"Their Finest Hour" and the sequel "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" are gems. Very good campaign model as well if you ask me.

Lag Issues
jomni replied to Flegmatica's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The beauty of Thirdwire sims: TK made the sim in a way that it can run on old computers and is quite future-proof. The fact that I can run this sim in my laptop with Intel internal graphics processor is a good feature. I'd rather he keep it this way than require the latest graphics cards like all the other games. In fact, I cannot play the old Enemy Engaged Comanche Hokum in my laptop despite exceeding the minimum specs. I need to load it up in my desktop with the dedicated grpahics card and the graphics are not as good as Thirdwire sims even when modded to version 1.11. The only thing he missed is Vista compatibility but that's being fixed now. SF2 is great. Just because you maxed out the graphics of GTA does not mean you can max out the graphics of all other games. And TK is more focused on coding the flight model algorithms correctly and researching on the planes for accuracy than optimizing graphics. And this is what most fans and simmers care about. And you must appreciate the fact that the game is made by a small company (one-man-show?). And you are getting more game time than what you've paid for. TW sims cost a fraction of GTA and it has stayed in so many harddrives of simmers for such a long time. -
Yankee Air Pirate 2 - Ready
jomni replied to swambast's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually all Thirdwire sims will run properly on Vista if you install it outside Program Files directory. You might need to edit terrain.ini files though. So the original WOV and YAP will run on Vista. BTW, Thirdwire's next release is Strike Fighters: Vietnam (Vista remake of WOV). -

Using Radar Guided Missles?

Great news. I assumed you're playing SF2 and not SFP1. Did not read post #16 properly. -
Using Radar Guided Missles?
jomni replied to Flegmatica's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok so you can't get the yellow diamond. And you know how to operate the radar since you played other TW games. The operation is exactly the same. Maybe you should report this to Thirdwire in their forums. -
Using Radar Guided Missles?
jomni replied to Flegmatica's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok. Red box is only the visual lock. Your radar picks up the enemy plane as signified by the dot in your radar screen. You need to manually lock the enemy plane by pressing 'Home' (select radar targets) then press 'Insert' (lock target). Once locked you get a yellow diamond. boresight mode automatically locks the plane in front of you. When you fire, make sure that you have the target locked until the missile hits. -
For some reason, the campaign that I flipped does not work. I cannot select soviet squadrons despite setting them up in the .ini. But It's ok, I loaded up Red Wings Over Dhimar Campaign and made a little tweaking and it works. I think playing the early campaigns as reds is balanced since BVR technology is still not much used.

Eternal dilemma: CH VS. Saitek for HOTAS
jomni replied to SGCSG1's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
Ever since I got my Saitek Stick I never did fiddle with the profile software. In-game config seems to do the job already. I think profile software is for old games with no way of changing button config in-game like EECH. -
I want to flip sides (play as reds) in SF2. My plan is: 1) Extract the campaign files and create a clone 2) Switch force alignments (from FRIENDLY to ENEMY and vice versa) in campaign_data.ini 3) Change some red squads to fly my custom red planes in campaign_data.ini 4) Change Service in campaign.ini 5) Identify flyable squads in campaign.ini Did I miss out on anything aside from changing the win/loss/stall screens and text? I'm also thinking if the resulting campaign will be balanced.

First of all, I read the Knowledge Base. What I did is to d/l the ready-made stuff then saved cockpit directory and cockpit.ini under the Saved Games\Thirdwire\Objects\... directory. I then included a line in the plane.ini that points to cockpit.ini. When I try to fly, I get CTD at around 90% of the loading screen. What's wrong? Do I need to extract the plane_data.ini? Has anyone done this in SF2 already? Thanks.

Error in SF2
jomni replied to Viper6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There is a dedicated thread about this in the Thirdwire Forums. http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6045 -
Using Vista here. I am able to add custom planes to SF2 in the User\Save Games\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2\Objects directory. But some 3rd party aircraft have custom sounds and afterburner effects. Where do I save these? And should I edit any .ini files? I end up flying the plane without sounds and afterburner effects. Thanks.

You must be fiddling with the Default control profile. Try changing the name of the control profile then change the settings. That way all your setting will be saved under that name. Someone at TW forums said that SFP1 is conflicting so you need to remove than before you install SF2. But I dunno how the other game will affect SF2.

Anyone noticed this post by TK...?
jomni replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I will buy the next title even without the improvements. I just want more planes and campaigns. -
I'm getting a strange fog effect when running EECH 1.11 in my laptop running vista with internal graphics chip. I don't see anything in front of the chopper except a white block. FLIR looks ok though. I was hoping this game can run old games as it can run Thirdwire sims and Steel Beasts Pro PE. Anything I can do in the .ini file to fix this?

EECH2: How to go back to NAV mode
jomni replied to jomni's topic in Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs Hokum
oh! I haven't tried that. That's because I always use the weapon select button in the Joystick. Let me try that out.
