  1. Well, if they follow industry practice in a year or so we'll see compilation editions with more planes and features than it has now for the same or lower price as the release. The only TK sim I didn't buy on release WAS First Eagles because it only had 3 planes! I felt the price was too high for that. When I saw it at GoGamer I think for $20, I picked it up. I bought the expansion pack on release, though, because it had MORE than the release game (including the necessary Camels and Dr.I) and I felt it was worth that price. I don't doubt they've got the foundation for a great sim here, I just doubt the sim as currently available is great.
  2. BIS has become notorious for needing at least 5 patches to get the game in the state it should have been at release. That's why I'm waiting for now, although I'm considering getting it in time for SimHQ's July 4th game.
  3. I'm waiting for them to get at least one more generation down before I try one. Price should drop further and performance should increase. I've heard they're not as good for laptops right now as you might think because they actually take more power than a standard HDD. After decades of work, they know how to make an HDD use the bare minimum of power necessary to work in a given situation. The issue with an SSD is the entire thing runs on binary power, it's either ON or OFF. So anytime you access the drive for the slightest thing it uses as much power as booting or loading a program or even watching a video stored on it. I think hybrid drives might be the future, with large multi-GB caches for the boot/system side and the rest a standard spinning platter.
  4. My 2003 4Runner is running great, almost have 50k miles on it and other than some scratches/nicks in the paint and that gritty wear on the windshield it still works like the day I got it.
  5. I won't see it till Saturday, when I plan on heading in right after lunch!
  6. Yes, but there's no camera in the world that will let you get a clear picture of a watch right in front of the camera and a distant vista in focus at the same time. The pictures were obviously not all taken by the same camera. However, they are astonishingly clear and provide an important narrative.
  7. Weston?? Good god, man, what were you doing there?? Aren't there enough overpriced overhyped cesspools of wannabe-snobs in Mass??

That would be a great trick as UPN went off the air a few years ago.
  9. "No bloody A, B, C, or D!"
  10. They were pulled out, but yes the YC-14 and 15 were returned there after the C-17 began to enter service.
  11. Oh, the horror stories of getting old crap to run on Vista with all the DoD's wonderful security on top of it that I could tell you! But I won't, because I'm trying to bury the memories, repress them such that they won't surface until I'm on my death bed, and hopefully by then I will be incapable of recollection...
  12. Well, I've been called a Royal Pain in the Ass before, how close is that?
  13. 6km is under 4 miles, and I seriously doubt a B-2 would overfly a target that close in a threat environment anyway. Besides, quite often stealth planes have very NONstealthy transponders going in friendly airspace to enable them to be tracked by ATC while also keeping allies from getting a look at the "true stealth" abilities.
  14. Wasn't it just last year they were talking about his place in LA getting foreclosed on? Guess he'll be back with his old pal every night now up there, doing shtick for the masses...

Well, it's the masses' fault for actually watching the tripe and tuning in every night in droves to see it. We USED to have scripted television that had to be carefully produced by a large team, but these reality shows are so damned cheap the networks don't want to bother anymore. They bring out a new show and if it doesn't find an audience almost immediately they can it and show another retarded reality show. Series used to get an entire season to see if they would work, the number of older shows cancelled with less than a season under their belts every year could be counted on one hand. Now it's amazing if 1/3 of the shows on the air at the start of the season are still around at the halfway point, let alone the end!
  16. You know, I don't think I've ever used rockets in a TW sim! It's always bombs or guns for me.
  17. When you're going that slow most sims have problem with the FM coding. You really need a good helo FM (which the TW sims don't yet have).
  18. Well, it's more that Win7 is to Vista what XP was to 2000. Vista SP1 is its Win98SE. The main issue is going to be will 7 be as good as XP was or as good as XP SP2 (which was when people started to actually LIKE XP...I think a lot of people forget all the hating XP got at release).
  19. Still sounds to me like it will get boring after a month or 2.

It's the most pointless reality show in a long line of pointless reality shows. If I could go back in time 20 years and kill the MTV exec who first proposed the Real World before they started it and keep this genie in the bottle for even 5 more years, I would.
  21. I don't think it's possible to cast Pegg and not make the character comedic. However, it's not like Doohan's Scotty wasn't funny quite often.
  22. For First Eagles, it's easier to go to the forum for it and the subforum for file announcements as only FE files are listed there. It's true those are listed by submission date only, but at least you will only be wading thru FE stuff there.
  23. Yeah, tracking a plane with a radar at a range of under 1 mile is probably the most useless ability there is. It needs to track them OUTSIDE rifle range!
  24. I saw the YC-14 and 15 at Pima Air Museum in the 80s. Apparently shortly afterwards they pulled them both out for further testing in support of the C-17 program.
  25. Personally I'm not a big fan of the Adour thanks to its age. That said, I'm not sure the Honeywell would be better. It certainly has more power, but I don't know if its reliability/maintenance records are really well established.
