Right, offsets require adjustments. Just rushed it a bit yesterday.. :biggrin:

You're not the only one ^^
Me, ...but some colleagues as well :haha:

A new temporary data.ini to reduce the pitch up tendency

Impala2_more_leveled.rar

- Flaps induce pitch down (very slight)
- XacMachTableData within the shape of the 3D model (same values, 20 cm further)
- Horizontal Stabs down force reduced (Cl0)

Still a temporary fix, barely tested.

Still too busy to do anything with this, maybe on the weekend. Some areas I was looking at that need edits were wing area, empty weight, and engine thrust. Not 100% sure which version of the Viper turbojet was used but anecdotal info indicates about 3500lbs ST or about 4000lbs ST, depending on source. More definitive info appreciated.

Regarding the pitch up tendency, sometimes I can fix that by editing the H-Stab CL0/CLA tables at the appropriate mach number but it's a hit or miss affair. Will definitely check out all the latest updates prior to proceeding.

Regarding the pitch up tendency

A simple swap of Cl0 / Cla (Wings / Outerwings / H-Stabs) values with the MachTableDatas borrowed from another plane fixes the problem.
Needs fine tuning then, but it saves a lot of time.
In fact, all the original values were just too strong.

And moving the horizontal stabs Xac values within the 3D model doesn't waste the whole FM, add -0.2 to each and there's no real difference. It saves a lot of time too.

I have read all the posts, and I have seen that they have reported the problem of lateral instability.
I also noticed that the right wing aileron does not work visually.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions, I'll wait for the definitive version to fix on my files =)

wingtip fueltank ID's, right tiptank is #3 , should be #2 same as left tiptank so that both are used simultaneously

FuelAmount values should be (according to the flight manual)

803.0 kg for both fuselage cells combined (data FuelTankID=1)

238.0 kg for each tiptank

more things to update, cannons shells ejection positions, delete internal ECM jammer, flare dispenser is in the wings, close to the gear covers, firing downwards (have pics somewhere..)

Delete the ChaffDispenser system from [Fuselage]

Add

[LeftWing]

...

SystemName[007]=LeftWingChaffDispenser

[RightWing]

...

SystemName[007]=RightWingChaffDispenser

and update

// Countermeasures ----------------------------------------------------

[LeftWingChaffDispenser]
SystemType=DECOY_DISPENSER
EjectPosition=-1.30,-1.0,-0.10
EjectVelocity=0.00,0.00,-10.00
NumChaff=0
NumFlare=16

[RightWingChaffDispenser]
SystemType=DECOY_DISPENSER
EjectPosition=1.30,-1.0,-0.10
EjectVelocity=0.00,0.00,-10.00
NumChaff=32
NumFlare=0

Loading both dispensers with 16x flares each is probably more accurate.. but adjust to own preference :)

Just a question : how do you know that the FuelTankID number gives a hierarchy between the tanks (in the game) ?

Re: FuelTankID

TK in TW forums, he has explained it many years ago

And re: C/F dispensers:

This modification came in 1987 or later.

Calls for a subvariant a la TW style,  e.g. ImpalaMkII_87

great work guys!

like it said in the read me, I did what I could to get it out to all of you, to make whatever adjustments are/were needed. However, it there's anything that can't be fixed by ini work (model flaws, incorrect animations), we're stuck with those!

All I ask is that when all is said and done, and you have a final version(s) you upload the changed items, and then I can update the entire package!

I like Otto's suggestion of the _87 model! Didn't think of that!

thanks again guys!! :drinks:

New loadout image ImpalaMkII_Loadout.zip

- change file extension to TGA in ImpalaMkII ini

- to make the pylons on the image line up with the station lines, change ReferenceSpan to 9.4 in data ini

Thats the actual size of the lod.. a bit short of the real size :blink:

So, what's the fix???

What I did just now, is move the 2 outer wing components BACK to the RightWing, and commented them out of the RightOuterWing. As both outer wing 'sections' exist only as data statements for the FM, perhaps the best fix is simply to move any components (yes, I know the left side works -this points me to a probably LOD issue) from the outer wings to the "main" wing sections (RightWing, LeftWing), leaving the outer wings as only FM statements?

Crusader, did you find an actual Mk-2 flight manual somewhere?  I found 1341lbs/608.27kg for the two fuselage cells on an Australian Mk-1. Maybe the Mk-2 got an extended tank with the removal of the back seat?

Never mind, your linked article explained it in the first paragraph! :oops:

Any update, people? There's so many fragmented updates by Cliff7600 and Crusader, in this thread. I wonder if someone properly updated the package. I had also remade the skins, available in the first page.

Yep. Real life but you can also add some really annoying pitch stability issues I was encountering plus other projects plus summertime.

Public beta test FM attached. Hopefully I can finish this thing in October. The pitch stability issues can still show up but I don't think it's any worse than ThirdWire's Vampire which has a similar issue. At certain speeds, if you give the stick a large displacement forward or back, the plane will just continue climbing or descending and not return to level flight on it's own. I spent a lot of time balancing the tail with the auto trim turned off [AutoTrimLimit=0.0] and noticed it doesn't exhibit the odd behavior with auto trim off.  At present I have the auto trim set to a minimal level of 0.15 but it's still enough to get the pitch instability at certain speeds. Anyway, the FM still needs some testing/improvements but will post it here for public testing: ImpalaMkII_DATA0.95.zip

NOTE: The Impala has surprisingly large weight ratings for the weapon pylons but in real life, anything over about 1600lbs of racks/weapons would have required a reduction in fuel to stay under the 12000lb MTOW.

Sily question - this new FM has all the tweaks showed above?

Possibly not. I think I added some of Cliffs gear tweaks but much, maybe most, is original. I did get a look at an Impala flight manual so adjusted the gear and flap speeds, empty weights, fuel capacities etc.  Also had a look at some performance charts to try and match sustained and instantaneous G but it still needs fine tuning.
