  1. Of course, on the flipside, humans NEVER go wrong, do they?
  2. If a disc gets broken, I could get another one (granted paying double) or I could get a crack if it's available. If my ISP goes down, I'm SOL as most people have no access to another ISP. Certainly can't take my HOTAS setup to the local Starbucks and use the Wifi there... In short, Steam seems to have the best handle on how to do it. Everyone trying to reinvent the wheel is just stupid.
  3. I'm working on cleaning out all the really old crap I've not touched for years...very slowly...been taking me years...

    Hugo Chavez

Obviously you'd have to start telling him how great fascism is and that he should convert.
  5. If one of the crystals in the saber is made of Kryptonite, yes. Otherwise, it's just a frickin laser beam!
  6. Remember the F-117s were retired early because the F-22 was proclaimed able to take over its mission, because the one thing people keep forgetting is stealth is NOT about "protection against enemy fighters" it's about "not being shot down by SAMs". We have 20 B-2s, which isn't a lot at all, but they're not useful against mobile point targets. For the tac role we had F-117s, now we have to use F-22s. If we don't, we have to send an F-15E or F-16 or some other plane that looms very LARGE on radar screens and risks being shot down, as they have in every conflict since Desert Storm.
  7. I can think of some, and I'm sure if we band together we can get some good ones sorted out. We obviously need to cover both SP and MP modes, things like unlockables (or not), scalable difficulty/ levels of realism (other than visual), equipment, AI, etc. I want OFPDR to be good, I take no pleasure in seeing crap released, but I'm very skeptical, especially seeing how much time and effort BIS has put into OFP/VBS/ArmA over the last decade and still fighting bugs and things.
  8. I guess they never considered that sometimes ISP's go down? It's happened to me so I can't play any MP games, but I can still play some SP. At least Steam has an "offline" mode if the net connect fails.
  9. Sorry, EVERY gov't lies when it speaks. It doesn't matter what letter follows their name, they're lying. I would be happy if all 535 members of Congress, every high court judge, and the executive branch were replaced tomorrow by random people taken from the population. I guarantee things would get better, maybe a LOT better. Oh, and the bureaucracy must be thrown out. I don't care what forms you THINK are needed, they aren't. All your rules justify YOUR existence. The US gov't is as effective as Tylenol against ebola.
  10. Oh, well, I'm glad it wasn't YOU that required his services.

    District 9

I'm interested, but worried this may feel too foreign to succeed. It certainly has been looking more mainstream in the later trailers than the earlier ones.
  12. Don't they have some crazy little women there?
  13. I was born right before Apollo 17, so it was all history to me and the irony is I'll never walk there myself because I'll certainly be too old by the time it could ever happen (moon tourists). That to me is the real tragedy...that there was money for stupid things like Social Security but not to get our butts off the Earth and into the galaxy.
  14. The Apollo 14 trail is amazing!
  15. Being a writer is not a path to getting rich quick, that's for certain. Unless you're writing about a young boy wizard, in which case you'll hit your first billion in a couple of years!

    Light Sabers

The noise-making ones superseded the light-only ones. They were basically flashlights with an inflatable tube on the end that the light shone thru. Hitting two together was like...well, they were basically tube-shaped beachballs, so you can imagine how limp it was!
  17. Well it's not like any politician would claim something they pushed for would "hurt the troops", would they?
  18. Yes, good question. What if a pilot with hundreds of hours in each of several different planes does NOT feel it's the best?
  19. My question is--is the file really infected, or is this just another AV false alarm? I remember one update to AVG once quarantined my long-installed FEAR.exe for no good reason. A bad virus sig update was the culprit. In a couple of days another update cured the problem. Try disabling Mcafee and scan with another program temporarily to see if it's real or just all in Mc's head.
  20. I wonder what happened there. Yeah, the wide-open exploration, even more so that FC1, is what makes this game worth playing. Some of the other things are indeed tedious. I'm still not sure how I feel about the end of the game. Let me know what you think when you finish it.
  21. The question remains...how good will it be? We already saw with Far Cry 2 what a sequel in name only can be like, what will this be?
  22. FYI in the lower right corner of every post is an "edit" button along with quote and reply buttons.
  23. Honestly, though, would you drive a car built by Boeing?? Besides, that's wrong...Mitsubishi builds cars and jets, too.
  24. I heard it was a mechanical fault, but I suppose that wasn't an official report?
  25. Usually system restore is on automatically from the time of Vista (and XP) install. My laptop was suffering and I went to do Sysrestore only to also discover not a single point. Now, normally in addition to periodic snapshots Windows will also take one anytime a program is installed or uninstalled. I knew something was up. Searching around the net I discovered there are issues with permissions on HDs that prevent sysrestore from writing snapshots to the directory it should be. These issues, however, only seem to appear on OEM loads of Windows ie on PCs bought with Windows already on it, not on ones that people built themselves or bought an upgrade of Windows and installed over their previous versions. If this is you, then you may well have this same problem and sysrestore won't work for you at all. In the end, I was forced to back up and restore my entire OS on the laptop. That was a fun half-day.
