/economic games played by the British and us.
Lexx_Luthor 57 Posted May 8, 2012 white I hear ya man, but it doesn't explain the blowback. Sometimes these losers terror their own .govs, often when those corrupt .govs are puppets we install or prop up. Communist chinese are targets of Xinjiang terrorists, not that Communists have many freedoms to be attacked for, but they are meddling with local cultures, as commies tend to do. Blowback comes down to basic street sense. Yea, dirt farmers in Pakistan may only see the effects or end results of US banking (actually, global banking) when their nation is put into debt which means poverty which means terrorist recruitment which means blowback. Same over here ... many see the lost jobs and homes, but they don't understand (ask them) their own banking system nor legal tender laws that force, by politico's law, every soul into dependence on bank debt. I have, however, noticed the complete disappearance of those [ XYZ Bank Me ] bumper stickers on soccer moms' SUVs. And that is today's good news. --- eraser, found something new (for me). I was looking at the Azores for use on my big map, and stumbled on an old war -- Liberal War -- Portuguese constitutionalists vs absolutists. Well that turned interesting, since one of the top RN admirals of the time took command of constitutionalist fleet, along with RN sailors. The UK politicos and rear echelon navy lords hated him for that. ~> Admiral Sir Charles Napier ... played a primary role in the Star Spangled Banner battle as well. I guess sometimes really good guys can be on the wrong side lol.
exhausted 55 Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) You guys really hit a nerve of mine saying we don't have all the freedoms that we used to, but I realized that growing up through the early to mid 2000s. I will still say that we are a great society and our concentration of young people with a desire to stand up for us truly chokes me up sometimes. I wish that worthless scum, Reid would have been in Fallujah as 'soldier' like he claims. We wouldn't be having this conversation today and the trial would never have happened. His burial would have been long forgotten by now. He is truly no big deal. Care for a cock-meat sandwich there, Richard Reid? UK_Widowmaker 571 Posted May 8, 2012 Great speech. Bottom Line is: They hate us, because we live in the 21st Century...and they still live in the 11th Century
Atreides 144 Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) Awesome sppech by teh Judge. True incident/story, almost 8 years, did not make headlines, was hushed up British Airways flight Capt announces that they're about being descent for Riyadh airport goes through and then states that all passengers should turn their clock back 500 years. Because of what he said he was never again allowed to fly the Saudi route (was most likely what he wanted, who knows) EDIT: @ Exhausteds' last statement, Edited May 9, 2012 by Atreides
