STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
FastCargo replied to Crusader's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Like this. Hey, now this IS interesting. Would fix the Skyray right off the bat. Also, would make the new version of the Tomcats easier to skin with custom tanks. FC -

@ CA_Stary.....
FastCargo replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wait...me? I didn't know anything about that...you sure it wasn't someone else? Now I just have to integrate all of CA_Stary's mods for the GermanyCE terrain for all seasons...and all the other mods... Darn it...just when I was starting the Growl...oops. FC -
SF Service Pack v05.15.06
FastCargo replied to jayo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Okay folks, what the hell, over? Listen up. Not everyone's Google-fu is as good as yours might be. On the other hand, usually it takes more than one iteration of a search to find exactly what it is you are looking for. And the ThirdWire site isn't a complete archive of older stuff...older patches aren't always available. 3 days until Christmas and this is the kind of crap I'm seeing here? The question was asked and finally answered. This thread is closed. FC -

Well, to be completely honest, we all have our things that we may be particular (some would say anal) about. I guarantee if someone puts out certain aircraft that I know a lot about, I'll probably be very critical of it (not in a bad way of course...I know the pains of modeling). Other aircraft, I couldn't care. Even within those certain aircraft, I'd let things go because I know the difference in simulation verses reality and that the effort to get that last 1% isn't worth the additional 99% of work. The trick is conveying critques without making oneself obnoxious...or, how to be anal without becoming an ass. This critique isn't aimed at anyone who's recently posted, just a general observation. Gundam is well known here in the US among anime fans. Go to any scifi, comic or gaming convention, or any comic book store, or most video stores. Not very effective 'protectionism' I guess. FC

Seasoned WOE GermanyCE

I actually on a lark played around with this variable some time ago. What I found is that the air remains at the same standard pressure, and that the AI has some difficulty once you start messing with the GC of the sim 'universe'. Because all the airfoils have the same forces acting upon them, the AI was flying as if the GC was Earth standard. Which typically manifested in getting too 'high' on manuvers and not ever being able to get 'down' if the GC was lowered to about lunar level because the AI wouldn't aim 'low' enough. It's too bad...the idea of a Mars or open space combatsim (the aircraft using RCS jets) could actually be supported by the sim engine (make all your aircraft have no aerodynamic properties). The problem is that the AI wouldn't take advantage of it, and the controls don't exist for 'translation' in all 3 axis. But back to the matter at hand...another nice release CA_Stary! FC -
No kidding Chinese is tough. My wife is ethnic Chinese but born and raised in Canada (first generation Canadian)...speaks the King's English (all those extra vowels). She's tried to teach me Cantonese...and I'm not strong in languages to begin with. The thing I've noticed about most asian languages (being half Korean myself and unable to learn the language) is that tone, stress and duration are VERY important. In English, you can say a word with a totally wrong stress, tone and duration, and it's recognizable. However, just changing one part of stress, duration, or tone in an asian language can totally change the meaning of the word. Makes it very hard to learn without lots of practice unless you've been immersed from the beginning or have a natural aptitude for that sort of thing. FC

F-16D Blk 40?
FastCargo replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sort of. There's a Block 10 2 seater in ED colors. However, it's basically the same LOD file without the spine. FC -
Yep, have been in the PDS mod part for a long time. Did a little of the BSG thing too...but obviously unfinished at the last time I checked. FC

Yep...at a military academy no less. I took it because I was interested and I thought it would be useful. I'm not understanding why you be surprised that a country would allow learning other languages. There's courses in Chinese, Farsi, etc. FC

I actually took a year's worth of Russian back in my college days... Forgotten just about all of it though. FC

Actually, depending, we could have landed on Mars back in the mid 1980s using evolved Saturn 5 technology. For interesting reading, read Voyage by Stephen Baxter. He's a math and engineering major turned science fiction author. His novel deals with an alternate history where we reach Mars in the Reagan era in an Apollo type program and using technology not much more advanced than the Saturn 5. However, several things were sacrificed...Apollo missions were stopped after Apollo 14, other unmanned probes put on hold and most interestingly, the Space Shuttle was never developed. FC

Seasoned WOE GermanyCE
FastCargo replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I don't know if I like the 'runway on fields' look...I find most military airfields tend to look closer to what the stock game looks like (cleared out fields). Otherwise though, it looks spectacular! FC -
So anyone use this menu? http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=2853 Have you been bummed because the Campaign screen doesn't look right? Or that you can't see your medals now that the medals feature works? Worry no more! The slight distortion is caused by the fact that they were made for a 1024x768 screen and are projected on a widescreen monitor. Just a minor bug with the 'Delete pilot' function and it'll be ready to go after I get permission from kout. FC

We are NOT going there folks. I see very quickly where this thread is heading. For those who haven't figured it out yet, politics and military affairs (even equipment sales) are VERY intertwined and the line is VERY fuzzy. Tread lightly. FC

some info for a new guy
FastCargo replied to Badger Lead's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, probably start with Strike Fighters Gold (SFG) from the ThirdWire website. It's only 10 bucks and can be patched (if it isn't already) to the level all the other games in the series are patched to. And/or check the Goodwill or Salvation Army stores around the area...I picked up SFG for 99 cents that way. Anyway, try it out, add some mods, and if you don't like it, the worse case is you're out 10 bucks...hell, you'll blow that much seeing one of those overpriced Hollyweird flicks and get far less entertainment out of it. F-5F/Sagheah
FastCargo replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Looks nice! For those who don't know, any skins for the Sagheah should be able to be mapped onto the F-5F with minimal adjustments. Eric, I'm going to have to hold off on decals for the moment...I've got recurrent training due in a few days and then home with the family for a week. If anyone would like to take that on (decals), please let me know. And you're going to have to start showing screenshots from the back seat...show folks what they're up against if trying to instruct the student how to bomb from back there... Welcome to my world: FC -
some info for a new guy
FastCargo replied to Badger Lead's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Your ram might be the limiting factor here. I've had the ThirdWire series run just fine on a laptop with lower specs...you just have to turn down the eye candy a bit. In a lot of ways, the ThirdWire series is considered the spiritial successor to Jane's Fighters Anthology. The main differences would include that the ThirdWire series doesn't come with a lot of aircraft out of the box, but that is filled by 3rd party aircraft that are available for free, and that the available mission editors for the ThirdWire series pale to what was available in Fighters Anthology. However, the spirit is there in terms of the sim being very accessible, and having a large community of players. FC
