  1. The only war run by accountants that can succeed is if your enemy consists also of accountants.
  2. Well, if you go DDR3 now you'll be able to keep it for your next upgrade to the i7. So it costs a little more now but you'll save having to buy new RAM again later.
  3. Thanks, guys. Her back is a little better, but that's not saying much, unfortunately! She can only turn her head from 11-1 o'clock, so no driving, can't pick up the baby... looks like I'll be taking tomorrow off to take her to the doctor and help out here. Definitely one of those mixed days!
  4. I actually think that was supposed to be the sound of infantry charges, not specifically cheering you.
  5. Yeah, I got to spend mine taking the wife to the emergency room after she pulled out her back holding the baby. Yippee.
  6. Actually, you should say "other people" because AFAIK the most advanced F-15s and F-16s were NOT built for the US. We've had older ones upgraded with AESA and things, but no new-builds.
  7. That's a good question. I think the slowest i7 is on par with the fastest C2Ds right now, with the quads basically running the same speed (ie a 3GHz quad runs most things as fast as a 3GHz duo unless it's coded to use more than 2 cores). The main reason I didn't go core i7 yet was that they need DDR3 RAM and I still have DDR2 and didn't want to pay to upgrade THAT too. Oh, plus core i7 mobos all seem to cost a good deal more than C2D/Q boards, which you can get even under $100. I'm not sure if there's a core i7 board out under $200 yet.
  8. Not since SWOTL in my college days! When SFP1 first came out I spent some time tweaking the early .inis as modders were still figuring things out, but as time progressed it became less necessary. However, I'm speaking mostly of mods that are now several steps back i.e. '06 patch levels (I still have an SFP1 install at that level for them) or FE pre-expansion pack patch (ditto). I'm sure updating an 11/08 patch-compatible mod to SF2 isn't too big a deal, but I've had so little time for even doing the simplest things with my TW sims these past 9 months---well, it's going to 10 months a week from Sunday, man she's getting bigger every day!---that literally my folder of DL'd-but-yet-to-install-mods for TW sims is much larger than my folder of already-installed mods is! I mean, when I don't even have time to run the one-click installers, you know it's bad! The only "new" things I've done other than the SF2 installs is ODS and NF4.
  9. #3...the larch.
  10. You have your own special way...
  11. Maybe the MiG-17 was just smoking a lot of reefer?
  12. Arma (and OFP) has really always been about the infantryman's view of the war. Armor is just a side trip, and as such isn't modeled nearly as well as other things in the game. Dedicated tank games do a better job generally. That said, I've yet to try the ArmA 2 demo (that's tonight!) and I don't know how tanks are done in the final game. The demo is free, though, so try it!
  13. FYI this is not the OFF forum, this is the forum for all WWI sims that do not have forums elsewhere. First Eagles and OFF have them. So any tweaks or tips for RoF you may have, feel free to post them in this forum (although I would recommend starting a new thread for it).
  14. Well, an argument can be made that while a murder ruins ONE life and family, what he did has ruined the lives of MANY families. Intent is also an issue, as has been stated here. An accidental murder, even in the commission of a crime like a holdup, isn't the same as purposefully ruining as many people as you can so you can get rich and live the highlife. I don't think a financial crime like this should be treated more lightly than some guy on crack killing the dude at 7-11 for drug money, but I agree to give them a magnitude harsher sentence doesn't make sense either. Unfortunately, sentencing guidelines for breaking laws are often created in a vacuum, without really comparing them to existing sentences for breaking other laws, leading to these disparities.
  15. They were comic relief, of course. I LOL'd when I saw Jetfire had a walking stick that was part of him with the nose gear at the end of it!
  16. I think the extravagant sentence is because of parole laws. By making it so long that dictates the minimum amount of time he must serve before he can possibly get released for "good behavior"...because let's face it, it's hard to commit financial crimes in prison. Of course, the Daily Show had a hilarious bit on a new Ponzi scheme Madoff was going to setup in prison...
  17. I think we all know who won the MPG battle...
  18. Honestly, HD space is cheap and as stated getting some of these mods updated will be a major PITA. So I'm not going to trash any old installs unless an updated one comes out (like OTC) to 100% replace it. Just like I sometimes load up a classic FPS or RTS to play, so I also load up older flight sims, especially modded ones. There's room for all of them on my HD!
  19. I loved Sam's parents and the Chevy twins (whatever their names were). Jetfire was cool, too. My wife said "Hey, we took pictures of that plane when we were there!" Tony Todd was great as the Fallen, too. It was like hearing Worf's brother again but dressed in metal.
  20. Maybe they should feed him to the Sarlacc. "In its belly, you will learn a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over 1000 years..."
  21. "...today in the news, many weaker citizens of the UK fled to Italy for no apparent reason..."
  22. Weird Al only did 2 MJ songs in 25 years, so that's hardly excessive. He's also done 2 Star Wars songs. He's done 2 Billy Joel songs (one unreleased). He's done 2 Madonna songs, if you count the fact that his American Pie parody came out before her cover of it. Anyway, Thriller is the best by far because of what it did for the musical video form...it legitimized it and also made it separate from the song itself.
  23. This is just a console port of Il-2 with some graphical updates and I'm sure many other things removed or simplified. I don't doubt it will be the most realistic WWII flying combat on the console, I just don't know how much that will actually be.
  24. Where's the brand name of the card? That should tell you what it is. All that is there is the generic model name. I have that exact CPU and video--E8600 and 260/216--and it works great, although I don't have RoF. I haven't tried OC'ing yet, but I'm sure I can get something good out of it if need be. Right now 3.3GHz seems enough. I decided to go 2 cores right now because few games take advantage of 4, so faster 2 cores better bang for the same buck as 4 slower. The new core i7s however have this ability to auto OC themselves if you only run 1 or 2 cores, a truly brilliant idea. Still too pricey for me, though, so that will be my NEXT upgrade last next year or so.
  25. It's amazing how intense some of those missions can be in SF2V. I'm also in a Rolling Thunder campaign, albeit with the F-105. I can't believe those guys used to do Iron Hand missions for real! Nothing but CBUs vs AAA units firing at you from all directions in a plane that rolls ok but has the pitch authority of a C-5...until you get hit when you get the roll rate of a C-5 and NO pitch authority.
