Thanks Dutchy, I had seen the site you listed before. I also have previously emailed the Tourism Dept. on Aruba, but they were not helpful at all to me. Their attitude seems to be only helpful if someone is interested in spending money on their island. I just have this feeling that the base at Aruba, Camp Savaneta, must have a section somewhere that deals with its history. If you can contact someone there and find out, I would really be appreciative! Thanks, Navy Chief

Hey Dutchy, I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but maybe you can help me. My dad was stationed on the island of Aruba during part of WW2. He was with the US Army's 38th Division, Headquarters Company. The camp he was on was/is called Camp Savaneta. The forces were based there to protect the oil fields, and is still in use by the Dutch Marines. What I would like to know, if there is a museum on the base that might have pictures of the base when it was in use by US forces? Hey, perhaps if there are some archived pictures, maybe there's one with my dad in them. All the sites I have visited on the web that dealt with Savaneta are in dutch, and could not get any information. I tried the route of contacting the Aruba office of tourism, but that was a complete dead end. Let me know if you can help in any way. Thanks, Navy Chief

Hey Foofighter, The only firearm I own is a 9mm Beretta, Model 92. I bought it used at a sporting goods store in Atlanta. It used to belong to the Dept. of Energy, and came with two 15 round clips. Cost me $350, but was worth it. It stays in a drawer, and I haven't shot it in years. Just before I retired, I spent 6 months in Japan at MCAS Iwakuni. I qualified with a Beretta Model 92 on the base, and really liked its accuracy, and the small amount of recoil. Great pistol. Navy Chief

oops, fictitious......not ficitious. Incorrect spelling drives me nuts! NC

My apologies, folks. The interview with "General Reinwald" is ficitious. I usually check these things, but I didn't do my homework on this one. Still, it is humorous, wouldn't you agree? http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/n/npr-reinwald.htm Navy Chief

THE BEST COMEBACK LINE EVER!!!!!! Marine Corp's General Reinwald was interviewed on the radio the other day and you have to read his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this!!!! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military installation. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base? GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it? GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children? GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers. GENERAL REINWALD: Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you? The radio went silent and the interview ended. You gotta love the Marines! I love it. Navy Chief

AL FRANKEN? The man is a raving lunatic. I wouldn't trust him with taking out my garbage; let alone running the country. If I were voting for a dead person for Pres., it would be Jimmy Stewart, without question. NC I do like O'Reilly, tho.

Hey Charlie, I'll be thinking of your daughter, and pray that all goes well. We close on the "new" house on 15 Sept, but won't be moving until the 29th. We graciously allowed the sellers to remain in the house 'til then, because their new house (down the hill from their present one) won't be ready until then. We actually will be living on 6.61 acres of the owner's original 9 acres. The husband lost his job with the Levis company when they closed the nearby plant, and the job he has now pays half what he made with Levis. So they decided to build a smaller house, as all their kids are grown. Navy Chief

For those of you who have not downloaded and installed this aircraft, it is a real challenge! The audio which accompanies the aircraft, along with all of the instrumentation, is in Russian! Besides that, you have to configure your joystick JUST for this aircraft, and even though I downloaded the English instructions for this aircraft (80 PAGES!), I cannot figure out how to configure my CH controls for it. I have a CH Combatstick, Throttle, and Pedals. If anyone out there has downloaded and installed this aircraft, please let me know what to do here. Thanks. NC

Most of you know I have a Rottweiler, named "Chief". If I have not mentioned it before, Chief is a big baby. To put things into perspective, he licks clean our cats ears, for goodness sake. To categorize Chief as a vicious dog would be ludicrous, and laughable. Truthfully, the only thing that gets Chief upset, is when he sees a bird in the sky, or a leaf blowing across the driveway. Even then, all he does is bark at it. And so, I am in the process of arranging for homeowner's insurance for the house I am buying. Nowadays, one of the questions asked by the agent is, "Do you have a dog, and if so, does it have the breed of Rottweiler in its heritage?" Naturally, I had to lie. (GASP!) Because if I told the truth, they would not provide coverage for my home. Ridiculous? That ain't the word for it. Now I ask you. Take a look at the attached picture, and tell me if you think my dog would be considered dangerous in any way? By the way, this picture is another example of my wife's photography. Personally, I feel it is MORE than demeaning to my dog, and the proud nature of his breed!!!! My wife has turned my dog into a woosy! Navy Chief

Read the article at the following link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,131319,00.html If found to be of substance, it would surely bring Kerry's integrity into question. Remember when Admiral Jeremy Boorda committed suicide when he learned that a reporter was about to disclose he had wrongly worn two Combat V pins on a Bronze Star, a medal that does not denote valor under fire? At the time, Kerry said the following: "If you wind up being less than what you're pretending to be, there is a major confrontation with value, self-esteem and your sense of how others view you." "Kerry hasn't made his service the center piece of his campaign" Uh, I beg to disagree. As Fates remarked, Kerry saluted the convention with his, "reporting for duty". John ("Have I told you I was in Vietnam?") Kerry And all this talk about Bush not serving his country, while Kerry went to Vietnam. You know, I bet all the folks who served in the various National Guard units would take issue with the comparison. Somewhat of a slap in the face to them, wouldn't you say? Foofighter, I definitely understand your wanting to express your political views. I sure do, as if you didn't notice! Heh, heh. By the way, President Bush definitely hit a "home run" last night in his speech. Go GW!! And I DO LOVE flight simming!! Although, what with this move to Tennessee going on later this month, I won't be doing much of that. And I probably won't be able to afford my DSL connection for a while, 'cause I will be carrying two mortgage payments until my house sells. Ouch. Navy Chief

Peter Jennings mouthing off, eh? I bet he had no trouble spending all those millions he has made here in the good ole USA. As for Senator Miller being a traitor, where the hell was Jennings during the Clinton impeachment hearings?????? NC

Can you imagine if it was Al Franken conducting the interview? I will be crucified for this remark, but Al Franken is another living example of why there is a reason FOR birth control. The other great example is Michael Moore. Navy Chief
