Hello, good evening people.

I was back at playing the game after a while and it keeps crashing on me, especially during the campaign.

I'm not sure what causes it, but it happens always after i order my wingmen to attack something (my target or not), seemingly happening after they lock onto something.

I'm currently patching the game through all the official patches (Merged, June 2012 as of now - but going through July 2013 as i'm writing this)

I'll keep updating this topic as i go on, but if there is no way fixing it by patching, is there something i can do (compat mode, messing around with .cfg, whatever) to correct it?

You need to specify, are you playing with the base stock game, or are you using mods?

This is a common bug when you fly heavy bomber aircraft, but the stock game does not allow to fly with those. So either you are using a mod, or the patching goes wrong and the issue exists with flyable fighter jets. Can't you download the latest installers from ThirdWire's store?

i have patched the game through the latest one, for some reason it still crashed. Another thing to note is that it happens mostly on the Desert (aka OG SF2 map) while other maps/executables such as SF2E or SF2I it doesn't happen, at least not as regularly

Update: Seems like what is causing the game issue is, whenever i ask my wingman to fire at an air target using specifically the AIM-7D Sparrow (fresh install again, btw) the game goes bananas and it crashes me to desktop

delete everything in the mods folder or just rename it. run the exes again, to rebuild new one. DO NOT ADD ANY MODS.  Restart the game, play as normal. See if the issue returns. If it does, then there's something majorly screwed in your game installs (the exes), which there is no repairing of.

If it returns to normal, then it 's something you added. That's all we can do, as you've really not stated the issue clearly. Terrains (should) have nothing to do orders to AI wingmates.

Yeah, i'm not quite sure what is doing that as i tried to run the .exes unmodded and it gave me the same results.

Anyways, thanks boys!

It happened to me, too when I was adding cockpit to fly a stock plane which was meant for A.I. only. The solution it worked was to change its AIRCRAFTROLE= in plane's dataini file, from BOMBER to ATTACK. Do that and your troubles will end. But all these works ONLY if your installation is flawless, of course. If you installation is screwed, you have to do as Wrench instructed.
