If only Maverick & Goose had flown the F-14B/D
ironroad replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
I remember the opportunities I did have over the years to see the old girl do take-offs and touch and goes. You could feel the GE engines travel through your body when they went into afterburner and that high-pitch engine whine during spool-up, particularly on the TF-30, man it's ear piercing. I thank god for having the opportunity to personally see and hear the A-6, A-4, F-14, and S-3 fly. -
A tribute to all those that work so hard to support the "pointy" end of the spear. **Stay Tuned for XI (Eleven) Part 8, because when the tankers start getting positioned you know it's about to go down.

Aww man and its painted up in 555th colors. I would do dirty and unspeakable things to experience that and would die a happy and content man.

I had it happen to me a few times, once I had an HDD fail on me, no way I could get to anything because the drive physically malfunctioned. Recently, my copy of Windows became corrupted, could not get it to boot no matter what I did in the recovery console and even tried to boot the drive on another system as a secondary drive. Spent weeks trying to recover, restore, and repair, nothing worked. Finally I had to bite the bullet and reinstall Windows all over again, on the plus side I did not loose much (only my copy of Strike Fighters 2 and the keys) and was able to move the old Windows files to another drive using partition magic. I vowed never again, and have stocked up on sd cards, flash drives, and a back USB hdd.

Crash After Takeoff Bug
ironroad posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Anyone experiancing AI nose diving after takeoff. Was toying around with a created mission and noticed that B-52s like to nose dive towards the ground a few feet after takeoff. Is this a bug? If so how long has it been? *Note: I tried messing with the wind speed/direction, loads, and fuel; no avail. What usually happens is that the lighter loaded BUFFs just crash shorter than the heavier ones. Trak is here: http://www.filedropper.com/yetanotherbugaswearepayingtobebetatesters -

Crash After Takeoff Bug
ironroad replied to ironroad's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
UPDATE: Tried a few other heavies at the large Russian/Bomber transport base, and the B-52 seems to be the only aircraft that does this after takeoff. It does not appear the stall out or loose airspeed after takeoff, instead the AI deliberately nosedives into the end of the runway -
If you do a Youtube search on Great Planes, WINGS (insert aircraft name/designator), or Discovery Great Planes you can find a lot 70s/80s era documentaries on WWII and Cold War Era aircraft. The WINGs and Great Planes series was awesome, I remember having a few of those on VHS and I believe they were originally produced in either the UK or one of the Commonwealth countries (the narrator's accent sounds kind of Aussie or Kiwish*). Good stuff, back when documentaries had good footage, were formal, had decent narration, and really delved into the subject matter and not like today's documentaries which are dumbed-down and try to appeal today's ADHD reality tv generation. I have been looking for the complete Wings/Greatplanes Carrier series, particularly the ones they did on the Korean and Vietnam wars. You also might want to try: https://archive.org/details/HumanHistory Found a few decent 60s, 70s, and 80s Military documentaries there too.

http://shield.nvidia.com/gaming-tablet/ http://videocardz.com/51059/nvidia-extends-shield-family-shield-tablet-wireless-controller Supposedly the latest verison can stream games from your pc over wifi without a hitch you also can stream titles direct over NVIDIA's Grid app. Was thinking about getting one and maybe using one as back up display or even kneeboard map. Any ideas?

Been trying to follow this as it effects just about anyone and everyone. I hope something can be worked out that prevents stop dirty business tricks, but DOES not stifle innovation and competition. The balance between regulation and deregulation is a tricky one and unfortunately the consumer/tax payer always bears the brunt of someone else's "ideal". As a side note; and not directed at any particular person or group, this is about the only thing the country can seem to agree on and the only thing that seems to have mobilize this generation to actually contact and press their government representatives. It is good to see that individual people are taking this serious (no matter side they are on) and are thoughtfully seeking out their elected representatives at all levels of government. Just so we are clear, lets look at all the important issues that people won't formal contact or talk to their elected officials about (unless on a news blog or web forum) Disfunctional government: "no" Global conflict/strife: "no" national security: "no" Police misconduct/civil rights: "no" Jobs/Finance/Economy: "no" Deficit/Spending: "no" Obscure antiquated laws/rules : "no" Disruptions to porn and Twitter access: "GET ME THE ******* PRESIDENT!"

EA-6B Prowlers return home from final carrier cruise
ironroad replied to Viggen's topic in Military and General Aviation
With the USMC still employ them on carriers or are they going have to do what the Air Force chose to do as far as the EW mission goes? -
Two words... EPIC MOVIE! If you have not seen yet I urge you to do so, and/or buy the DVD. Maybe Hollyhole will get the message and stop peddling the remake of a remake crap (or the super hero reboots).

S! to your father. My dad complained about the same Air Force politics, back when he served in the 50s.

Trimming Irritations
ironroad replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Yep, the stick never stays centered and all the new FCS does is fight you by automatically throwing it too much rudder. But what I do like is now that weapons do affect trim. What has helped me was to turn my POV thumb switch into my trim button (kind of like in real life). -
Or.... Only treat certain people nice if you have any inkling that they will one day get a "complex " and try to become cops or gain some other position of authority. Seriously though, you are correct, it is always best to treat everyone some decency or respect unless the situation deems other wise. Even if they are disrespectful, it is best to just leave it alone unless they get overtly aggressive or it s common occurrence as I believe that everyone is entitled to have a crappy day every now and then (so long as it does not pose any physical harm to anyone). I have always told the younger crowd, those that will listen anyway, the best determination of character for a person that you are dating and/or romantically interested in is how they nice or respectful they treat people that they necessarily do not have a reason to. If the person you are involved with is perpetually rude, dismissive, impatient, or haughty towards people like store clerks, waiters, homeless, elderly, children, etc. that is a strong indicator that you do not need to be with or near that person.

They said the F-35C couldnt do it
ironroad replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
I wonder which squadron will be the first to get them operationally, although probably by then the Enterprise will be up and running through the Gamma Quadrant. Oh well they are just tax dollars, I'm sure more money can just be printed off... -
Anyone here familiar with Window's Movie Maker or Power Director? Forgive me if you feel this may be out of place as I would have posted this in the DCS forum, but I figured it was more of a rendering program-related question and not the sim itself. I'm trying to stop my DCS/FC3 videos from being so pixelated and degraded after I render them and upload them my Youtube channel. See my most recent releases here [video:youtube] [video:youtube] I'm using NVIDIA Shadowplay to do all of my capturing. The kicker is the raw files look pretty clean and only get degraded but so much. However, when I render the captured clips the degrade even more (slightly more pixelation but barley noticeable)and then when I upload the files to Boobtube it looks like I'm trying to get a rabbit ears VHF station during a snow storm. I have tired different program, Windows Live Movie Maker and Cyberlink's Power Director, and have rendered files in WMA, AVI, MPEG-2, AVC, and XAVC S at full HD at 1980x1080 and 30p or higher, but I still get the same pixelated effect. Sony Vegas (trial) showed a lot of promise and gave me the cleanest rendered files and those videos subsequently came out the cleanest on Youtube as well.. FYI: I run DCS at 1980x1080, all full settings (visible visible range is turned down some and civ traffic is off). My captures usually range between 30 and 65 FPS depending on the number of aircraft/objects active.

I definitely believe it may be a rendering or upload issue (or perhaps Scroogle/Boobtube throttled the video once upload), as I noticed I get the lowest quality when using Windows Movie maker and Power Director, never had such problems with Sony Vegas. In all my videos I always render them at 30fps (really 29.99999) or 60fps (really 59.9999) if the codec I'm using allows it. I'm using an Asus gaming monitor @144hz and I can definitely tell the difference between this amongst: Latest video using using Power Director This video I did a few months ago using Sony Vegas And this earlier video in my series I did using Windows Live Vegas so far appears to have the minimal amount of pixelation and "haze" in the post rendered file (before it gets uploaded and degraded further). I wondered in needed to play around with the settings in the other two programs (usually try to keep the bit-rate or perhaps try another codec that is upload friendly to Popculturetube. (I usually set custom settings and tell the programs to render at a bit rate at or above 120000).

Hey Fubar, Would have replied earlier but been busy with work and such. I have an AMD 6400+ six core @ 3.4GHZ and 8gb of ram I'm running a GTX 770, Windows 7 home 64 bit. I ran the question at another forum and someone recommended the output bit rate as a possible culprit.
