Searching for MIG-17 /19 /21 wing vortex pictures / videos

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am working on Strike Fighter 2 (simulation) big mod project. I am still looking for excellent pictures and videos of MiG-17, 19, and 21 wing vortex when performing hard-turning.  As always, when it is difficult for me to find a clear picture or videos of specific aircraft situation, the request is posted here.

If anyone has better pictures or videos, please share them here.  As always, thank you, everyone for the support.

Cheers

Ravenclaw_007, I am very glad to see you here.  I am honored to get the reply from you!  The codes you provided here are much appreciated too.

My current new 3D volume effect experimental for F-4 is actually directly based on your F-4 codes.  Your name and the link to your mod is added to the credit page.  When I studied your codes, I was figuring out how to convert it from 2D to 3D.  It was done successfully.  You can follow my progress in this link:

https://combatace.com/forums/topic/97359-my-first-attempt-to-overhaul-aircraft-entirely-visual-effects/

The reason why I ask about wing vortex is that I made two version and is uncertain which one is more realistic.  Here are screenshot:

i think it is a matter of taste , i always had the feeling that my original version is not real enough and i did not like the look of the emitters they are to pointed for my taste i like to have a more closed front but i could not find a way to do it except of adding a lot more vortex emitters ( what i maybe going to do )

check this picture , i think your version 1 is more like it , but the emitter must move more forward and has to be a bit longer ( my opinion )

Perfect!  I am up for the challenge!  I can try to do this one.

Thank you for excellent picture, this is what I needed.  I will come back with an improved wing vortex.

Cheers

Improvement so far.  Right now I am working on giving them a variety of sizes by adjusting this code:

Thank you for the screenshots of both F-4s wing vortex and UK F-4s RR Spey afterburner!

This confirms it.  The big difference between US F-4s (J79) and UK F-4s (Spey) are the afterburner color and the way it looks. RR Spey afterburner look more smooth while the color is more whitish.  I am going to work on new afterburner effects for UK F-4Ks and Ms.

Cheers

overall, welcome to a truth of good SF2 modding: its about 75% hunting for pics and information, 15% setting things up/figuring things out to make the mod and about 10% actually making a mod

plus or minus about 50% cussing when it doesnt work/when it does work

That is very true.  I am surprised how it is difficult to find certain materials for the specific aircraft.  For example, I am looking for the information about A-1H and J landing lights or the pictures/videos of A-1 taxing, takeoff, or landing at night.

This will give me an opportunity to learn the tricks of hunting pictures and videos.

That IS a difficult one. I have rolled through lots of videos & photos, but none seem to show the plane with the lights on. Yet, it does have them. (Item #162 on the cutaway)

Thank you for this picture!  It is also an excellent picture for the collection too!

I see now, I am going to adjust the landing light location to next to where the cannons are (For SF2 modding).

Cheers!

all depends on your area of interest

i like from just after Vietnam through Kosovo timefram. for the 70s and 80s stuff its often better to get books from the 80s. not as super informative as current books (capt x took airframe y on route z) but its the start of high quality pics mixed with the subjects being then fairly current.

check some of the skins/decal sets or look for data inis. I've corrected all the lilghts on Skyraiders yearssssssssssssssssssss ago.

Even moved the pilot's hit box from 6 feet in front of the engine, to where it belongs.

I see, I wasn't aware of that.  Thank you for informing me. I will look into your A-1 skins and mods.

Cheers!
