Serbian A-A kills in Balkan campaigns?

Recommended Posts

I know "official" NATO loses acounts for Balklan campaigns. But anyone know where to see the Serbian claims for the campaign? I read some entries about Seriban Fulcrums shooting down F-16 in A-A combat, but cannot find it anymore.

Thanks!

You can not see it because it has not happened, all 16 aircraft were almost unusable. 14 single-seater and two-seater without radar. Warning devices were failing. Radars were unusable and were therefore unable to fire their R-27 missiles. They are deaf and blind, but they are consciously took off to their death. Many wonder why, I say ... you know ... when your enemy is throwing bombs at your hometown ... not thinking a lot ... but fly in combat.

As Strahi states there has never been any actual claims like that.

This 52 min video was a series of interviews with the surviving MiG-29 Serbian pilots but seems to be blocked now......if you can find another copy it's worth watching to get an idea of the situation they were in.

The two aircraft lost during Allied Force were an F-16C and of course the F-117. While the fighters didn't play a big part in the air war, the SAM force never was completely neutralized and actually played thrir cards well given the circumstances

And the Fishbeds? Were those used in combat?

Used probably but don't have much detail.

At the start (1991) Federal Yugoslav MiG-21s and other aircraft were used over Slovenia.

Later on when fighting moved to Croatia/Bosnia both sides apparently used some MiG-21s. Croatia had a small number including defected MiG-21bis initially but purchased 40 more from Ukraine and these were apparently used in a large 1995 offensive.

The OOB for Serbia 1999 shows MiG-21bis..........this link from above shows some may have seen action.

Maybe the J-7 were Albanian Air Force birds?

I do not believe this fact, the MiG-21 were not active, also an Albanian air force was grounded, their J-7 were not able to fly for years.

Two squadrons of MiG-21 were in an underground airport near Pristina, all survived the bombing, after the ceasefire was signed all flew to Batajnica near Belgrade.

Thanks strahi, the pics on the underground bases are just great, will like to know how Air Forces acted during the civil war times. Need to dig for that.

Thats isnt true...Im from Serbia...We had only about 10 flyable 29's  even some planes didn have radar (radar wasnt in function)..We only shooted down one f-117... Mig-21 Fishbed didnt take off in that NATO campaign because he didnt have good avionics to fight against NATO airplanes...
