  1. SF2 MiG-23MF fighter- Cockpit, working Mig-23MF HUD, and aircraft

Included is the fully working MiG-23MF 'Flogger-B', cockpit and working Mig-23MF HUD cockpit converted to SFP2.

This MiG-23MF swing wing fighter saw much combat and claimed multiple kills over the years. The Mig-23/Mig-27 was the most important Soviet fighter type from the mid-to-late 1970s. It was designed to replace the famous MiG-21.

The MiG-23MF was a first generation MiG-23 and was not designed for close-in maneuvering. This would come with the later second generation MiG-23ML ("L"  for lightweight).  However, the MiG-23MF was still formidable if used as a hit and run fighter.

Short takeoff and landing was a major consideration in the case of a NATO vs WARSAW Pact confrontation. Also, the Mig-23 was designed to be able to be able to accept or decline combat against western fighters using hit and run tactics- maneuverability being a secondary consideration. As a result, it was designed to be faster in speed, faster accelerating and faster climbing than most western fighters...in which it mostly suceeded. It was much faster climbing than the F-4 Phantom with a reported initial climb rate of 45,000+ feet per minute.

However, it reportedly had an even higher wing loading than the Phantom of about 94/lbs per sq feet at normal takeoff weight and normal wing sweep. One of the contributing results was reportedly a very poor instantaneous turn rate of 11.5 degrees per second at Mach .9 at 15,093 feet and 8.6 degrees per second at Mach .5 at 15,093 feet (Mike Spick-Illustrated Directory of Fighters). The Mig-21 reportedly had a much better maximum instantaneous turn rate of around 18.9 deg/sec. in some configurations. Although a lot of factors are involved in instantaneous turn rates, it does give a general idea.

It equipped more Soviet fighter and attack regiments than any other Soviet fighter then in service in the 1970s. Over a thousand were estimated to be confronting NATO from both Soviet and WARSAW Pact nations.

This is from the original Mirage Factory (although it has been modified by so many people over the years that it is basically a new aircraft).

This Mig-23MF was a major production model after 1978. It could fire beyond visual range (BVR) missiles even for foreign countries and had a standard internal 23mm gun. Its radar was thought to be broadly comparable to the McDonnell Douglas F4J Phantoms' radar...formidable indeed.

Mig-23s emerged victorious against maneuvering Western-trained Mirage F-1s over Africa on 27 September 1987, so the Mig-23's weapons systems could be effective.

You can download the original Mirage Factory Mig-23 SFP1 package here:
    http://forum.combata...p;showfile=5211

The Mig-23MF was the first major production version and also used largely for export. It saw combat in the Middle East with Syria and reportedly had some F-4 and F-16 kills.

It was a much improved export version after the previous MS version. The Warsaw pact, India, Lybia, Syria, Egypt, Cuba and others used the MF version. It fired radar-guided missiles and so was a BVR threat with its AA-7 Apex missiles.

    Pilot report http://www.warbirdso...87/Default.aspx

This was so complicated to make work in SFP2, that I had to end up just making it one complete download. If it wasn't loading or blowing up on the runway, then the HUD was not visible, the pilot was out of his seat, the plane was invisible, or the cockpit was invisible, pieces were flying permanently along side you in flight blocking your view, you were flying sideways, and you could not pick weapons. It took pieces from endless airplanes and projects to finally make it work including parts from SFP2.

To my surprise, -the jewel-, the extremely complex Mig-23MF working HUD from Starfighter in SFP1 actually started working!

    Directions:

    1) Back up your Mig-23MF folder.

    2) Just download the whole filefolder Mig-23MF intact into your SFP2 aircraft folder as one folder....ie into the C:\mydocuments\thirdwire\SFP2\objects\aircraft

    3) When asked to overwrite say yes.

    -Finished!

    MiG-23M 'Flogger-B' First production fighter
MiG-23MF 'Flogger-B' Improved MiG-23M with a new radar and an infrared sensor pod, major production model after 1978

For strengths, it had incredible acceleration that reportedly equalled the later F-16 and F-15s. It also had an incredible climb rate and almost unmatched speed at low altitudes.

For weaknesses, it had a terribly slow turn, slow rate of roll and high angle of attack limitations and vicious stall characteristics in certain situations. Better keep it fast.

Good tactics in the MF are to sneak in fast at a low altitude, shoot and then run or use your fantastic rate of climb and acceleration in a vertical fight.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FLIGHT NOTES FROM A MiG-23 PILOT: The Mig-23 had incredible strengths and incredible weaknesses.

WEAKNESSES: For weaknesses, most Mig-23s never could turn or roll very well compared to its enemies and had very heavy controls. Its roll was hurt by its control system (spoilers and a diferential tail and the disconnection of spoilers at any but 16 degrees).

In close combat, the earlier versions in particular were a deathtrap because unless the pilot stayed within certain tight maneuvering limits, it would often lose control and simply crash. Its cockpit visiblility was one of the worst of any fighter. Visibility is life in a dogfight.

It had slushy controls in many areas of its flight regime and its nose would often hunt back and forth. Its unpredictable accelerated stall was often taking ones life into ones hands if attempted. It also had the typical Soviet disadvantage of a very short range. There are reports of its radar not working much of the time and it often not being mission ready.

It is hard to use an aircraft if it is not working.

It is true that later versions had much improved handling/systems. However, I understand that maneuvering limits still existed.

  2. Vampire cockpit -single-engine Egyptian-modified (combat veteran)

This is a single-engine Egyptian-Modified Vampire jet cockpit for SFP2 with single engine gages based on the Thirdwire Meteor cockpit. You need SFP2 Israel and expansion pack.

It is a combat veteran and fought air to air combat against Israeli Meteors, Dassault Ouragans, Mystere IVAs and later against Pakistani F-86 Sabres according to sources.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It has gages moved, and BMP gages and bitmaps added from multiple Vampire color cockpit photos and the DH Vampire cockpit manual.

By 11:00hrs also four Vampires strafed the Israeli column near al-Thamed, causing even more damage. They were followed by more Vampires and also Meteors of the 5 Sqn EAF, all of which were escorted by the MiG-15 and hit the Israelis very hard.

    INDO-PAKASTANI War

On September 1, 1965, during the Indo-Pakistani War, IAF Vampires saw action for the first time with India. No. 45 Squadron responded to a request for strikes against a counter-attack by the Pakistani Army (Operation Grand Slam) and four Vampire Mk 52 fighter-bombers were successful in slowing the Pakistani advance.

However, the Vampires encountered two Pakistan Air Force (PAF) F-86 Sabres, armed with air to air missiles; in the ensuing dogfight, the outdated Vampires were outclassed. One was shot down by ground fire and another three were shot down by Sabres.[17] The Vampires were withdrawn from front line service after these losses.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    FIGHTING IN THE VAMPIRE:

The Vampire had a lower wing loading than the Meteor and therefore should be able to out turn the Meteor in a turning fight all other things being equal. The Meteor being much faster, faster climbing and more powerful will dominate a vertical fight.

    1. Keep fast against enemy prop fighters...you are faster than them, but you lose energy fast and can't regain it easily.

    2. Try to out turn enemy jets...you usually have a lower wingloading. The enemy Meteor is much more powerful than you, much faster than you, has a much higher climb rate then you and he can dominate a vertical fight.

The Vampire reportedly had beautiful handling qualities but was extremely underpowered.

  3. Mig Killer SAAF Mirage F1CZ (SAAF Modified) SFP1

Mig Killer SAAF Mirage F1CZ Fighter (SAAF Modified)

    DESCRIPTION:

This download includes a complete SAAF Mirage F1CZ aircraft based on the

Mirage Factory's stunning Mirage F1.- including the aircraft:
    1. SAAF Bush war weapons,
    2. Bush war sand/green skin camo skin of Mig killer No. 213 Rankin,
    3. Nigel's later Bush war grey ghost skin,
    4. SAAF two external tank skins of sand/green camo skin and aluminum

    5. A dedicated Mirage F1CZ cockpit (the F1AZ and F1CZ have radically

different cockpits befitting their dedicated roles and from reality).

It has been continually modified over time as newer equipment came in

and older equipment broke down and needed to be replaced.

This was the SAAF's major air superiority fighter in the Angolan Bush

War ("border war") in the mid 1980s against Mig-21s and Mig-23s.

The SAAF Mirage F1CZs are credited with at least two Migs (but up to

12 possible). Rumors persist of other air-air victories much deeper

into the politically sensive Angolan territory.

    INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:

Update to the latest version of WOE...or just download a new WOE

version and update it to the newest version.

Make sure you have the weapons pack 2.52 named 2%2e52 (or equivalent)

    located at http://combatace.com/files/file/7791-weapons-pack-252-by

-the-wosfp1-community/ (This is for many SAAF weapons).

To download this weapons pack, make a folder named "weapons" in

SPF1/Objects/ and add the contents of the Weapons Pack 2.52 to it (you

don't need to do anything else for the new weapons to work).

    1) Copy and paste the RP35 and RP35a SAAF camo and aluminum external

fuel tank skins (which is in the folders) into the

    SFP1/Objects/Weapons folder...overwrite when asked...you can always go

back to the original Pave Penny Pod color by using the original "HTS

PODS" folder included in this folder.

    2) Copy the contents of the weapons.ini file in this folder and paste

(many were indigenously made in South Africa) in sequential order at

the end of your weapons.ini in SFP1/objects/weapons.

    3) Replace each XXXX with the next number sequentially. IE. if the

last number in your weapons.ini before adding the below weapons was

[WeaponData1652] then make the next number [WeaponData1653].

    4) With the weapons editor open up the weapons.ini and open the last

weapon and save. (The weapons editor is located at Thirdwire at
http:www.thirdwire.com/downloads_tools.htm. You probably need the one

made after 2008 version if you have fully updated your sim.

    5) Copy and paste the included whole SAAF Mirage F1CZ folder into your

SFP1/objects/aircraft folder. It should work in all versions of SFP1

such as Wings Over Vietnam, etc.

Tested in WOE (but it may work in other versions as well).

  5. Mig-23MF cockpit-combat export veteran with BVR capabilities and working Mig-23MF HUD (Saw much combat and claimed kills)V 1.3

This is the SFP1 series cockpit (version 1.4) for the Mig-23MF of the Mirage factory which could fire beyond visual range missiles even for foreign countries. Download the Mirage Factory Mig-23 package here:
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5211

Mig-23MF cockpit additions made by Richard "Pitts2A" Ordway, Starfighter2, lindr2. Thanks to Armour Dave and Sal for the cockpit

The Mig-23MF version saw combat in the Middle East with Syria and reportedly had some F-4 and F-16 kills. It was a much improved export version after the previous MS version.
The Warsaw pact, India, Syria, Egypt, Cuba and others used the MF version.

Added are features to make it more "developing worldish" including labeling tape, lots of dust and simplified features. It fired radar-guided missiles and so was a BVR threat with its AA-7 Apex missiles.

The Mig-23 was the most important Soviet fighter type from the mid-to-late 1970s

    pilot report http://www.warbirdsofdelaware.com/Airplane...87/Default.aspx

    Directions:

    1) Back up your Mig-23MF folder (if present).

    2) Download the Mirage Factory basic Mig-23s at the combatace address listed above starting with http://www.combatace.com/indexpht etc, etc above.

    3) Just download the whole filefolder Mig-23MF intact into your aircraft folder as one folder.

    4) When asked to overwrite say yes.

    -Finished!

    5) OPTIONAL: Add Nele's accurate Mig-23MF flight model (data.ini) which is in the NeilFlightModel folder called MiG-23MF_data.ini.

Just pop it in and overwrite when asked...back it

    up as always.
V1.3- I added knobs under the warning panels, added Neles avionics.ini and gave the option for Nele's accurate Mig-23MF flight model.

MARCH 2011- Version 1.4. I revised and added some files to hopefully fix some problems some gamers were reporting.

  6. MiG-27K Cockpit with complex working HUD- Ultimate ground attack fighter version of the MiG-27 series

Mig-27K (Flogger-J2) ground attack fighter cockpit (SFP1 series) made by Ordway, Starfighter2, lindr2 based on color cockpit photos and cockpit diagrams.

Original cockpit made by Armourdave and Sal.
Avionics and optional advanced flight model by Nele.

You need avionics 70 and the latest patch updates from Thirdwire. Tested on Windows XP and not Vista. However it might work on Vista too.

This is the cockpit for the ultimate Soviet MIG-27K ground attack fighter in 1980. It was the ultimate MiG-27 version.

It has a different cockpit from all the rest of the MiG-27s with more complexity and by far the most complex HUD. The MiG-27K added a laser designator and compatibility with TV-guided electro-optical weapons. Around 200 were built.

It would probably have been one of the first attackers against NATO in a NATO versus Soviet block confrontation in the 1980s (under the tense relations of the American administration of "Ronney-the-Ray Gun". It is referenced from color photographs and original cockpit diagrams.

The real TV screen will appear as usual, in the upper right hand corner when using many guided bombs/missiles. No one I knew could figure out how to make it work on the instrument panel in the correct area....

    MiG-27K History:

Initial flight of the ultimate MiG-27K prototype was in December 1974. It was finally accepted into service in 1980. Its avionics were so state-of-the-art (for the Soviets), that it took quite a while to work out all the bugs and make it operational.

The MiG 27, had superb low altitude, high speed capabilities and could out run many other fighters.

The MiG-27K could carry all the "smart" munitions including the KAB-500L LGB.

The 3D F-100D base cockpit is NOT included! If you have any previous merged SFP2 installs,
you can just add the contents of this download to the Super Mystere folder and it should work.

If you have only the SFP2 Israel alone, then you need to extract the F-100 contents and add it to the

    HISTORY:

The Dassault SMB2 Super Mystere was the
basic equivalent of the North American F-100
Super Sabre except smaller and much less powerful. It saw much air-air combat and gave
    stellar value to Israel.

Over Saykal, the Israeli Super Mysteres
encountered a pair of Syrian MiG-21s and
although outclassed by the MiGs, shot both of
    them down.

By the end of the first day of 1967 Six Days War
hositilities, Super Mysteres had destroyed 5
    aircraft in the air.

In 1975, Israel sold 12 complete airframes and 6

Tactics: The Super Mystere has almost the same
    thrust/weight t/w ratio as the F-100. It has a
noticeably lower wing loading than the F-100 so
can out turn it all other things being equal. It can't
climb as fast as the F-100-(Mike Spick, Illustrated
Directory of Fighters). Against the Mig-19 and
Mig-21 and MiG 23, try to out turn them.
Against the Vampire, Meteor, Mig-15, Mig-17 try
to do vertical yo yos while turning.

  8. MiG-27M cockpit- Soviet leading ground attack fighter to attack in a NATO/Warsaw pact 1970s confrontation-Simplified from the "K" model, with BMP TV screen.

Mig-27M cockpit (SFP1 series) made by Ordway, Starfighter2, lindr2 based on color cockpit photos and cockpit diagrams.

Original cockpit made by Armourdave and Sal.
Avionics and optional advanced flight model by Nele.

You need avionics 70 and the latest patch updates from Thirdwire. Tested on Windows XP and not Vista. However it might work on Vista too.

This is the cockpit for the Soviet MIG-27M ground attack fighter which would probably have been one of the first attackers against NATO in a NATO versus Soviet block confrontation in the 1970s and 1980s. It is referenced from color photographs and original cockpit diagrams.

The BMP TV screen is just there for looks. The real TV screen will appear as usual, in the upper right hand corner when using many guided bombs/missiles. No one I knew could figure out how to make it work on the instrument panel in the correct area.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    MiG-27M History:

The MiG 27, had superb low altitude, high speed capabilities and could out run many other fighters.

Concerns over the complexity (and unreliability) of the very advanced MiG-27K ground attack fighter led to the development of a simpler variant, the "MiG-27M". It retained much of the MiG-27K's electronics including a jammer, but featured a cheaper and less sophisticated nav-attack suite. The MiG-27M could carry all the "smart" munitions carried by the MiG-27K except for the KAB-500L LGB. The MiG-27M was externally very hard to tell from a MiG-27K.

Initial flight of the first MiG-27M, a converted MiG-27, was in April 1976, and the type went into production in 1978 in Siberia . 162 Soviet-built MiG-27Ms were delivered into 1982.

However, from 1982, the decision was made to upgrade most of the older MiG-27 fleet to MiG-27M standards and this of course evemntually added hugely to the over all total number of MiG-27Ms.

The MiG-27M was license-built by one user, the Indian Air Force (IAF) starting in the mid-1980s, with the first HAL machine, assembled from a kit performing its initial flight on 11 January 1986. A total of 165 HAL MiG-27Ms -- sometimes referred to with the designation of "MiG-27ML

  9. MiG-27( MiG-23BM) and separate MiG-27D dedicated ground attack variant cockpits (First production versions) and leading attacker in a Warsaw Pact Nato central front confrontation

This is both the MiG-27(MiG-23BM) and MiG-27D dedicated ground attack fighter/bomber variant cockpits for SFP1 series Lindr2's MiG-27 FloggerD and MiG-27D available below:

    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6576

It is based on the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 fighter aircraft, but optimized for the air-to-ground role. Additional cockpit armor was installed, along with a totally new nav-attack system. The MiG-27 was first operational in 1973. However unlike the MiG-23, the MiG-27 did not see widespread use outside the Soviet Union, as most other countries opted for the MiG-23BN ground attack fighter. It would have been one of the leading WARSAW Pact elements of a NATO central front attack.

    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6576

It has an extremely different gunsight (and no radar) and different panel compared to the Mig-23 fighter series.

This was the first MiG-27 version.

I had quite a hard time getting the plain MiG-27 working, so now both should work.

They both have different loadout capabilties and operational time frames from one another. They also have different equipment from one another as they were basically the same except that the MiG-27D was more optimized for nuclear strike and had more panels for that. The Mig-27D was also apparently kept on nuclear alert much like the US used the F-111.

    Directions:

    1) Download Lindr2's MiG-27 series at
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6576

    2) Back it up just in case.

    3) Just download the contents of both filefolders MiG-27 and MiG-27D intact into your aircraft folder.

    4) When asked to overwrite say yes.

    -Finished!

    4) OPTIONAL: Add Nele's alternate advanced MiG-27 flight model/ECM (data.ini) which is in the NeilFlightModel folder called MiG-27_data.ini. Just pop it in and overwrite when asked...back it up as always.

The original flight model is also included in the Nele folder titled "original" in case you want to go back to the original flight model and data file.

I personally strongly recommend it for getting an accurate feel of the Mig-27 according to the published reports I have researched...but it is not for beginners.

Thanks to Lindr2 for all his sustained hard, dedicated and excellent work!

Thanks to Armourdave and Sal for the original cockpit. Thanks to Lindr2 and Epizikl for help with the cockpit research and photos.

  11. Mig-23UB cockpit tandem seat trainer/fighter with working UB HUD

This is the Mig-23UB two seat trainer/fighter cockpit for Lindr2's masterful Mig-23UB.

The Mig-23UB was the Mig-23M's two-seat trainer. Production began in 1970 with about 1000 airframes. It has the Mig-23M HUD from Starfighter 2 and Lindr2, but has no radar as it apparently seemed too problematic to maintain in real life.

It was used for training and was heavily exported as some countries lost almost one fourth of their entire Mig-23 fleet to accidents. It had a backup fighter role...but without radar, it was limited.

It apparently kept the ASP-23D sight, the Kh-23 Delta-NM missile guiding equipment, the camera, and the R-3S and R-13M missiles for a limited anti-air capability.

It added, an AOA limiter and angle of attack indicator, the Poliot-1I-23 flight/navigation system with the SAU-23UB autopilot , a better failure warning system and a rear cockpit periscope were installed

Thanks to Nele for the optional alternate detailed UB flight model.

So the Mig-23UB usually had *no radar* on most airframes (some units might have retained radar).

It has a map, pencil and stopwatch for those precision approaches.

Oh...and why is 310 K/Hr plastered all over the cockpit- Read on!

From flying a two seat Mig-23: "Then we retracted flaps to take off position as he let me do the take off and fly around the pattern again. From the back on final all the instructor kept saying was 310 kilometers airspeed over and over."

    http://www.warbirdsofdelaware.com/Airplane...87/Default.aspx

    Directions:

    1) Back up your Lindr2 Mig-23UB folder or download it first from:

    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=9712.

    2) Just download the whole filefolder Mig-23UB intact into your aircraft folder as one folder.

  12. MIG-23MS Cockpit- export combat veteran version- Tangled with USN F-14s Version V.1.3 (Also version used by USAF Constant Peg aggressor program in USA).

This is the SFP1 series cockpit (version 1.0) for the first export version Mig-23, the Mig-23MS of the Mirage factory. Download the Mirage Factory Mig-23 package here:

    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...le=5211Mig-23MS cockpit almost ready.

This is the Mig-23MS cockpit in a light blue Russian color (from photos) and modded to the Mig-23MS standard from Armourdave and Sal's Mig-23 grey-colored cockpit. I believe that Mago & Badger 343rd did the orginal cockpit.

    Changes:

I repainted it in a light Russian blue (from color photos) and added (and took away) some details, placards, added new switches and instruments and panels from color photos and Mig-23 cockpit diagrams of the Mig-23Ss. I deleted the radar warning reciever and eliminated the pitot tube.

The Mig-23 series was the USSR's "most capable tactical fighter during the height of the cold war" according to a Jane's recognition guide.*

The Mig-23MS export version saw heavy Arab-Israeli combat in the middle east and had combat with USN F-14s near Libya. It was a downgraded Mig-23 S/M export version with a Mig-21 RP-22SM 'Jay Bird' radar in a smaller radome, and the IRST was removed. It reportedly had a radar scope on the dash like the Mig-21 series. This variant had no BVR capability.

It was extremely fast at low level, had outstanding acceleration and a superb climb rate. However, it maneuvered like a truck (including roll). It reportedly shot down some Israeli F-4s and perhaps an Israeli F-16 according to some Russian and some other sources.

    http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_273.shtml

I find in the SFP1 series that if I attack enemy aircraft at max speed at extremely low level, that I can pop up and even kill an occasional F-16 and escape.

    Directions:

    1) Back up your Mig-23M folder .

    2) Now secondly download this other additional Mig-23 package from the Mirage Factory and install it (the Mig-23MS will not work without it):
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5211

    2) Just put this whole filefolder Mig-23MS contents into the Mig-23MS aircraft folder .

    3) When asked to overwrite say yes.

    Finished!

    4) OPTIONAL: Add Nele's advanced Mig-23MS flight model...not for beginners. Just take the Mig-23MS_data.ini from the included Nele folder and drop it into the Mig-23MS folder. Say yes when asked to overwrite.

To go back to the easy original flight model just use the Mig-23MS_data.ini from the included original folder and drop it into the Mig-23MS folder. Say yes when asked to overwrite.

    Enjoy!

Thanks to Mago & Badger 343rd for the original Mig-21 cockpit.

Thanks to Armourdave and Sal for the idea and modifying the Mago/Badger Mig-21 cockpit for original Mig-23 use so I could modify it further into Mig-23MS standards. Thanks to Nele for the optional advanced flight model.

V.1.2- I added buttons under the warning light panels as per photos and from experience on
    the Mig-27 cockpits.

V.1.3- I made a panel wider and more visible. I added on a Hobbs-type meter.

  13. Mig23-P cockpit-Air Defense version- PVO Strany (enemy info displayed on HUD) V1.3

    Mig-23P cockpit made by Ordway, Starfighter2, lindr2.

Original cockpit made by Armourdave and Sal.
Avionics and optional advanced flight model by Nele.

The Mig-23P was the "within-borders" air-defense version with the enemies' data listed on the HUD. It had incredible data linking capabilities.

For SFP1 series. Just dump the whole Mig-23P folder into your aircraft folder. Almost no independent "P" version exists so this is a whole independent self-sufficient folder based on Starfighter2s avionics and Armourdave and Sal's Mig-23 variations. You need avionics 70 and the latest patch updates from Thirdwire. Tested on Windows XP and not Vista. However it might work on Vista too.

This is the Mig-23P cockpit in a Russian blue color and modded to the Mig-23P standard from Armourdave and Sal's Mig-23 grey-colored cockpit.

I repainted it and added some details, placards, new switches and instruments from color photos.

Starfighter, with massive help from Lindr2, made the brilliant, indespensible Mig-23 P-specific HUD while I had hit a brick wall trying to make a Mig-23 HUD work. They also made the new avionics.ini.

    http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_184.shtml
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
History: So, the Mig-23P (Flogger-G) was an advanced Mig-23. It had a heck of an advanced HUD compared to previous Mig-23s. This was a specialized air-defense interceptor variant developed for the PVO Strany. It had the same airframe and powerplant as the MiG-23ML, but there is a cut-back fin root fillet instead of the original extended one on other models.

Its avionics suite was improved to meet PVO requirements and mission profiles. Its radar was the improved Sapfir-23P, which could be used in conjunction with the gunsight for better look-down/shoot-down capabilities to counter increasing low-level threats like cruise missiles. The IRST, however, was absent. The autopilot included a new digital computer, and it was linked with the Lasur-M datalink. This enabled ground-controlled interception (GCI) ground stations to steer the aircraft towards the target; in such an intercept, all the pilot had to do was control the engine and use the weapons. The MiG-23P was the most numerous PVO interceptor in the 1980s.

Around 500 aircraft were manufactured between 1978-81. The MiG-23P was never exported and served only within the PVO in Soviet service.

Thanks to Armour Dave and Sal for the cockpit.
Thanks to Starfighter2, lindr2 for the Mig-23P HUD which has stymied modelers until now that I know of.

The Mig-23 had incredible strengths and incredible weaknesses.

WEAKNESSES: For weaknesses, most Mig-23s never could turn or roll very well compared to its enemies and had very heavy controls. Its roll was hurt by its control system (spoilers and a diferential tail and the disconnection of spoilers at any but 16 degrees).

In close in combat it was a deathtrap because unless the pilot stayed within certain tight maneuvering limits, it would often lose control and simply crash.

It was incredibly fast at tree top level and could sustain that high speed at low level whereas most other fighters had such a rough low-level ride as to be unsustainable.

Another advantage was its incredible climb rate (for its time) of around 45,000 feet/min ("Fighters", Mike Spick). In other words, it was well suited as an interceptor.

    Directions:

    1) Back up your Mig-23P folder. If you have a Mig-23P folder, this will overwrite almost everything in it.

    2) Just download the whole filefolder Mig-23P intact into your aircraft folder as one folder.
    3) When asked to overwrite say yes.

    4) OPTIONAL: Add Nele's accurate Mig-23P flight model/ (data.ini) which is in the NeilFlightModel folder called MiG-23P_data.ini. Just pop it in and overwrite when asked...back it up as always.

I personally strongly recommend it for getting an accurate feel of the Mig-23P according to the published reports I have researched...but its not for beginners.

V1.3- I added knobs under the warning panels, Neles avionics and gave the option for Nele's accurate Mig-23P flight model.

  15. Mig-23ML Fighter cockpit with working Mig-23ML HUD- Mirage killer (Version 1.3)

    Mig-23ML cockpit (Version 1.1) made by Richard "Pitts2A" Ordway, Starfighter2, lindr2.

For SFP1 series. For Mirage Factory Mig-23ML. You need avionics 70 and the latest patch updates from Thirdwire. Tested on Windows XP and not Vista. However it might work on Vista too.

This is the Mig-23ML cockpit in a Russian dark green color (from color photos of a Mig-23ML-look at the color photo in the folder) and modded to the Mig-23ML standard from Armourdave and Sal's Mig-23 grey-colored cockpit.

I repainted it and added some details, placards, new switches and instruments from color photos. According to Nele, some airframes of the ML did have the SPS-141 onboard ecm jammer.

Starfighter, with massive help from Lindr2, made the brilliant, indispensible Mig-23 ML-specific HUD while I (and most of the community) had hit a brick wall trying to make an accurate Mig-23 HUD work. They also made the new avionics.ini and cockpit.ini.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    HISTORY:

The Mig-23ML had a big event on 27 September 1987. It is not much contested that in a wide-ranging dogfight one of two Mig-23MLs hit one of two maneuvering SAAF Mirage F.1s with a R-23R AA missile in air-to air combat and that the Mirage never landed safely. The two Mig-23MLs did land safely. Both sides apparently were ground controlled.

So the SAAF (South African Air Force) Mirage F.1 never made it safely back because of air-air combat damage. It crashed on attempting to land and was totaled to never fly again. To me that is a kill, but to each their own.

    http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_184.shtml

One can conclude that in actual air-air combat against a well trained enemy, the Mig-23ML proved it was historically capable of killing another maneuvering fighter without losses.

The Mig-23 had some advantages over other fighters. It's acceleration was reputed to be outstanding even by today's standards. It could unusually hug the ground and fly at high speeds for long times unlike most other fighters which would almost break apart due to turbulence. For its time it also had an incredible climb rate. Finally, it was an extremely short takeoff and landing aircraft in case of nuclear war with its swing-wings.

It was also the Soviet's first swing-wing fighter and designed for BVR (beyond visual range) combat.

    2) Now secondly download this other additional Mig-23 package from the Mirage Factory and install it (the Mig-23ML will not work without it):
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5211

    2) Just put this whole filefolder Mig-23ML contents into the Mig-23ML aircraft folder .

    3) When asked to overwrite say yes.

    4) OPTIONAL: Add Nele's accurate Mig-23ML flight model/ECM (data.ini) which is in the NeilFlightModel folder called MiG-23ML_data.ini. Just pop it in and overwrite when asked...back it up as always.

I personally strongly recommend it for getting an accurate feel of the Mig-23ML according to the published reports I have researched...but its not for beginners.

Thanks to Starfighter2, lindr2 for the Mig-23ML HUD which has stymied modelers until now that I know of. Incredible milestone!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 1.1- I made several realistic changes and brought it up to the M version's acccuracy standard. I made the directions more clear thanks to user feedback.

There are sharp differences between the early and late cockpits such as instrument location, RADAR and gunsight.

V1.3- I added knobs under the warning panels and gave the option for Nele's accurate Mig-23ML flight model.

  16. Mig-23MLD Cockpit (Ultimate, final Mig-23 version-1982) with working Mig-23MLD HUDV1.3

This is the Mig-23MLD cockpit. The Mig-23MLD was the "ultimate" and last version Mig-23 released starting in 1982. I added quite a few changes compared to the earlier ones including a new HUD from Starfighter 2 and Lindr2, a new cockpit color and changed the gunsight around to match photos better. It now has two new knobs on it according to photos.

So the late Mig-23MLD was quite a cooker too. It was lighter than earlier versions (to dogfight better) and finally added chaff and flares (most sources state, however, that it had no on-board ECM. However on-board ECM was added to the ground attack version- the Mig-27K). Apparently a prototype "Mig-23MLDG" had on-board ECM, so as usual things get cloudy with this airplane. According to Nele, some airframes of the MLD did have the SPS-141 onboard ecm jammer.

The MiG-23MLD was the most advanced version of the Flogger. It had a different identification-friend-or-foe system (IFF), a more advanced missile capability and a distinctive notch in the leading edge of the wing to improve flight characteristics at high angles of attack.

The flight-control system was modified to improve handling and safety in high-AoA maneuvers (dogfighting). Huge imrovements were made in avionics and survivability: the Sapfir-23MLA-II radar featured improved modes for look-down/shoot-down and close-in fighting. A new SPO-15L radar warning receiver was installed, along with chaff/flare dispensers. The new and effective R-73 (NATO: AA-11 'Archer') short-range air-to-air missile was added to inventory.

They were apparently produced between 1982-85 during the cold war years and would have been available for the "Ronney the Ray-gun" era. They were not produced new but were upgrades to existing 'ML/MLA' versions.

V 1.3 I added knobs to under some warning lights. I took out the provisions for an onboard SPS-141 ECM as some airframes had them and others not (mostly not). I added an optional accurate flight model (Nele's) and optional Gardeniya external ECM pod. I added Nele's more accurate avionics.ini.

  17. Mig-23M Fighter Cockpit (First Mass Production Version) with working Mig-23M HUD V1.5

This is the SFP1 series cockpit (version 1.3) for the first mass produced Mig-23 version, the Mig-23M of the Mirage factory. Download the Mig-23 package here:

This is the Mig-23M cockpit in a very dark Russian green color (from photos)and modded to the Mig-23M standard from Armourdave and Sal's Mig-23 powder blue-colored cockpit.

I repainted it and added some details, placards, new switches and instruments from color photos.

Starfighter, with massive help from Lindr2, made the brilliant, indespensible Mig-23 M-specific HUD while I had hit a brick wall trying to make an accurate Mig-23 HUD work. They also made the new avionics.ini.

    http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_184.shtml

The Mig-23M first flew on June 1972 around the time of the Viet Nam War.

It was produced from 1972-1978 and reportedly had a total of more than 1,300 planes built.

Its avionics suite was improved over the preproduction Mig-23S (Flogger A) and was probably the first VVS fighter to have limited look-down/shoot-down capabilities and be effective in the BVR (beyond visual range)environment.

It's radar, when working, was reportedly generally equal to the F-4J's.
In actual air-air combat against a well trained enemy, the Mig-23 proved it was historically capable of killing other maneuvering and aware fighters.

However, it had such maneuvering restictions that dogfighting was almost suicide.

IN SFP1, I find, that if you stay fast at treetop level, you can pop up and dispatch even an occasional F-16 and be away before you get killed.

Thanks to Armour Dave and Sal for the cockpit.
Thanks to Starfighter2, lindr2 for the Mig-23ML HUD which has stymied modelers until now that I know of.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 1.1- I added some warning lights on the main dash and subtracted the threat panel. I subtracted the warning light panel on the side panel and put in a warning panel as per photos. Finally, I added a round threat panel on the far right. The change is quite remarkable for accuracy.

Version 1.2- I made the directions more clear thanks to user feedback. I added one more panel according to photos.

Version 1.3- I added an .ini so that it would be easier to install with the .70 avionics already included. I upgraded the radar to the later Sapfir-23D-III radar (the Mig-23 apparently had three versions of differing strength).

Version 1.4 -I added knobs under the warning light panels after refining techniques from the Mig-27 series cockpits.

Version 1.5- I redid the avionics.ini because some people were having problems with the HUD appearing.

  18. F-102A Delta Dagger Cockpit (Field Modified) V.5

This is a field-modified Convair F-102A Delta Dagger cockpit for Veltro2k's beautiful F-102A based on Pasko's F-106 stunning cockpit.

It has been modified over time by crews in the field as newer equipment came in and older equipment broke down and needed to be replaced. Apparently historically after time, almost no two F-102A cockpits had the same equipment in the same places as the others.

This is based on Pasko's beautiful later Convair F-106A Delta Dart Cockpit.

Tape gages were eliminated. Round gages were added. The moving map was removed and the radar display was changed and made a historically correct orange. The radar hood was made into a F-102A version. Lots of other detail work done was from actual color cockpit photos. It is much "greyer" and simpler than the later F-106A cockpit.

The F-102A was actually involved in air-air combat in Viet Nam while on a B-52 escort mission. One F-102A was shot down in ambush by a Mig 21 with an Atoll missile on 3 February 1968 according to the ACIG website. Another F-102A shot several Hughes AIM-4 falcon missiles at a Mig-21 but the results were not seen.

According to the ACIG website, a Turkish F-102A was in combat against Greek F-5s with shootdowns and other combats reported in July 1974.

Thanks to Pasko for his fantastic F-106 cockpit included in the complete later F-106A Delta Dart that you can download at CombatAce.

If I forgot anyone, I appologize and please tell me. I finished this cockpit about a year before the Veltro2k F-102A was released and I lost track of things.

Apparently some USAAF Viet Nam pilots jury-rigged a mini-gun into the F-102 for some extra buzz.

    Version History:

V.2 You can now see the wing tips and wing tanks from the cockpit...thanks for Lexx_luthor's suggestion
Thanks to Dave to point out the goof I made that it was Pasko's F-106 cockpit and not Dave's that I based the model on.

V.3 Added to the bottom right instrument panel: 1) an AC voltmeter and 2) a master warning test and reset switch which some photos show and 3) more detail to the warning light panel as per color cockpit photos making it even more different than the standard F-106 cockpit.

V.4 Added the huge signature F-102A red nav indicator light to the middle of the panel. Changed the colors of the artificial horizon to F-102 specific colors and markings. Changed the colors of the Radio direction instrument to F-102 specific colors and markings. This is probably the final version.

V.5 I now included the very specific F-102A artificial horizon this time with gray-blue top, gray markings, black bottom with blue markings which I left out in V.4 by mistake. If you compared the photo with the current F-102A artificial horizon, you can probably see the difference.

  19. F-102A Fast Bleed flight model V.3

This is an alternate flight model I developed about a year before the F-102A Delta Dagger was released by Veltro2K. It is based on Pasko's F-106 flight model, but modified in deliberate ways. I used Mirage 3 flight models as a guide as well as it is underpowered and has that huge hanging delta.

After I finished, I stop watch timed its climb compared to the F-106, and it matched the specs very closely if I remember right.

I added more drag as well because of the more forward air inlets and other drag producing features. I played with the engine thrust until the climbing numbers worked out.

Although a beautiful flying airplane, it bleeds off speed much faster than the F-106 (and the standard released F-102A) in high G situations due to less engine power and more drag. It also climbs much slower, but still not bad compared to contemporaires.

However, It really is not a dogfighter as some would claim the later more powerful and more refined F-106 was. I have dogfighted this flight model against all types of early Migs to the Mig-21. If you keep fast and boom and zoom with its incredible radar system, you can equal the Mig-21 and sometimes kill one.

Thanks to Pasko for his incredible F-106 flight model.

    V.3 changes.
The drop tanks are now droppable. Thanks Lexx_Luthor.
It was Pasko's F-106 flight model not Dave's that I based the F-102 on. Thanks Dave.
The pilot in the extenal view in now in the cockpit which some people had problems with depending on how much had been added.

    Instructions:

1-Backup your files! (This time I really mean it...you may not like the flight model!)

2- Unzip the contents of the F-102 flight model folder to ...\SFP1\Objects\Aircraft\F-102A\.

    3-When prompted, overwrite the files.

  21. Dassault Super Mystere B.2 Early-Mid life cockpit Ver2.0 (From CA_Stary's)

This is mostly CA_STARY's work and you should quote him as the main author. All I did was add eighteen or so items/working features to his already brilliant cockpit. I used several Super Mystere color cockpit photos to bring it to better represent an early to mid-life Super Mystere B.2 cockpit.

It has a round working afterburner warning light, a photorealistic lower instrument panel and the more standard WW2-type artificial horizon among other items listed in the readme. Thanks CA_Stary!!!!

This is a modification and repaint of Thirdwire's F-100D cockpit and CA_Stary's cockpit to better represent an early to mid-life Super Mystere B.2 cockpit.

The Super Mystere was of the same generation/class as the supersonic F-100, but was smaller.

  23. Mig-19P (Radar Variant) Cockpit

A Cockpit mod of the Thirdwire Scooter's cockpit, to create the Cuban-modified Mig-19P working-radar cockpit for use in Wrench's Mig-19P (or any other radar-equipped Mig-19).

    Download Wrench's Mig-19P aircraft here:
    http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5070

Referenced from multiple color photos, and cockpit layout diagrams.

Instruments and placards moved, eliminated, repainted and painted from scratch.

Individual instruments in Russian as they were historically.

The Mig-19 series flew combat and reportedly got kills in the Viet Nam war, the Arab-Israeli wars and the Indo-Pakistani wars.

This aircraft is the one that reportedly sparred with Gary Power's overflying U2.

    The Mig-19P could easily outclimb the F-4 Phantom at about 35,435 ft/min vs the F-4s 28,500 ft/min.*

Top gun training showed that when flying the Mig-19/21, you can often go pure vertical at the merge and often defeat the F-4....or just outturn the F-4 in the deep stall buffet if the F-4 tries to turn slowly too.**

What is different compared to my Mig-19S cockpit:

    1. A radar display was added with correct range lines according to one diagram.

    2. The cockpit panel is a dark blue per color photos.

    3. The Mig-19P deleted one ammo counter between the pilot's legs as it was reduced to two NR-23 cannon to make way for the radar.

4.The Mig-19P also deleted one red gun arming switch because the Mig-19P only had two internal cannons.

    5. Tens of other changes including instrument locations, instrument additions and color changes.

    For SFP1/WOV/WOE/WOI.

*Thanks to Wrench for the Mig-19P and its Mig-17PFU avionics.

*Thanks to Charles for permission to use some gauges from the Meteor (Fuel gage and graphics).

*Thanks to Lexx_Luthor for massive help on relocating instruments.

*Thanks to The Trooper for the photos and coding on making the ADI (artificial horizon work upside down...no mean feat!)

*Thanks to Thirdwire and TK for their sim and some instruments.

Complete credits and history in readme.

    Instructions:

    1-Backup your files!

2.Add contents to the Mig-19P aircraft file.

    3-When prompted, overwrite the files.

More detailed instructions are included within.

Just ask at the combatace forum if you have problems.

    Enjoy!

  24. Mig-19S Cockpit (Twin-Engine Fighter)

A Cockpit mod of the Thirdwire Scooter's cockpit, to create the North Viet Nam-modified Mig-19S cockpit for use in the stock Thirdwire Mig-19S cockpit (or any other non-radar Mig-19).

Referenced from multiple color photos, and cockpit layout diagrams.

Instruments and placards moved, eliminated, repainted and painted from scratch.

Individual instruments in Russian as they were historically.

The Mig-19S was the Soviet Union's first supersonic fighter. It flew combat and reportedly got kills in the Viet Nam war, the Arab-Israeli wars and the Indo-Pakistani wars.

The Mig-19S could easily outclimb the F-4 Phantom at 35,435 ft/min vs the F-4s 28,500 ft/min.* It also could out-accelerate the F-4 up to 465 knots.**

Top gun training showed that when flying the Mig-19/21, you can often go pure vertical at the merge and often defeat the F-4....or just outturn the F-4 in the deep stall buffet with flaps down if the F-4 tries to turn slowly too.***

    Features:

    1. The exhaust gas temperature gauge (EGT) has the twin-engine version with two red circles in it.

    2. The gunsight is changed to the square ASP 5N gunsight with a square crash pad.

    3. The Russians added a distinctive six-light warning panel.

    4. The Mig-19 added three ammo counters between the pilot's legs.

    5. A large red and yellow landing gear handle was added.

    6. Toggle switches finally replaced the buttons on the master panel switch on the right cockpit side panel.

    7. Tens of other features including different instruments, instrument additions and switch changes.

    For SFP1/WOV/WOE/WOI.

    Instructions:

2.Add contents to the Mig-19S aircraft file.

    3-When prompted, overwrite the files.

  25. Mig-17F Cockpit

A Cockpit mod of the Thirdwire Scooter's cockpit, to create the North Vietnam-modified Mig-17F cockpit for use in the standard Thirdwire Mig-17F.

The Mig-17F was the standard version used in Vietnam and Middle East combat.

Referenced from multiple color photos, cockpit layout diagrams.

Instruments and placards moved, eliminated, repainted and painted from scratch.

Individual instruments in Russian as they were historically.

Yes, it correctly has the artificial horizon correctly Soviet-color-reversed, upside down-working (I even flew an ex-Soviet fighter that had this).

Changes to the Mig-17F cockpit compared to the

    Mig-15Bis:

    1. The Russians added the rearview mirror as standard. Apparently on the previous Mig-15, it created too many technical problems to include.

    http://www.vectorsite.net/avmig15_2.html

    2. -The temperature gauge was changed according to some photos to add a big colorful half red circle and they eliminated the colorful rainbow gauge casing around it.

    3. -They added a large red canopy handle according to some photos (very colorful and distinctive!).

    4. The instrument panel rivets started having long screw driver holes in them according to some photos!

    5. A big, silver instrument casing was added to the clock below the artificial horizon...probably a reward for graduating from the Mig-15 :).

    6. Two toggle switches and two extra buttons were added to the cockpit coaming.

    7. Finally, the American-style six diamond gunsight reticle replaced the old British-style round circle.

    For SFP1/WOV/WOE/WOI.

Complete credits and history in readme.

    Instructions:

    1-Backup your files!

2- Unzip the Mig-17F cockpit (North Vietnam

    modified) to ...\SFP1\Objects\Aircraft\Mig-17F\

    3-When prompted, overwrite the files.

More detailed instructions are included within.

Just ask at the combatace forum if you have

    problems.
