+RAF_Louvert Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 . You have one of the good ones Tony, and you are going to love that flight. PT-17 was the very first plane I ever flew in. . Quote
CowboyTodd41 Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 They're a blast to ride in. Have fun! Quote
+Olham Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Tony, I guess you deserved it! Enjoy every second! We expect a report! Quote
Hauksbee Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 My ex-wife was the grand-niece of the Stearman who designed the PT-17. (My brush with fame!) Quote
MudWasp48 Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Happy B-Day! Take lots of pics and have a great ride. Quote
HumanDrone Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great (and safe) ride, And I hope you get lots of pics, but don't let that get in the way of a great ride! I took my son on his first ride on Aug. 17th, There was a small fly-in at our local airport. One of the biplanes (Garmin-equipped, no less!) had a sticker front & center on the instrument panel: "Intentional Straight and Level Flight PROHIBITED!" Your anticipation must be growing. It's Thursday evening... Quote
nbryant Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Not that you would need it but just in case have one of those little plastic bags in your pocket........ just in case! Quote

Typhoon Posted September 12, 2013 Author Posted September 12, 2013 Update, The flight has not happened as of yet we are going on Saturday to make the arrangements. As it happened last Saturday I was volunteering at a local wine festival and one gentleman came up and said "nice hat". It was a hat that I had purchased at a RCAF Museum n North Bay On. It has a RCAF Roundel on the front. He then asked me if I had been in the air force. I indicated that I had and we chatted for a few minutes and he told me that he was in charge of the Lancaster restoration project at the The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association. This is the same group that owns the Stearman so he invited me down next Saturday for a personal tour and make arrangements for the flight. So hopefully soon I will have a report. Just lately I have been extremely busy volunteering for different events in town relating to the War of 1812 and umpiring baseball tournaments I haven't had much free time. Tony Quote
HumanDrone Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 That sounds like an upgrade to what your wife had originally planned! For free! Very, very cool, we wait with keen anticipation! Quote
+Olham Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Do you mean you will be flying in a Lancaster bomber? Man, that would be quite something. But I guess you meant the Stearman? Still - you may have access to the bomber with him - maybe you can even get inside and man the battle stations! We hope to see some pics, Tony, and I wish you that you can call off the one or the other date - this chance is so rare! Quote
Hauksbee Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Any progress on this fascinating project? Quote
Typhoon Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 Well due to either weather or previous commitments the flight hasn't happened yet, probably in the spring now. In the meantime I have started volunteering to help restore this: Working on the leading edge of the wings now Pics next Tuesday Tony Quote
