Murphy's law in action. Our flight of F-8C escorting some Skyraiders got jumped by a flock of Frescos. Wingmen and I line up for a 'winder shot at those who are engaging the bombers. Loud growl - launch. The Fresco of my choice breaks right sharp, AIM-9B decides that A-1's exhaust is hotter and easier to hit. Wingie's Sidewinder finds the Fresco of the top right corner of the picture no fun and goes for A-1 too. Luckily, no one got hurt at that moment. How hot were those ehxausts from A-1 engines in RL? -
I read, that in 1987 in Iraq after particularly successful MiG-25RB missions mechanics would kill a lamb and the pilots would dip their hands in its blood and make palm marks on still warm fuselages.

				Brazil Mi-35, finally painted

But they have 3 gear legs to support them! You HAVE been ripped off! I see these Hinds are not shielded against IR missiles (exhausts are open). Stingers are not expected? -

				No RWR in Nesher SF2I
Gr.Viper replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No idea... early Kfir C1 cockpit has a filler panel in place of RWR screen so it might never've gotten one. Best way to find out - ask TK, at least about Nesher. -

Early Kfir has no RWR too. And in A-4H (73) RWR is bugged/broken. -
So after just 2-month wait I've got the books. By a strange coincidence I dropped in at the store to say "Hi, girls, how are you and where the hell is my pre-paid order?", and was told that they'd call me back. Hardly have I passed the former KGB building next door to the store, when they (well, different department) did call me back and said the order had just arrived and asked when I would be able to pick it up.

Things I don't remember seeing before Plane wreck seems to actually lie on the terrain instead of being placed at some point horizontally. Wingmen landing behind you without being yelled "return to base" or running out of fuel. I got used to seeing them all fly by and in circles after I land. Today I had 3 other Kfirs (rejoined after strike) with me as I went through all final waypoints and landed. Then remembered to tell them and Two RTB. F6-ed to Two and saw that he was on final approach with gear down, but after hearing RTB, retracted gear and went for a re-run. I know somebody'll tell me it's been there all along, but

CCIP went glitchy over hilly terrain, so both my wingie and I missed happily following its directions. Had to knock out the Comm Building with 2 highly accurate dumb IR AAM shots. -

You wasted a KAB on a Jeep??? -
K... Only few months are left till the new fighter's appearance on public so Popular Mechanics decided to sum up everything "known" about it aleardy and speculate about its possible looks. First page covers how the plane was designed, and the rivalry between MiG and Su ending with Sukhoi's victory, increase of minimal plane weight to 35 tons, and dropping the requirement of V/STOL. Then the India got involved and said that they like MiG and won't fund Sukhoi's design. This was followed by yet another feature cut, dropping max speed requirement by M0.15. The planned enigne is the further development of the Su-27 engine. Intermediate variant is currently installed in Su-35, has single plane thrust vectoring, burner thrust of 14000-14500 kgs. Final stage of engine development, which will be put of PAK-FA will have 15300-15500kgs of thrust, flat exhaust and reversible thrust. Appearance was leaked first by Indian media, then by Sukhoi's website, but the pic was quickly pulled down. Estimaded dimensions are 19m lenght, 14m span, 4.5m parked height and weight of 32 tons. Wing sweep 53°. Ahem... then they go on to estimate that the plane's capalities are gonna be 10-15% better than those of F-22, because "F-22 is 18 years old already". Radar is gonna be some phased array monster with fifteen hundred modules, with total power of 18kW. Range of AWACS-sized target detection is supposed to be 400km. The thingie should be able to track 60 contacts and simultaneously attack 16. Possibly there will be a rear-facing radar, some aerials on wings and a 360° optical tracking suite. Supposedly T-50 has 2 bays for large missiles up to 700kg, and 2 bays for short range missiles. Total load might be up to 12 missiles. The new missile for the plane is a further development of R-33 (think Phoenix) and is believed to be able to hit high-RCS target at 400km Then they have R-77 developments for 250km range and 110-140km, with home-on-jam capability. For short range they plan on something hyper-maneuvarable with IR image recognition capable of hitting incoming missiles. 2 ton ordnance weight for stealth flight, 6 tons non-stealth. GSh-30 cannon for short range. Bearing in mind Raptor order drop, the author goes on to estimate that we'll receive about 240 planes (50% of officially planned order). And calls F-35 no match for T-50. That's the gist of it. No, I don't have FM or manual for it My predicition: the generation after this will have a ****load of AI-launched counter-missiles. the generation after this will be either nuke-only or go for AI-conrolled gun combat. Then anime will be consideded documentary.

				TRANSONIC WAVE !
Gr.Viper replied to Kulbit80's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Isn't this sonic boom caused by the evaporation of water from the aiframe? Ah... that's what it's called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prandtl%E2%80%93Glauert_singularity -

				TRANSONIC WAVE !
Gr.Viper replied to Kulbit80's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
When did he say that? The only thing better that the transsonic wave is the supersonic wave. Test flights on Tu-22 revealed that if it flies supersonic below 4000m the brickwork on the ground cracks. -
