Been away for a wee time
Fubar512 replied to russouk2004's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Welcome back, Russ. -
And remember Boyz n Girlz, aiming for the turrets, and applying a bit of TLAR judiciously to the elevation settings, should result in your opponent ending up with "Limp Gun Syndrome"

The game is player-centric, in that the player usually beats the AI. For example, I sank Scharnhorst using the Queen Elizabeth several times, and suffered zero damage during the encounter! Yet, when the roles were reversed, I usually sank the QE using the Scharnhorst. It'd be cool if the developers offered an upgraded version of the game, with additional ships. Such as the South Dakota-class BBs*, the older US BBs (such as the USS Texas and Neveda) that took part in convoy escort and shore bombardments, and of course, HMS Vanguard. Vanguard had better protection and fire control than the KG Vs (and since the Lion-class BBs were essentially stretched KG Vs, we must include them in this discussion). If only Vanguard had been completed in 1943 as originally planned... *As a side note, even the then brand-new USS Iowa was staged to Argentia, Newfoundland at one point during the war, to counter against the Tirpitz breaking out into the Atlantic shipping lanes.

The 1060 reportedly bests the 980 in a few titles: Unfortunately, my 7-year old LG Flatron-22 (1680 x 1050) is dying. I'm looking at this piece of kit to replace it: (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B17C5KO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER0). The fact that it's "only" 1080P does not bother me at all.

Astronomers have announced that they have discovered an earth-sized planet orbiting the sun's nearest neighbor, Proxima Centauri (which in turn is itself a "third" member of the Alpha Centauri binary star system). Anyway, at 4.24 light years distance, it'll take a while before Virgin Galactic begins regularly scheduled service there http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/scientists-find-earth-like-planet-circling-suns-nearest-neighbour/ar-BBw03po?OCID=ansmsnnews11

The default is for the installer to merge all titles. All the terrains aircraft, and ground objects will then be available from within SF2, You can install all your mods into that one title's mod folder, and you'll be able to access everything from there. Load times depend on the terrain, objects (number, complexity, etc.), that you select. The only issue is that your gfx card is a bit weak for the most recent models and terrain sets. Also, how is the external drive being accessed? Is it through USB 2, USB 3, or external SATA? I would opt for at least the last two.

Temps while playing Atlantic Fleet. Granted, not a title which really stresses hardware, but a good indicator as to how effective the Hyper 212 Evo is at cooling. Not bad for a $30 piece of kit (plus the cost of an extra fan).

Well, it's been two years since I built this system, and I felt that it was time for a mid-cycle refresh. The Pentium G3258 has served me well, though it was starting to hit its ceiling when I started encoding video. I decided it was more cost effective to replace the processor. Rather than spending $500-600 on on a new mainboard, DDR 4 RAM, and a Skylake CPU, I went with an I-7 4790K. An i7-6700 Skylake-based system might have given me perhaps a 7% improvement over the Haswell-based 4790K, in benchmarks, but we all know how that goes... Next month, if my finances allow, I may splurge on a GTX 1060.

We ran a test to prove that everything in the SF world was of proper relative size a few years ago, by placing a ship on open water, centering its return blip on an aircraft's radar, and then flying that aircraft towards it at a carefully controlled speed and timing the event with a stop-watch. It took pretty much the exact time that it should have, given a 600-knot closure rate, so speeds in this series pretty much reflect those in the real-world. What's off in the SF world are the terrain maps, which are roughly at 60% scale.

If one of our 3D specialists decides to create one, then good for you. Otherwise, you can always bone up on creating such things on your own (even using freeware apps such as blender), and then have someone with the proper version of 3ds Max import, animate, and export them to *.lod format for you, if they're willing.

Non recognized gpu
Fubar512 replied to other444's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The easiest solution, is to disable the Intel integrated graphics in your system's BIOS, thereby forcing all applications to use your discrete GPU. -
I have fractured my left ankle twice since I was 16. The first time was during varsity football practice, and the most recent one was stepping onto a friend's boat and right onto a spare propeller shaft that we had lashed to the deck. Almost 42 years after the first incident, and it still bothers me, especially during the Winter. I can "feel" a storm coming almost a full day before it arrives. Anyway, just follow the doctor's advice, and get better soon!

LOL, no. In fact, the captain went on to mention that his co-pilot was soon due for promotion to captain.
-
I recall once hearing an announcement after we had landed at Houston Hobby airport, crediting the co-pilot with a smooth landing. The pilot went on to say "That's really unusual for a former Naval aviator."

I am glad that you brought the term "sports car" into the thread. The Espada, and its ilk, are not sports cars. They are true GT (Grand Touring) cars, Here's what the Wikipedia has to say about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_tourer

Ah, no. If you think that's the case, you seriously need to have your eyes checked.

That business is what made Ferruccio Lamborghini's fortune. He certainly did not do well (financially) building automobiles.
-
Mention the name Lamborghini, and the first thing that may come to mind is an Aventador, or a Mulcielago, or a Countach. If you're approaching my age, you may possibly even visualize a Miura. But to me, this is the one that personifies Ferruccio Lamborghini's vision of a fast, comfortable, grand touring car. The Espada. I'll take mine in dark metallic blue Here's Jay Leno's take on the Espada:

Strike Fighters 2 simulator?
Fubar512 replied to Sabro's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Well then, perhaps you can start by defining precisely what it is that you are looking for. I have also have IL-2 1946, and I find that SF2's jet aircraft flight dynamics are superior. -
Strike Fighters 2 simulator?
Fubar512 replied to Sabro's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Under options, game play, set the default view point to "Cockpit", the display unit to "Use Default Unit based on aircraft type". set the Enemy skill level to either medium or hard, and the sim difficulty to hard. Note that you will still have the speed/altitude/heading info on the L/H mini HUD. You can hide this with an .ini mod if you wish. -
I am sure that this is not staged, as the original "Hemi Under Glass" is probably worth close to $1 million US. Of course, Jay was his jovial self afterwards...

Hovercraft full of eels = mobile bait storage vessel = modern day alchemy. I will show you how to convert live eels into striped bass.
