Previous 'urgent operational requirement' program adds targeting pod (Litening), GPS navigation, GBU-12 and JDAM capability for OEF deployment. Background (all factual): In mid 1964 Operational Requirement No. 5/Air called for a tactical combat aircraft to replace the Canberra. Specifically a long range aircraft with the primary role of counter-air/interdiction and secondary roles of close air support and air defense. In June 1965 The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Morrison was quoted as wanting 18 F-111 aircraft for the RNZAF at a cost of £1.5 million per aircraft. The public and media supported the idea but the Chief of Defense Staff (who was a Naval Officer) and the acting Prime Minister publicly opposed the purchase. In August 1965 the Chiefs of Staff Committee rejected the idea of acquiring long-range interdiction aircraft and in September agreed that close air support should be the primary role of the new combat aircraft. In December came Air Staff Requirement No. 12 with the following requirements of the new combat aircraft: - Ability to provide effective air support to ground forces. - Highly reliable and robust - Self defense capability to evade or counter supersonic interceptors and surface-to-air missiles. - Long range. - Ability to operate closely with American and Australian forces. By May 1966 the RNZAF had finished evaluating six candidate aircraft: - F-4C Phantom II - A-7A Corsair II - Mirage IIIO - F-5A Freedom Fighter - F-104G Starfighter - A-4E Skyhawk In August 1966 the RNZAF officially asked the government to purchase 16 F-4 Phantoms at a total cost of £19 million. Now remember AVM Morrison making it known he wanted the F-111? He would later go on to admit he never wanted the F-111 he had wanted the F-4 all along but given the cost of the F-4 he wanted to make it look more attractive (cost wise) by putting it next to the F-111. The minister of Defense then announced the final stage of the evaluation had been reached and a decision was a few weeks away. The purchase of the F-4 seemed to be all but done... BUT the Treasury department now intervened and recommended purchasing the F-5! The RNZAF High Command was furious! But ultimately powerless to halt the path to purchasing the A-4 Skyhwak that had just begun. Over the next year the RNZAF, Cabinet Defense Committee, Treasury, the Finance Minister and the Chief of Defense wrangled over purchasing the F-4 or an alternative (F-5 or A-4). Then at the end of 1967 the New Zealand Currency was devalued and a squadron of F-4 Phantoms was now instantly out of New Zealand’s price range. It was either 11 Phantoms or 16 Skyhawks. So the Skyhawk it was. So if the Treasury Department hadn't intervened in the procurement process towards the end of 1966 it seems entirely likely that New Zealand would have placed and order for the F-4 Phantom II at the end of that year. Or once the NZ dollar devalued in 1967 the option of an initial 11 F-4E order followed by another 5 in 5 years was considered, which I have gone for here.

Based on the official McDonnell Douglas report/ sales pitch dated September 1970 detailing the specifications for the proposed F-4E(F) Air Superiority Fighter for the West German Luftwaffe: Included: - F-4E(F) Gameplay notes: - Due to its lower empty weight this aircraft is slightly faster, more maneuverable, has quicker acceleration and a lower stalling speed than a standard statted or hard wing F-4E. - It has a slightly lower (according to McDonnell's specifications,) stalling speed than the F-4F. - The radar (APG-120) is the same model as on the F-8E Crusader so has a lower performance than the radar on the F-4E/F with no AIM-7 capability. Cockpit radar display and radar range lights have been changed match the APG-120 radar. - Rear cockpit is empty with no WSO or controls etc. If you read the McDonnell report the ability to fit the cockpit controls, displays and ejection seat was to be retained if required. 6. From the album Strike Fighters Royal Air Force

TMF F4K model and textures. There are some glitches, the 370ltr wing drop tanks are missing textures as are all the wing hardpoints and the fuselage centreline hardpoint. When I jettisoned the tanks the starboard hardpoint went with the tank as it should do with a Sergeant Fletcher tank but the port one did not as can be seen in the iverted shot. Any ideas anyone while I investigate further? XT597 was the last UK Phantom to fly being withdrawn from service in 1994 two years after the RAF retired theirs. Using two different bespoke design radomes XT597 was used on various trials support tasks noteably in flight airspeed calibration of other aircraft. XT597 is now in the hands of Everett Aero awaiting sale.

For the F-4E Phantom II - ARN (86). Mobius Squadron, part of the 118th Tactical Fighter Wing, was a fighter squadron comprised of pilots from the Independent State Allied Force's Air Force. The squadron saw active service during the 2003–2005 Second Usean Continental War. Its ace pilot, Mobius 1, rose to prominence and became the flight leader of the squadron around the start of ISAF's counteroffensive in late 2004. Around the time of ISAF's evacuation from the Usean mainland, Mobius 1 was the sole member of Mobius Squadron; whether this was by design or the result of losing squadmates during the Erusians' initial offensive remains unknown. Beginning with the ISAF's Operation Umbrella in September 2004, Mobius 1 quickly established himself as an ace, downing six Erusian Tu-95 Bear bombers and their escort fighters over Newfield Island. Over the course of the war, Mobius 1's accomplishments would inspire confidence in his allies and fear in his enemies. The full Mobius Squadron—under Mobius 1's command—was later formed by merging several other ISAF squadrons. On September 26, 2005, one week after the official armistice, ISAF dispatched the newly assembled Mobius Squadron to the Twinkle Islands to destroy Megalith, an Erusian superweapon capable of shooting down orbiting asteroid fragments. Mobius Squadron engaged and shot down the Erusians’ Megalith defence squadron before moving on to the rocket-launch facility. Through the combined efforts of Mobius Squadron and the special forces unit, ISAF was victorious once again, and Megalith was destroyed. Which addon(s) are required? File Name: SF2_F-4E_Austere_HUD File Submitter: Crusader File Submitted: 22 July 2017 File Category: Avionics F-4E_75_AHUD (Austere HUD) mod The real Austere HUD modification has been tested on F-4E 68-0304 during 1974-76. The goal was to have a better sight display, primarily for air to air combat. Further modifications were made to the radar for a quicker boresight lock-on and new dogfight scan modes. The Austere HUD modification remained a F-4E test and didnt went into production aircraft or upgrades. Ive re-created the Austere HUD, using the TW F-4E_75 (required for the mod to work). Ive used the Wraparound desert skin for stock F-4E by amariani http://combatace.com/files/file/12057-wraparound-desert-skin-for-stock-f-4e/ for a quick "make it fly" setup (we dont have a proper Edwards Test Unit white with red trimmings skin) The real Austere HUD was a test setup, so its no problem to add/remove readouts to the HUD modes to ones personal liking. Background on the Rivet Haste project: With the soft (slatted) wing, the pinkie switch (basically the very first HOTAS), and the TISEO modifications for the F-4E, the USAF realized it had the tools to make its fighter pilots more lethal. In the late summer of 1972, the Rivet Haste program was established. Rivet Haste would be the Air Force's acknowledgement that years of substandard training and poor doctrine had to be reversed. Rivet Haste combined the slatted wing, TISEO, and 556 mod of the F-4E and teamed them up with handpicked crews with combat experience over Vietnam. They were assembled at Nellis AFB and here the key of Rivet Haste would take place- intensive training with the new F-4Es against the secret MiG force that Air Force flew out of Tonopah north of Las Vegas. Each Rivet Haste crew were paired up to stay together through training to deployment for combat- this allowed the pilot and his WSO to develop their own system of coordination in the cockpit and carry that to combat. Six pilots and six WSOs were in each Rivet Haste group and each pilot/WSO would fly at least three missions against the MiGs at Tonopah. Each month, a new group of six pilots and six WSOs were assigned to Rivet Haste. Crews assigned to Rivet Haste saw it as a quantum leap in air combat training that the USAF had never had before. Unfortunately they arrived in Vietnam to late to score any air-to air-kills and only flew a handful of Linebacker II missions before the end of the war. Click here to download this file

  15. File Name: F-4T Phantom II Air Superiority Fighter - Ghost Grey Phantoms File Submitter: dtmdragon File Submitted: 25 May 2016 File Category: What If Hangar F-4T Phantom II Air Superiority Fighter 1.0 The F-4T was a late 1970s proposal by McDonnell for a stripped F-4E optimized for the air superiority role. All air-to-ground capability was to be eliminated and associated equipment removed. The armament consisting solely of the built-in M61A1 cannon, the four belly-mounted AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, and the four wing-mounted AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, or an alternative warload of six AIM-7. A digital computer was to have handled the weapons system. By the late 1970s, the Phantom was clearly old technology, and no customers ever expressed any interest in the F-4T. The project was abandoned before anything could be built. It was never clear but it was suspected that the proposal had been aimed at a particular potential export customer. BUT what if the F-4T had entered production, either in foreign service, or to supplement the F-15A, or even as a potential alternative to the F-16A ADF? And so I give you the F-4T Phantom II Air Superiority Fighter: - Base aircraft is the 'F-4E_79 TISEO & ARN-101' from Ravenclaw and co’s awesome F-4E USAF pack. - Deleted all air to ground weapons capability. - Each inner wing weapon station can carry either 2x AIM-9 or 1x AIM-7 or an ECM pod. - Empty weight, empty inertia and stall speed lowered to that of the stripped out Third Wire F-4F. This makes it probably the most maneuverable and best dogfighting F-4 Phantom models, other than the IAF Super Kurnass 2000 prototype. - Retained AN/ARN-101 antenna for long range navigation. - Retained TISEO for target identification. - Higher 'G' HPC center drop tank. - Cleaned up the ‘noises’ and shadows on the radar display to better represent the digital filtering of the Digital Scan Converter Group (DSCG) radar display later model F-4E were equipped with. - Added Pulse Doppler look-down function to the AN/APG-120 radar, as later model F-4E Phantom’s upgraded with the AN/AWG-10A digital fire control computer had this feature. - Changed the gunsight reticle to the green and red colored AN/ASG-26A which was also used on the F-4G Wild Weasel. - Ghost Grey Air Superiority camouflage scheme. - Changed the fiscal year component of the serial numbers to the late 70's: 77, 78 or 79. Included in this mod are: - F-4T Phantom II - 9 different USAF, ANG and AFRES skins. - 7 different USAF, ANG and AFRES squadrons. - High resolution Ghost Grey camo F-4E PSD templates - F-4T hanger & loading screens To Install simply un pack and drop into your mods folder. The RAN proposed the acquisition of Essex class carriers to the Government in 1964 to replace the Majestic class HMAS Melbourne. The aircraft the RAN proposed was the F-4B Phantom. Operating an F-4B from the relatively small deck of an Essex class carrier is problematic, to say the least. On the other hand, the F-4K Phantom modifications would enable the operation of a Phantom from such a small deck. The F-4K entered service in 1969. Three squadrons operated the Phantom; 805 Squadron, which operated from HMAS Melbourne; 808 Squadron, which operated from HMAS Sydney; and 724 Squadron, which conducted the RAN's Phantom training from HMAS Albatross in Nowra, NSW. Both 805 and 808 Squadrons were homeported at HMAS Albatross. They initially served beside the RAN's A-4E Skyhawks. From 1972, the Phantom's counterpart was the A-7E Corsair II. They served in the Vietnam War protecting supply convoys to North Vietnam to aid its fight against the Fascist regime in the South. They subsequently served in the Gulf War of 1995. After the war, the F-4K was replaced by the McDonnell Douglas FV-16C Wraith STOVL fighter. The F-4K remained in service until 1995. They were delivered in 1969, and served with two squadrons, 805 Squadron, which was the operational squadron embarked on HMAS Melbourne, and 724 Squadron, which served as a training unit. Both were homeported at HMAS Albatross in Nowra, NSW. Where necessary, additional training was provided in RAAF Phantom FGR.22s with 2 OCU at RAAF Williamtown. The RAN's Phantom FG.21s served with Commonwealth forces in the Far East and the Indian Ocean for many years, including sporadic skirmishes with Indonesian aircraft and ships. In 1982, HMAS Melbourne was assigned to aid the British effort to liberate the Falklands from Argentine occupation. After the Falklands War, the Phantom FG.21 continued to serve. HMAS Melbourne was paid off in 1987. The surviving Phantom FG.21s were turned over to the RAAF to provide spares for the RAAF's Phantom FGR.22 force. The final flight of a Phantom FG.21 in RAN markings was at the Australian Bicentennial Airshow in 1988. Installation Install the contents of ModFolder into your mod folder. Overwrite as necessary.
