+dtmdragon Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Hay guys, A question for those with their SF2 mods folder in an external had drive connected via USB 2.0 Does it take any longer to start the game or cause any lags during a mission etc? I'm wondering if the data transfer through the USB cord might slow things down? I badly need to make some room on my c drive, its dam near full with all the add on stuff I've put in my mods folder over the last 6 years lol Cheers, Dan. Edited June 5, 2014 by dtmdragon Quote
+daddyairplanes Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I have my NF5 foldr on an external. No noticable lag, and the exe acts as a stock install when the external isnt hooked up. Course thats on my system, hp pavillion dv6 with Win7 and 8GB mem. Cant speak for other systems Quote

Some times ago, I had done this with no noticable problem. But my Mod install was realtivly smaller than now Quote
+dtmdragon Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 All right well I'll give it a go. I've just copied and pasted all my mods folders to the external hard drive and windows reckons its going to take three hours! This is why I do my SF2 back ups overnight lol Quote
+dtmdragon Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 So far no noticeable change in performance other than my PC's hard drive now has an extra 229 GB of space back. Quote
Wrench Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 all the more room for p0rn!!! I tested a old 1stGen from my external, since the exe is inside the game install, and it worked just fine! All my SF2 backups are zipped, so didn't want to unzip them Quote

USB 3.0 (4Gbps) or 3.1 should be good though. Quote

+daddyairplanes Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 does sound like drinking from a straw rather than a glass. but mine is USB2, and as reported works fine. Quote
MigBuster Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 So are you saying I may run into issues due to the data transfer speed (USB 2.0: 480Mbps)? No I am just listing the different interface speeds of each standard - how it actually performs will vary depending on setup. The CPU, Graphics card and RAM are the performance factors once in the 3D game - the actual disk you have it on will only really affect loading times. In your case - you probably have an old (near full) SATA 2 mech Hard Disk - so you might not notice as much difference running from USB 2.0 (the stick is also solid state!) Quote
