Flying and fighting in the CH-46

Recommended Posts

A good buddy and ex-boss flew two tours in 'Nam, part of one was on the Chinook.  He said he once came back with Hmong arrows in the belly of his CH46!  Said his crew chief nearly wet himself from laughing.

I was assigned to HC-5 Det-4 off USNS Kilauea during the 1991 Gulf War and one of our two helos were involved in engaging and SAR'ing Iraqi soldiers who were in two patrol boats taken out by a Marine Cobra and one of our "Ma Deuce" belly gunners. You could tell our "Knights" were Vietnam birds by the patch work of bullet hole repairs done to each one.

The double whopper was a bad ass hauler.

Our little sibling! I'd have loved a chance to climb around a -46 and look for the similarities to a -47.

Snapped this picture of a Columbia Helicopters BV 107-II in Kandahar.
