Hi All. First time posting in this forum. I discovered Strike Fighters 2 over a week ago. This is the kind of game I was looking for. I had a love for Strike Commander and F-15 Strike Eagle of eons ago. Anyway enough of introductions.

I have a problem. I downloaded Operation Desert Storm for SF2 from the files SF2_ODS_Part1-3. I am able to play the mod except that when I try to land on the carrier decks (any one) the deck is not hardened so the aircraft sinks through the ship and crashes into the ocean. The cats work fine at the start of the mission but the landing is the problem.

I have read other posts about this issue but I hate how posts get hijacked (as in the posts goes off on a tangent on how to install the upgrade etc) or people give vague responses such as "seems like a carrier without LODs." Like what on earth does that mean.

So can someone in the know please tell me what causes an aircraft carrier's deck to be sink through and not the cats? Also what needs to be done to fix this? I installed the update SF2E_ODS_Update1 but that did not solve the problem. I tried to copy carriers from other mods that had no problems, still same issue. So yes, a clear answer as to what would cause this would be appreciated so I can understand the innards of the game better. Thank you.

Are you useing stock planes or addons ???  ooohh where's my manners welcome aboard. sounds like that campaign's files corrupted your carrier files that's just a wild guess,but, before you do a uninstall and start over,, go into game options and set Landing to easy and see what happens ,,, if you go through a uninstall and start over ,,, put your carriers from objects/ ground objects into a new folder from the new install,, before you install your mod,, after mod install go to objects/ground objects,, see if the mod added carriers,, play it and see what happens ,,me I had planes falling through the decks at the cats but they were planes that were added on..

Or,, you can make a second install of SF-2 elsewhere and swap out the carrier folder from objects/ground objects if you have the room.

Yes uriahms, the problem is related with the .LOD files of the carrier. Please, post here the carrier files and I'll take a look at them.

If you own SF2 vietnam, you can use stock carrier instead, as a solution to the problem.

Ok, problem solved. Use this Data.ini instead of the Carrier's original Data.ini .

Solved partially. The landing deck is now hardened. However, when I try to taxi to the right to park, I fall off the edge as soon as I get off the angled landing deck. Also to be really picky, the area behind the arresting wires are also not hardened.

I really appreciate your help. Thank you very much.

Would it be too much trouble to ask you to take a quick minute to explain what you did? What was wrong with the original file? I am still in the dark to figure out what was wrong. Also how can I edit the cvn68_data.ini file to make the entire deck hardened. Thank you.

The problem was related with the collisionmesh statement , that you can find on the Data.ini of the carrier. For a reason that I don't know, the original collisionmesh of the carrier was not working, so , I changed it with the collisionmesh of the stock Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier.....

[Deck]
SystemType=FLIGHT_DECK
FlightDeckHeight=20.10
FlightDeckLength=396.0
FlightDeckWidth=84.0
LandDeckAngle=-10.0
LandingAimPoint=-0.35,-57.95
CollisionMesh=CV-63_deck.LOD   <<<<<<<<<-Here
ParkingChance=80
ParkingMaxSpan=12.0
Parking[01].Heading=270
Parking[01].Offset=27.77,79.19
Parking[02].Heading=270
Parking[02].Offset=27.77,67.58
Parking[03].Heading=270
Parking[03].Offset=27.77,50.94
Parking[04].Heading=270
Parking[04].Offset=27.77,33.68
Parking[05].Heading=270
Parking[05].Offset=27.77,22.07
Parking[06].Heading=329
Parking[06].Offset=7.82,62.03
Parking[07].Heading=350
Parking[07].Offset=15.73,6.12
Parking[08].Heading=270
Parking[08].Offset=29.62,-47.45
Parking[09].Heading=270
Parking[09].Offset=29.62,-59.06

And this is why you may have your problem partially solved, because the deck of a Kitty Hawk carrier is smaller than the deck of a Nimitz class carrier, so that's the reason why I guess you are still having troubles. So , my proposal is to change the collisionmesh of the Kitty Hawk by the collisionmesh of the stock Nimitz you'll find in SFNA.

That's all, and as you can see, it has nothing to do with installing or unistalling anything.

You are welcome!

Ummm...Still having a problem. Now I'm doing another ODS campaign and I have to land on the Roosevelt (CV71) Same problem has returned. I have tried all sorts of things. Nothing works. I have tried to understand your fix. I tried to replace the data ini with yours and rename but that doesn't work. I do not understand LOD files. the collisonmesh calls for CV-63_COL.LOD but this file does not seem to exist??? Also I do not understand why the Roosevelt is in both CV71 and CV-68.

At the end of the mission I simply land on the Saratoga instead of the Roosevelt. But I'd rather fix it. I hate broken things. Please help again to explain. Thanks for your patience.

Both Roosvelt and Nimitz are treated as separate objects. Why? Because the mod designer did it in that way. The solution to the problem in the case of the Roosvelt is the same as in the case of the Nimitz, you just have to add this line:

CollisionMesh=CV-63_deck.LOD

In the CVN71_Data.ini . The CV-63.LOD files exists if and only if you have SF2 vietnam.

      Note: I removed all the nation sounds from this Menu packs for size reasons. If you intend to install the "VIPER63A HQ Menu Sounds" pack, please install that pack first. Installing the HQ Sound pack over the Menu pack may overwrite some of the menu specific music files. You can always re-install this menu pack to get the menu specific theme music back.
      This mod includes custom "vietnam Era" themed menu screens, pilots and (w/ 60s) music. You should unzip this package and preview the new screens before installing them. I recommend doing this as there are MANY alternate screens I have in there that you might like better.
      1) Backup (copy) your FLIGHT, MENU and PILOTDATA folder. I "highly" recommend that you (if you can) "RENAME" your Menu folder and let this mod create a new Menu folder for you. If you had installed any other menu mods, that may conflict with this Menu mod.
      2) To install, simply unzip and copy the uncompressed FLIGHT, MENU and PILOTDATA folders to your StrikeFighter2 mod folder. Don't forget to back up before loading any mods!
      My StrikeFighter2 mod on Win10 64-bit was..(yours may be different)...
      C:\Users\<your_id>\Saved Games\Thirdwire\StrikeFighter2 Vietnam\
      3) To uninstall, delete the folders updated by this mod and copy (rename) your backed up folder to FLIGHT, MENU and PILOTDATA.
      Enjoy!

      I made these upgraded alternate "Korean Air War" themed Menu screens to go with Do335's "SF2 Wings Over Korea" package!

      I've seen some very nice screens in 1920x1080 mode, so I thought I'd give it try. So here is my "Top Gun" contribution! Special thanks to Homefies and Spectre8750 for their contributions that led me here...
      This mod includes custom "Top Gun" themed menu screens, pilots and music. I used the MENU INI files to reuse the music files for different menus. This reduces the size of the package as I don't have duplicates of the same music files for different menus. You should unzip the file and preview the new screens before installing them. I recommend doing this as there are MANY alternate screens I have in there that you might like better.
