Type of Mission: Air Race

Aircraft: F-4E Phantom II

Route: D1 to D10

Loadout: Any

Difficulty Settings: All settings must be at least Medium or Hard.

Victory conditions:
The clock starts when the mission has loaded.
The race is over when the aircraft has landed without damage on airstrip D-10. The player is encouraged to quit the game as soon as that happens to get an accurate time from the game itself.

RULES:

* You may not edit the mission.

* You may not change the aircraft. You may however choose service and skin as you see fit.

* Autopilot is allowed, but... discouraged. You will find using the autopilot puts you at a disadvantage. The same goes for Time Compression.

* Average Crusie Speed for this route is 25 minutes. You are encouraged to beat it.

The mission can be downloaded here. It requires Strike Fighters 2.

Back in the Flanker 2.0 days there was a challenge (I for the life of me can't remember it) but challenge missions were setup almost weekly and this mission just reminded me of it.

a pity we don't have multiplayer in SF2...

I have Major Lee's "Air Race" terrain. It's kinda cool, as the "pylons" are mountain spires

Second attempt shaved off some time.

No ammo and just tanks carried, skipped all the waypoints but #8 and cut the corner there too.

First try, above, was with two wing tanks, burner to mach 0.95 at 1,600' MSL.  Then mil power to the end.  Dump the tanks when dry.

Second try was all three tanks, climb to 1,600' MSL burners until the tanks ran dry, dumped them and then full military to the end.

Maybe it was just the lower drag paint scheme?
