  1. [Fictional] Douglas A-4D Skyhawk (Dhimar)

Douglas A-4D Skyhawk for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire A-4E Skyhawk to give a flyable A-4D (Dhimar) in service with the Dhimari Air Force with markings for;
    No.6 Squadron - 'The Eagles'
    No.7 Squadron - 'The Rattlesnakes'

    BACKSTORY
During the early to mid-1950's almost every US Navy aircraft programme hit some sort of propulsion trouble with either engines that were either down on thrust or simply so unreliable that they were a hazard to flight safety. Douglas were no exception and the SkyKnight and Skyray programmes were hit especially hard and the A4D Skyhawk programme initially didn't fare much better with the J65 down on thrust and the Pentagon bizarrely ordering that reconditioned Air Force J65's should be used for Skyhawk production. Ed Heinemann's wish to shoehorn the Rolls-Royce Avon into the Skyhawk fell apart when a production licence was granted to Westinghouse who then decided to only produce (with Navy funding but without telling Douglas ) a six-tenths scale version as the XJ64 giving less thrust than the J65!
However, by 1955 the Navy BuWeps had decided to fund the promising Pratt & Whitney JT8, essentially a scaled-down JT3 or J57 and by 1957 the resultant J52 was running sweetly on the bench and Ed Heinemann could plan growth versions of his brilliant 'Bantam Bomber'. At about the same time the Navy were hinting that perhaps a more flexible machine was required than the high-altitude nuclear bomber of the original A4D requirement and the increased thrust of the J52 meant that two more stores pylons could be added and higher gross weights permitted.
Douglas had planned to introduce the engine in the A4D-3 (A-4D) and A4D-5 (A-4E) variants but the US Navy cancelled the A4D-3 in 1959 and slowed the A4D-5 programme down. Douglas then looked at export opportunities resurrecting the A4D-3 designation to produce a multi-role fighter version later designated the A-4D which introduced the new J52 engine rated at 8,500lbs thrust plus a small and simple multi-mode radar. Oil-rich Dhimar became the launch customer ordering 60 A-4D's in 1961 and these were delivered in early 1963 initially to No.6 Squadron of the Dhimari Air Force who operated the type until 1982.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the A-4Dh folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the A-4Dh folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS

Special thanks to salvatorestupido for the USN Aggressor skin used for the No.7 Squadron machine.

  2. [Fictional] F-105D 'Shalakh' (Osprey) for SF2

    F-105D for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-105D Thunderchief to give a fictional F-105D 'Shalakh' (Osprey) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for;
107 Squadron - 'The Knights of the Orange Tail'
    119 Squadron - 'The Bat'
    253 Squadron - 'The Negev'
This should work in any SF2 game featuring the stock Third Wire F-105D but has only been tested in a merged install of SF2/SF2V/SF2E/SF2I.

    BACKSTORY
During the early 1960's Defence Secretary Robert S. McNamara and his team of whiz-kids were on a mission to streamline the US defence budget with 'commonality' being their main area of focus. With the F-4 Phantom now being procured for the USAF as well as for the USN and USMC and with the TFX (F-111) project promising further cost savings it appeared that the two aircraft had the home tactical fighter market covered. So it was no surprise when in October 1963 Republic Aviation were formally ordered to cease further development of the F-105 Thunderchief and to stop production after the current batch of F-105D's and F-105F's.
In early 1964 the Heyl Ha'Avir (Israeli Air Force) were looking for a replacement for the Vautour tactical bomber and openly expressed a preference for the UK's Blackburn Buccaneer. With the end of the Thunderchief production line looming, and with no follow-on project in the immediate pipeline, Republic Aviation proposed a modified version of the Thunderchief F-105D to the Heyl Ha'Avir at a very attractive price and this was eagerly accepted.
With the last USAF F-105D's and F-105F's going through the door production continued with the main production batch of 100 F-105D-35RE aircraft (essentially similar to the F-105D-31-RE but with some Heyl Ha'Avir specified equipment) and powered by the Pratt & Whitney J75-P20W engine rated at 26,500lbs of thrust with reheat. Deliveries of the first F-105D-35-RE aircraft to Israel began in early 1967 and the type soon gained the local name of 'Shalakh' (Osprey). As a happy consequence, the USAF ordered more F-105D's and F-105F's as attrition replacements for Vietnam and this kept the Thunderchief production line open until December 1968.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-105Didf folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-105Didf folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

  3. [Fictional] F-84H 'Sharav' for SF2:Europe

    F-84H for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:EUROPE
    This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-84F to give a fictional F-84H 'Sharav' of the Israeli Air Force with markings for;
    No.101 Squadron (Camo)
    No.107 Squadron (Silver)
    No.140 Squadron (Camo)
    No.201 Squadron (Silver)
    No.201 Squadron (Silver c/w sharkmouth)
This should work in a stand alone SF2:Europe game (featuring the stock Third Wire F-84F) but has only been tested in a merged install of SF2/SF2V/SF2E/SF2I/SF2NA.

    BACKSTORY
The Israeli Air Force had looked at purchasing the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak as early as 1952 but teething problems with the troublesome Wright J65 jet engine delayed a firm order until March 1955 when 36 F-84H's were ordered with deliveries starting in August 1955 with No.107 squadron becoming the first unit to re-equip with this tough and popular fighter-bomber.
After seeing service in the ill-fated 1956 Suez conflict another batch of 36 F-84H's were ordered and the type eventually equipped four squadrons and took part in the 1967 'Six-Day' war gaining a fearsome reputation as a
low-level attack aircraft. However the two squadrons that were still equipped with the type at the start of the 1973 'Yom Kippur' war suffered heavy losses over the Sinai Peninsula and the type was withdrawn from service by the end of year.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-84H folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-84H folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

  9. [Fictional] RAF SEPECAT Jaguar FGR.3

SEPECAT Jaguar FGR.3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the excellent 'The Mirage Factory' Jaguar GR.1 to give a 'what if' Jaguar FGR.3 tactical fighter with markings for No.45 and No.58 squadrons of No.38 Group, RAF Strike Command. This revision now also includes a desert camo skin for No.112 squadron and uses a revised 3D model.

    BACKSTORY
In 1974 a cancelled export order for 50 Jaguar Internationals left the SEPECAT consortium with a headache as many 'long lead' items had already been ordered and assembly was already underway on the first 12 airframes. At this time the RAF were keen to order more Jaguars to form a second wing of No.38 Group, RAF Strike Command and, with the delays in the Tornado production programme meaning a shortage of work at BAC's Warton factory,  BAC pushed the Labour government into accepting a deal for all 50 aircraft. Some consideration was given to standardising the aircraft to match the RAF's GR.1 force but the uprated Adour engines and different avionics saw the aircraft confusingly designated as the Jaguar FGR.3.
Entering service in early 1977 the Jaguar FGR.3's served with No.45 and No.58 squadrons as part of No.38 Group and also with a reformed No.112 Squadron detached to RAF Near East Air Force. The FGR.3's uprated Adour engines and early introduction of overwing missile rails made them something of an elite element within the RAF's Jaguar force and they were deployed to many hot-spots around the world until their somewhat premature retirement in 2002.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the JaguarFGR3 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the JaguarFGR3 folder into your Decals folder.
    3. Empty the contents of the WEAPONS folder into your Weapons folder
    4. Empty the contents of the PILOTS folder into your main Pilots folder.
    5. From the SOUNDS folder drag and drop the Adour sound file into your Sounds folder.

  10. [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.3

McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Phantom F-4E (early - short cannon muzzle fairing)  to create a fictional Phantom FGR.3 in service with the Royal Air Force in the 1969-1972 timeline with markings for No.6 and No.112 squadrons of RAF Middle East Command as they might have appeared during this period when deployed to Dhimar. Both squadrons have an association with the Middle East and Desert areas with No.6 Squadron being 'The Flying Tin Openers' whilst No.112 Squadron were famous for being the RAF's 'sharkmouth' squadron.

  12. [Fictional] RAF Phantom FGR.5 for SF2

McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.5 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a simple mod of the Third Wire Phantom F-4E_72 to give a 'what if' Phantom FGR.5 tactical fighter with markings for No.6, No.41 and No.54 squadrons of RAF Strike Command as they might have appeared during the mid-1970's.

    BACKSTORY

    (Just a bit of fun).

The cancellation of the Hawker P.1154 in 1964 led to the adoption of the LTV F-8E(RN) Crusader for the Royal Navy to replace the Scimitar and Sea Vixen and the adoption of the standard J79 powered F-4C Phantom for the RAF to replace the Hunter. However, anxious to improve the UK's trade balance with the US the UK Government insisted that the RAF's Phantoms would adopt either the Rolls Royce Spey turbofan or the Anglo-French Rolls Royce/SNECMA Sequanna turbofan then under development for the proposed Mirage IVB and advanced Mirage III aircraft. The Sequanna was quickly chosen being lighter and slimmer than the Spey and fitted the F-4 like a glove whilst producing about 1,000lbs more thrust per engine than the stock J79-GE-15 turbojet but having a much lower specific fuel consumption.

First flown in 1965 and entering service with the RAF in 1966 the Phantom F.1 supplemented the Lightning interceptors of RAF Fighter Command whilst the Phantom FG.2 re-equipped many Hunter and Canberra squadrons at home and abroad. The FR.3 was a planned version of the RF-4C that failed to materialise as the RAF adopted a reconnaisance system but the FGR.4 was the RAF's first true multi-role version of the Phantom and took advantage of the new F-4E airframe and a more powerful Sequanna RB.390 engine developing 19,000lbs with reheat. Only 50 FGR.4's were built before production switched to the FGR.5
featured here with Sequanna RB.392 engines rated at 20,000 lbs of thrust and more advanced avionics. The FGR.5's served both at home and abroad before finally being retired in 2001.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Drop the Phantom_FGR5 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. Empty the contents of the Weapons folder into your Weapons folder

    3. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder.

  13. [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas Phantom F.6

McDonnell Douglas Phantom F.6 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Phantom F-4E_72 to give a 'what if' Phantom F.6 interceptor-fighter with markings for No.19 and No.92 squadrons of RAF Germany as they might have appeared during the mid-1970's through to the end of the 1980's. I've decided to use some new sounds and effects (still Third Wire stock) but if you haven't got SF2:Europe then you will need to revert back to the bog standard 'jet engine' sound and normal F4 afterburner effects.

    BACKSTORY

Following on from the success of the FGR.4 and FGR.5 the Phantom F.6 was essentially an interim design that used the FGR.5 airframe and Rolls-Royce Sequanna RB.410 series engines but with a slightly improved radar and avionics. Designed to give RAF Germany a Lightning F.2A replacement the F.6 had no air-to-ground capability whatsoever and was therefore slightly lighter and had a slightly improved flight performance. The F.6 also introduced the Skyflash missiles planned for the definitive F.7 version and whilst some consideration was given to upgrading the F.6's with the F.7's more powerful Sequanna RB.450 series engines this came to nothing but, nevertheless, the two RAF Germany F.6 squadrons were a vital component of the NATO Central Sector and were only rivalled by the F-15's of the 36th TFW at Bitburg. The F.6's remained in service until 1994.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Drop the Phantom_F6 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. Empty the contents of the Weapons folder into your Weapons folder (this simply gives the Skyflash an earlier 'in service' date).

    3. Sprinkle the contents of the Decals folder into your main Decals folder.

This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Phantom F-4E_72 to give a 'what if' Phantom F.7 interceptor-fighter with markings for No.5 and No.11 squadrons based at RAF Binbrook in Lincolnshire as they might have appeared during the 1980's and into the 1990's. I've decided to use some new sounds and effects (still Third Wire stock) but if you haven't got SF2:Europe then you will need to revert back to the bog standard 'jet engine' sound and normal F4 afterburner effects.

definitive F.7 introduced the more powerful Sequanna RB.450 series engines rated at 22,500lbs thrust with reheat and gave the RAF a superb replacement for the Lightning and the earlier Phantom F.1's. Entering service in 1975 the F.7's
equipped eight home-based squadrons, an adversary squadron based at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus and also equipped two squadrons based at RAF Stanley in the Falkand Islands before finally being retired in 2005

    INSTRUCTIONS

As this mod uses the early 'short cannon' F-4E I have restricted the service dates to 1968 to 1973 inclusive. At some time in the future I'll get a later Dhimari F-4E sorted.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4E_Dh folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4E_Dh folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  16. [Fictional] Lockheed Starfighter F.1

Lockheed Starfighter F.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:Europe
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-104G to give a 'what if' Starfighter F.1 interceptor-fighter with markings for No.56 and No.74 squadrons of RAF Fighter Command as they might have appeared during the mid-1960's through to the mid-1970's.
This mod requires you to have SF2E for the F-104G LODs which are, of course, NOT included here.

    BACKSTORY
With no Hunter replacement on the horizon and with the Lightning programme progressing slowly (and being clearly of no use in the tactical fighter role) the RAF suddenly became interested in the F-104-7 (later renamed F-104G) Starfighter programme during 1958 and in April 1959 followed West Germany in ordering the type as the Starfighter F.1 for air defence and the Starfighter FGA.2 as a tactical fighter for both RAF Germany and also for No.38 Group.
The F.1 for RAF Fighter Command was the initial production version and these were manufactured by Canadair and were powered by the Orenda-built J79 OEL-9 engine developing 10,500lbs of thrust dry and 16,000lbs of thrust with reheat. Entering service with No.56 Squadron in early 1962 the Starfighter F.1 introduced the Firestreak infra-red homing air-to-air missile and also the Skylance radar-guided air-to-air missile (based on the American Sparrow) carried on underwing pylons.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the StarfighterF1 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the StarfighterF1 folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the two folders into your Weapons folder.
    That's it!

Special thanks to bobrock for the excellent F-104G template used here for the skin and the specular maps.
Thanks to Russo for the Firestreak air-to-air missile from his superb Lightning F.6 (check it out) included here in case you haven't got access to the Third Wire one.

Lockheed Starfighter F.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:Europe
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-104G to give a 'what if' Starfighter F.2 interceptor-fighter with markings for ten classic 1960's RAF Fighter Command squadrons - mainly real world Lightning squadrons but with No.43 Squadron added in as they were a famous interceptor squadron in the Phantom era. The service dates are confined to 1963 to 1969 but you can easily edit this to suit your tastes.
    RAF Squadrons covered; 5, 11, 19, 23, 29, 43, 56, 74, 92, 111.

    INSTRUCTIONS

  20. [Fictional] Aero L.23 Czechoslovak Jet Fighter

Aero  L.23 'Furball' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:EUROPE
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Dassault Super Mystere to give a very fictional Aero L.23 (NATO codename 'Furball') with markings for the Czechoslovak Air Force, the East German Air Force and also for the Polish Air Force - all within a 1958 to 1981 timeline. The markings are pretty generic and I've used stock Third Wire serials and numbers lists.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Aero_L23 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Aero_L23 folder into your Decals folder.

  21. [Fictional] Republic Aviation F-84J Thunderstreak

Republic F-84J Thunderstreak for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:EUROPE
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-84F to give a fictional F-84J Thunderstreak of the Finnish Ilmavoimat (Finnish Air Force) with markings for Fighter Squadron 11 and Fighter Squadron 31.

    BACKSTORY
With Finland being ever anxious to maintain it's neutrality it was surprising that in June 1954 the Finnish government elected to purchase the Republic Thunderstreak F-84J. However, in typically Finnish fashion the purchase of 40 F-84J's was organised via the Swedish government and the aircraft chosen could hardly be called 'state of the art' being essentially a warmed-up F-84F Thunderstreak with the General Electric J73-GE5EX engine (non-afterburning and rated at 9,000lbs thrust) shoehorned in. No munitions were supplied and SAAB were chosen to prepare the aircraft for Ilmavoimat service with four British Hispano V 20mm cannon replacing the six 0.5 calibre machine guns of the standard F-84F and giving the F-84J a strong 'neutral' flavour throughout, even to the extent of carrying mainly British, Swedish or Soviet weapons. Entering service with HavLLv31 in 1956 the aircraft equipped two squadrons and at least gave the Ilmavoimat a taste of a 'modern' swept-wing fighter although the F-84J was certainly no F-86 Sabre and, presumably, that was the whole point!

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-84J folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-84J folder into your main Decals folder.
    That's it!!

  22. [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4L (USMC)

McDonnell Douglas F-4L (USMC/USN) Phantom for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4M_75 to give a fictional USMC Phantom F-4L with markings for VMFA-333 'Shamrocks'. Also included is a USN VF-111 scheme that generally uses stock decals but is included here to give a blank F-4L tail for you to do other squadrons by using stock decals. It goes without saying that you will need to have the F-4M_75 from SF2:Europe.

    BACKSTORY
With all the considerable design effort being put into the marriage of the Phantom airframe and the Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engine McDonnell Douglas thought it might be a good idea to propose a version to the US Navy to allow the Phantom to operate from the smaller carriers that were limited to F-8E Crusaders. In June 1966 the designation F-4L was given to the proposed Spey-powered Phantom and in October 1966 an initial order for 130 F-4L's (USN/USMC) was made, followed by an unexpected export order of 30 F-4L's for the Royal Australian Navy.
Deliveries to the US Navy commenced in February 1969 with VF-24 becoming the first operational squadron followed by VMFA-333. By this time the wisdom of operating such a relatively large aircraft on the older, smaller carriers was being questioned and most F-4L's served aboard the larger carriers or with land-based units.
When the decision was made not to re-equip the USMC 'fighter-attack' Phantom squadrons with the hugely expensive Grumman F-14A Tomcat, McDonnell Douglas pushed hard for low-rate production of the F-4L to continue specifically for USMC use and they were eventually successful meaning that production continued until 1976 with an eventual total of 306 F-4L's being built. Apart from Australia, F-4L's also served with the Royal Air Force where 15 ex-USN F-4L's were sold to the UK Government to allow the formation of an additional home-based Phantom squadron to release a squadron for the defence of the Falkand Isles.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4L_75 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4L_75 folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

  24. McDonnell Douglas F4H-1 'Project High Jump'

McDonnell Douglas F4H-1 'Project High Jump' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a simple mod of the stock F-4B to give a representation of one of the most famous Phantoms of all time - F4H-1 149449 that was used to set eight 'time-to-climb' records during early 1962 at NAS Brunswick, Maine and at NAS Point Mugu, California.

Most books on the Phantom make reference to this astonishing series of record-breaking flights (even more remarkable as they were production machines and not stripped down prototypes) and there are some good articles on the interweb too.

    N.B. Stopwatch not included!

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4B_PHJ folder into your Aircraft folder.

  25. [Fictional] Gloster Javelin F.Mk56 'Dhanush'

Gloster Javelin F.Mk56 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the Veltro2K's superb Gloster Javelin to give a fictional Javelin F.Mk56 'Dhanush' of the Indian Air Force with markings for the equally fictitious No.36 'Trishula' squadron and, in this revised upload, I've also included markings for No.14 Squadron (Bulls).

    BACKSTORY
The expansion of the Indian Air Force during the mid-1950's saw the planned procurement of the Hawker Hunter fighter-bomber and the English Electric Canberra bomber in substantial quantities but Indian Air Force planners saw the lack of an all-weather interceptor as a problem and urged the Indian Government for increased funds for a suitable aircraft. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru initially blocked the idea but soon agreed to allow a delegation from the Gloster Aviation Company to make a presentation to the Indian Government and the Chiefs of the Indian Air Force.
With the end of the Javelin production line looming Gloster were proposing two new export version of the Javelin Mk8 to India -  the F.Mk55 (Sapphire-enginned) and F.Mk56 (Avon-enginned) versions. Indian Air Force chiefs were very enthusiastic about the possibility of having its three main combat aircraft use the same jet engine (albeit the Javelin's Mk.205 Avon engines had a simple afterburner fitted) and urged Nehru to proceed with the purchase of 80 aircaft but Nehru demanded to meet the Gloster delegation himself to thrash out terms. Gloster cannily sent Graeme Kimmage, who had attended Cambridge University with Nehru, to conduct the negotiations and eventually secure a deal for 80 Javelin F.Mk56's.
Entering service with No.36 'Trishula' squadron based at Pathankot in 1958 the Javelins only really became a complete weapon system when mated with the indigenous 'Baan' (Arrow) air-to-air missile which entered service in 1960. From this time the Javelins quickly earned the most appropriate nickname of 'Dhanush' (bow) and saw  limited service over Goa (in the recconnaisance role) but played a major role in the 1965 war with Pakistan claiming several kills including three F-86's, one F-104 and six B-57's. However, with the MiG-21 entering service the Javelin's days were numbered and the Javelin force slowly faded away and by 1975 the popular and legendary 'Dhanush' had gone for good.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Javelin56 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Javelin56 folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the 'BAAN' and 'TANK300_JAV' folders to your Weapons folder.
    That's it!
