GKABs D-30 with "eastern uniformed" troops D-30s spoted by A-4 Skyhawk at Socotra Island Little tank fire exchange at Socotra. The Dushkas of the T-54 are a little bit overrated. Tank plinking is not such a fun anymore. -
ATAS -Air to air Stinger as alternative for gunless fighters?
Gepard replied to Icarus999's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
The Stinger is overrated. The soviets learned in Afghanistan such much about this missile, that they were able to invent counter measures which reduced the efficency of the Stinger very much. Lipa IR jammers, flares exactly working on search frequences of the Stinger seeker head and so on. Modern Stingers are much better now, but they cost a fortune. Over one million US$ the Lithuanians had to pay for one missile. Much to much. For the half price you get french Mistrale missiles. One deciding factor for a missile on a fast jet are the power of wind and air drag, which the missile has to withstand. And this power is enourmous. The starting container of the stinger is very light and cannot withstand if the wind power becomes to much. -
If you want to fly a MiG-21 there is a quick and dirty solution Open the file MiG-21MF.ini with Notepadeditor The lines should be: [AircraftData] AircraftFullName=MiG-21MF "Fishbed-J" AircraftDataFile=MiG-21MF_data.ini LoadoutFile=MiG-21MF_loadout.ini Then add the line CockpitDataFile=F-4E_cockpit.ini save the file Now you can fly the MiG with a F-4E cockpit

Multi-player was always a problem. Thatswhy it does not exist anymore in SF2 world. Try to fly only single missions with a stock plane. Lets say F-4 Phantom. If this works you can download a flyable MiG-21 from this site. There a lots of them available. You dont need Multi-player.

Perhaps SFP1 does not like Ubuntu. It was written for Windows XP. Do you have tried to choose an other plane or an other terrain? Sometimes mods can cause such a problem as you descripe.

Two horse tatchankas were as common as Troikas or Quadrigas. It depended a lot wheter enough horses were available. In the time of civil war both sides used what they had. Of course a quadriga tatchanka looked much better. The crew were always 3 men. One driver( is this the correct term?), one shooter and one for the ammo belt to prevent ammo jam. Polish Tatchanka Soviet Tatchanka used as Flak. -

You know what kind of movie this was. There was nearly all wrong. If you look to the soldiers in the back, this is Wehrmacht, not east german army. It would be the same to say all american girls are black, fat and ugly. -

I got the message, that my tactical numbers for israeli tanks are not correct. Thatswhy i reworked the design and made new israeli tank numbers, consisting of a hebrew letter as tank designation number, a normal number for the platoon designation, angles for the company and rings on the barrel for the battalion designation. (not on Centurions, there were strange stripes along the whole barrel, thatswhy i deletet the stripes again) Its a confusing system. -

Muzzle fire at Anti-Aircraft_Guns of Tanks
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
In SF2 world none. In reality it was not uncommon during WW2. Here a picture of the front turret of japanese Battleship Nagato. On the top you can see two tripple Flak guns. The picture was taken at Bikini Atoll some days befor an A-Bomb test. -
We can make the Fla-MGs (german term for anti-aircraft-machineguns, is shorter) of tanks movable, so that they are aiming on ground and air targets. We can make them shoot too. But there is often a distance between muzzle of the gun and muzzle flash. Is there a way to solve this problem? At ships it works fine, but at tanks not. Screenshot that explain what i mean: GK's M-84, you see the flash right of Fla-MG stock M60A1, the muzzle flash is left from gun muzzle.

Sometimes it works. And then, some seconds later, its the same rubbish as before. I think it is really a limit of the game engine, that it cant handle correct a rotating cuppola on a rotating turret. Not satisfying. -

The node names i have taken from LOD viewer. They are correct. The anti-aircraft-gun turret and barrel are moving as they should. But they are often not shooting in the direction in which the barrel is aming. -
