do you have a Level 1 decal listed in the decals ini???

Level 1 designates the squadron

I'd recommend using my "fake" SqTail decal.  I've used this a LOT on skins (particularly for WW2) when a squadron exists in the stock squadronlist, and I want the name to show.

entry would be something like this (example from PTO P-40E) Adjust X/Y coordinates as necessary. Of course, you'll lhave to change the decal's number and so forth. Leave the Scale= statement as is

The rudder or an aileron are equally good meshes

[Decal013]
MeshName=Rudder
DecalLevel=1
DecalFacing=LEFT
FilenameFormat=P-40E1-CU/7FS/SqTail
Position=-5.5,0.0
Scale=0.00001
DecalMaxLOD=1

you don't even have to have it IN a particular skin folder, but can be placed in the root of the /Decals main folder.

Of course, you'll have to rewrite the pathway...

I've attached the SqTail tga in the zip

oops caps....

this is doing my fekkin head in....even with that  nowt..

I assumed one a\c and one skinmeans greyed out as its a single sqd or unit.?...

on above inis   splinter shows country while others dont they are greyed out splinter isnt....odd...ie

this below is from the single seat f4e   wont show properly either

I'm not quite tracking, Russ.

below is a screenie of the P-40 I posted above, using the sqtail decal, with the statements also as above. You can see the 7th TFS is active (yeah, I know, I should edit the squadron list inis 'displayed name' to reflect the 7th WW2 name)

again, is there a Level=1 decal entry in all the skins decals inis?

Reading the last post, you say the COUNTRY is grayed out as well??? That means you have no Level=0 (which are the national insignias) in you decals ini.

that's also easily fixed, pretty much the same way the squadron.  Pick a mesh (another aileron or elevator and do this:

[Decal***]
MeshName= **pick a mesh**
DecalLevel=0
DecalFacing=LEFT
FilenameFormat=Insignia
Position=-5.5,0.0
Scale=0.00001
DecalMaxLOD=1

I call THAT one my "fake insignia", although it calls for a stock insignia decal, pulled from the object cat, just so reduced in size no one can see it.

I even wrote a tutorial for the KB on this very subject!! :)

IIRC, hgbn had a method for this, but instead of shrinking the decal, you name it something not in the decal folder and assigned to the level you need to show. Didnt even have to be on the part as it wouldnt have anything.

this is the decal ini entry from the thread,  just cant remember what thread it was exactly.  used it myself to get Dhimari squadrons in game,  tho for heavies i just leave the unit as airlines or Air Mobility Command. as was from the thread

[DecalXXX]

 DecalLevel=1

ok so am I correct

[squadron483]
Name=57th ATG   < must be same as squadron name in the a\c ini and texture ini ?
DisplayName=57th Adversary Tactics Group (Splinter)   < can be any name you like ?
Nation=USAF AGGRESSORS   < obviously nation name...

cos this wont show..in units drop down

[squadron483]
Name=57th ATG
DisplayName=57th ATG "Flogger"
Nation=AGRS

.but this will..if I change it with these entries in sqd list and texture ini etc

[squadron483]
Name=353TFS
DisplayName=353rd TFS Black Panthers
Nation=USAF

Is that 353d TFS showing up twice? Iirc it is a stock unit as well and if working should be there twice now

In your level 1 decals, did you number the decal itself with the number of the selected unit (ie SqTail483) ?

Is your nationlist ini updated for the AGRS nation?

Sorry if you've covered these, but its just a few observations reading last couple posts

I did a little test and this is what I found out and seem to work. I post only relevant parts of the inis.

nation.ini

//DO_NOT_DELETE-->USED_FOR_LOADOUT_SCREEN-->NationsMenu

You need at least one decal for level 0, 1 and 2 for each menu to show. It works even if the decal doesn't exist, you just have to have it in the INI. I recommend placing these decals on different meshes, as they seem to count towards the maximum decal per mesh.

Hope that helps!
