+ravenclaw_007 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 i´m currently working on the 2.75 inch rockets and the LAU-3 rocket launcher and i found some problem here the flight manuals i have mention this 2.75 inch warheads M151 / M156 / M247 / M274 / Mk67 / WDU-4A / WTU-1B all of this warheads are short in lenght and fit perfectly in to a LAU-3 rocket launcher with a nose cover but as i mention above i rework all rockets and so i made the M229 / M259 and not yet done are the M261 / M267 / M264 / M255 / M257 and M278 this warheads are all long and will stick out of the launchers nose cover now my question why on earth do we have in game this LAU-3 (and other) launchers with rockets that never fit in to it ??? are this long warheads only for Army launchers without any nose cover as i mention above the long warheads are not mention in any fighter weapons manual i have ??? another possibility is that the dimensions i have for the LAU-3 are wrong , if anybody has reliable info on this dimensions that would help the 2 rockets on the left are to long for the LAU-3 and that is the result any help or info are more than welcome 4 Quote
yakarov79 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Lau launchers are in few "sizes" . I think it also depends on manufacturer. I wil try to find something in my "library" New Lau are capable of firing Mk40 and mk66 motors and are sligltly longer than old ones. but also there are few sizes (but some sources says that ther is only one size) I think i never seen army launchers with covers. Navy launchers have larger radius. Problem wirh sources about rockets is that you are not sure which fuse was measured. So need to measure fuse-warhead-motor. By the way nice job with those rockets. 1 Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 for the rockets i have pretty good material including drawings and almost all measurements , for the launchers i have only a few drawings and the weapons manual from some fighter aircrafts for the LAU-3 i have 2 measurements one with 6,4 feet and one with 7,3 feet i took the metric measurements from the first drawing - Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 i found this picture of a LAU-3A loaded with WDU-4/A and M151 and this is how it looks on my LAU-3 model it looks like that my LAU-3 model is ok , i loaded the rocket fully to the end of the launcher , i dont know how far this rockets reach in to the launcher on the real thing what brings me back to the question above , are this long warheads only for use on ARMY M - launchers ??? they dont have any cover 1 Quote
KJakker Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I ran the numbers listed above using the measurements from the upper and lower diagrams. Is it possible that the lower one is showing an alternate front fairing, one that is about 731mm long for longer rockets, in contrast to the standard 521mm fairing? If you looking at the images the lower illustration also shows a more gradual curve ending in a point which differs from the hemispherical shape of the shorter cover and might allow for the extended length to be fully covered. It is just an idea, I did a little looking around but have yet to find anything to support it. Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 the drawing with the more pointed front fairing is from the F-4F weapons delivery manual , i think it is more for low drag purpose as for more length i think i make two versions of this Rocket pods one with cover and without this long warhead rockets and one version without cover but with long warhead rockets until we know for sure that this long warhead rockets not only for the army's M-pods Quote
yakarov79 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 army model M261 - 168.15 cm lenght, diameter- 40.32 cm LAU-61 - (dpends on model) G/A - 194,4cm lenght, some are 167.94 cm I think C/A model and D/A. diameter 41,32cm. l thermocoated models are larger in diameter by around 1cm. As for 7 tube rocket launcher , M260 - 168.15cm same as 19 shooter, while LAU-68 some are same as 61 but there you can find extended version like F/A - 180.6cm. LAU-131/A - 152cm. That photo above with A-1, are we 100% sure this is LAU-3 ? Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 i just found this picture , it is the first picture i have shown the M151 and the long M229 warhead together with Mk40 rocket motors and guess where i found it , 189th Assault Helicopter Company , Avenger Photo Page i´m more and more convinced that this large warheads are for use on helicopters by Army , Air force and Navy Quote

+CrazyhorseB34 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) I have seen a bunch of pics from Nam with are choppers with the longer warhead sticking way far out the tube. In fact I think that might be mentioned in the text of the Osprey Cobra Units in Vietnam book. I think on an M-159 they should stick out quite a bit. Edited August 9, 2015 by CrazyhorseB34 Quote

+CrazyhorseB34 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Found this: Except for the specialized installations in early high-speed interceptors, the MK 4/40 rockets were almost exclusively employed from multi-tube launch pods. A wide variety of these pods were used, and the most important were: LAU-3/A: 19-tube launcher LAU-32/A: 7-tube launcher LAU-59/A: 7-tube launcher LAU-60/A: 19-tube launcher LAU-61/A: 19-tube launcher LAU-68/A: 7-tube launcher LAU-69/A: 19-tube launcher M158: 7-tube launcher; M158A1 was identical to LAU-68/A M159: 19-tube launcher; M159A1 was identical to LAU-61/A M200: 19-tube launcher; M200A1 was identical to LAU-69/A The LAU-series was generally used by the fixed-wing aircraft of the Air Force and Navy, while the M-series launchers were used by the Army's helicopters. Most (possibly all) of these pods could be used with either the MK 4 or the MK 40 rockets. 1 Quote

shomu1 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Would it be possible to get slant loaded variants of the twin pod setups? As in loaded on the outer and bottom stations of the TER as opposed to in the two top stations? Quote
+ravenclaw_007 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 sorry the game does not allow that , i try that but i would need a ASYMMETRICAL entry in the weapons_data i made that setting for the 2BR_TER but the game does not allow that for rocket pods you have to add 2BR to the weaponstation on the aircraft you like to use this 2BR_TER.7z Quote
