  1. I enjoyed playing SWAT 4 quite a bit. It's a totally different mindset to try and arrest them instead of just shoot them dead. Of course, the game was overly restrictive on ROE, and pretty much the guy had to shoot at you first before you were allowed to shoot him or it was "unjustified."
  2. Nope, this is totally separate. None of the testing is relying on this engine. Unfortunately for P&W, the F136 looks to be coming out better than the F135. More power, more margin for growth, etc. While it could still be cancelled, it looks like it may be the superior engine in the long run.
  3. Funny a B-1B was used in the pic as I was just imagining TF flight into a windmill farm could ruin their day PDQ. Anyway, helo rotor blades cause the same thing on radars, but they're usually edge-on and not perpendicular to the radars so it's less of an issue.
  4. Frankly I don't think it will be too long until airlines are run the way railroads are. Then they can all ask for gov't subsidies, too.
  5. A Merc expansion is cool because there's no limits on which planes can be included other than the dates it covers. The Mits F-1 he mentioned is an excellent example because in real life it's never flown in combat or been off Japanese territory, but that's no reason not to put it in a merc game. Anyway, I'm glad to see there is a Korean game planned for the long term, I've only been waiting for it since WOV came out, I'm just worried when that will be! Perhaps he'll release it in '12 for SF's 10th anniversary?
  6. Just like that, the weekend is over...

  7. I don't know if "ground breaking" is appropriate, but it's more than just buying a car with a nicer stereo and leather seats. It does everything TIR 4 did, but better. In some areas you might not necessarily notice, but in others you will. My gut says if you have a TIR3 or older you'd be thrilled with an upgrade, if you don't have one at all you should pick it up, and only those who have a TIR 4 may sit on the fence.
  8. Didn't know you could fly the F-4 in FF5.5. Still, seems a bit of an insult not to use SF2 when they could've done pretty much all of that!
  9. Would you choose a belly landing over lowering gear and not knowing if it may be locked due to the electrical faults?
  10. I don't care what order they come out in, I'm getting them. Haven't missed a release yet, not about to start now! Well, ok, I didn't get SFP Gold or FE Gold, those were redundant.
  11. So I see we can load 16 Hellfires, unlike the US Army which says no. The startup sequence reminds me of the Su-25T in FC/2. It's more than just a simple "on" switch, but it's no Black Shark/F4 multi-step sequence. Oh, awesome sunset, too.
  12. In pretty much every way DCS is the successor to what the Falcon 4 Battlefield Series was going to be. If F4 isn't your cup of tea, I'm afraid these may be as well. However, if you don't mind things a bit more complicated than SF, I can recommend Lockon Platinum aka Flaming Cliffs 2. It has the A-10A and is only slightly more complex than flying the A-10 in SF2 (ie you have to move the tracking cursor and lock the Mavericks on yourself and not just hit "E" and press fire). It also has the Su-25, 25T, 27, 33, F-15, MiG-29A, and 29G.
  13. Open up the case and check the fan on the video card and make sure it turns and/or isn't caked with dust. They do burn out, it happens, but just make sure that's what happened to you.
  14. Well, the F-4 was a big step up from the P-51 in speed and capability, so who wouldn't want to upgrade? However, the F-22 makes the F-4 look like garbage, so there you go. It's not that there's anything wrong with TIR 4, the 5 is just more precise. We're doing a review here and you'll see soon what they mean.
  15. That has to be the most redundant name I've seen in awhile, like William Williams.
  16. This is no different than Target or Walmart declining to sell certain types of magazines or DVDs. You can get them elsewhere, you're allowed to, they just do not sell them in that place. The BX isn't a commercial company anyway. There are lots of things they don't carry, this will just be another. Will it hurt their sales? Likely not that much. It won't affect those living in the US, only those abroad, and they can always ask for people at home to buy one and mail it to them. It makes a slight inconvenience, nothing more.
  17. What, the senators from NM aren't raising a stink over this? Or are they just too junior to get anyone to listen?
  18. I still find it hard to believe. I mean, "flight cancellation" and "C-5" are basically synonymous in AMC.
  19. I guess it's the missile community's term for a prototype of some sort. It mentions it's now entering the qualification phase, so I guess it's passed the early prototypes. In old jet terms, this isn't like the XF-86, it's more like the YF-86, but not yet the F-86A.
  20. Let's face it, there's hardly a lot of differences in modern jet trainers. The MiG-AT, the Yak-130, MB-339, Hawk, TA-50, they all share certain traits. It's the nature of the animal.
  21. They changed that, then, because my TIR 4 had a CD in the box. As for settings, that's VERY subjective. Things like dead zone and sensitivity are wildly preference based.
  22. I remember one of the ones that hit in 2005 they did one of their stupid "send a reporter to stand in the high winds and driving rains to tell people not to go out in the driving rains and winds" bits with a woman who couldn't have been over 5' and 100lbs. She was literally holding on to a street sign with both arms, holding the mike with a free hand and keeping her head down as the 80+ mph winds blew around her. The news anchors back at the studio both said "uh, maybe you should get indoors or under some shelter" because it was obvious this woman was about 10 seconds away from turning into a human kite. Makes you wonder what kind of idiot her producer was if the ANCHORS could see she was in danger.
  23. I wonder if Have Blue only flew at night, never during the day. Maybe there is only footage of it during the day in hangars, never in flight, so there's no flight footage to see. The camo scheme the F-117 had was optimized for daylight over desert (for these tests I guess), the operational scheme it had was for night use (as it was used most of its career).
  24. They're also using FSAA and there are many types of ways to do it that affect sharpness.
  25. That's just it, this isn't Have Blue, this is just the first F-117. Here's Have Blue:
