Actually it was used years earlier than the world has found out how any pod racer should look. Was used in Hungary for oil-well fires. Later debuted in Kuwait after DS. 

 

I also loved to drive the KraZ was a handy beast.

The use of the VK-1 engine for de-icing the runways was common in the WP contries.

Here one of the east german versions.

Thanks for info logan. I'd already see some pictures of this T-34 Transporter but never knew (or rather look for) anything about its story. It's one pretty interesting tinkering concept.

The use of jet engines for firefighting is not unusual

We used "Sotjimas"  with Derwents in the KLu for de-icing runways...
