Crotale SAM system

    CROTALE mod by GKABS

    1) Historical background

   The Development of the Crotale Surface-to-Air Missile system began in 1964.

   The Crotale is a very short range SAM system (Sol-Air à Très Courte Portée or SATCP).

   It was said that South Africa paid 85% (France: 15%) of the first step development
   costs of this SAM System. The Crotale was named "Cactus" for South Africa.

   Thomson-CSF for the radar and the electronics, and Matra (Engine division) for the
   R440 missile were the two prime contractors.

   South Africa received the first systems in 1971.

   In 1971 France placed the first order for operational tests: 1 Acquisition Unit and
   2 Firing Units.
   The Armée de l'Air bought this SAM system in order to protect their airfields.

   The Crotale in this first opérational version (Crotale 1000) was above all engaged
   for the Egypt-Libya and Angola wars in the 1980s.

   Further developments were launched for several customers among the 15 ones which
   ordered this system.

    2) Installation in your Strike Fighters 2 installation(s)

   There are 2 options :

    - The "Sand" version in order to put in any "Desert" type SF2 install,
    - The "Green" version for any "European" type SF2 install.

   So you'll find them into 2 separated packs ready to play :)

Hi there. Great job pal ! But I have a question to fullfill the installation.

"Add To You RWR List" : where is this RWR List ans how should I do that ?

I suppose it's in order to have a RWR alert on my screen if I am about to be bitten by this snake ?

Thanks

Correct :wink:

You also have to edit the RWR.lst (use Notepad or whatever to open it) of the individual aircraft, such as this:

Crotale_G=RWR_440g.tga
Crotale_S=RWR_440s.tga

This file is generally in the Cockpit folder of the aircraft for you to add it to.

Ok thank you guys .

EricJ, you mean I have to do if for each individual aircraft, which is for me 421 for one install !! My goodness:stars:

I think I will choose the ones to be alerted...:biggrin:

Thanks again and Take care

Yes that's correct, Each aircraft that you have that has an RWR. Me I fly a small number so it makes it easier on me, but still that's a lot of copying and pasting.

not quite correct...

only those aircraft with the TEWS type of RWR need to have their RWR list edited. All other types (3 ring and vector) do not require that, as they don't use specific symbology for their displays.

irrc, the edited ini goes in the aircraft's MAIN folder (ie: Aircfaft/F-16A)

Hi there, it's me again

I am definitelly not an expert in modding, but usally that kind of mod comes with some lines to be added to the "Types.INI"

that kind of lines :

[TargetTypeXXX] <-------- Change to the next number at the bottom of you types list
Name=CROTALE

...

Just like in your FlagPanzer Gepard...(still not tried but I will !)

How come that there are none here ?

Thanks

don't bother adding them to terrains, just let the game engine populate them itself. If you place a SAM, ERW or SAM Radar DIRECTLY CALLED OUT BY NAME on a terrain, it goes into "stealth mode". It will never show on your RWR. (yet another fuck up created by one the later patches)

Just let the game generate them in already specificed generic listings. (ie: "SAMLauncher", or "AAA").

Seriously, don't mess with terrain editing.

Thanks for the lesson Wrench :smile:

Can you just follow up and explain me why, with some of that kind of mod, we are asked to do that edditing TYPE.INI ?

If I understood you correctly, even in that case, I don't have to do it ?

Thanks gain

Target[136].Heading=90
Target[137].Type=UnimogBW
Target[137].Offset=-255,40
Target[137].Heading=0

these are what is meant by generic tags. the game, based upon year dates, user lists and availability, will populate the region with (approximately) appropriate units.

That's pretty much all there is to know!!  :)
