  1. Version V1.0

    259 downloads

Steven1918 and I have put together a comprehensive collection of WW1 anti-aircraft guns. A noteworthy feature is, for the first time, a selection of medium-level 37/40mm auto cannons that bridge the gap between low-level MGs and high-level 75mm AA cannons. The Maxim 37/40mm auto cannon, dubbed the "pom-pom" by the Brits, was used in various versions by all the major powers and was still in limited service early in WW2. Pom-poms will significantly affect a gamer's experience when flying below 5,000 feet, and could motivate a gamer to replay old campaigns - especially if he used to like balloon-busting. Now that balloons can be realistically defended, he may not like balloon-busting anymore. In addition to the pom-poms, there are multiple types of AA MGs. Also included are two types of optional gun pits: a C-shaped pit intended for use with AA guns, and a U-shaped pit intended for use with artillery, plus balloon winches for the major powers.
  2. Very impressive! You do good work.
  3. Taking a short break from the Martinsyde, and started work on Palestine skins for the Albatross D.V. One of the firms that made printed camo fabric in WW1 still exists, and occasionally runs off small batches for museums and restoration projects.

  5. I was fortunate enough to help test the original version - it was outstanding. This improved, final version should be even better. The Lawrence Of Arabia stuff is icing on the cake!
  6. Yep - 'tis a fine madness! I've been wanting to mod First Eagles for several years, but real life kept getting in the way. Since retiring, the old restraints have gone away so I can lavish all the time I want on this stuff. Kinda scary.
  7. Thanks, guys. I intend to finish up the Martinsyde in the next few weeks, plus maybe get the WW1 AA gun pack done - with Steven1918's help. Then, I'll start the AEG CIV, requested by ojcar for the Palestine mod. Then, finish the Halberstadt DV. Sprinkled through this activity will be upgraded Palestine textures for the Albatross DV, SE5, Rumpler CI, and Albatross CIII. After that, the new Italy and Verdun game maps look really tasty....
  8. Slowly grinding my way through the zillions of details - the textures are nearing completion. It won't be ready in "two weeks" but it should be ready "soon."

  11. When I asked Steven1918 how he set up AA gun models, he replied there was no one source that described "how to do it" - he just kind of figured it out on his own. We agreed to set my collection of low-level MGs and medium-level 37mm auto cannons aside to concentrate on the Palestine mod, which uses a few of them. Now that Palestine testing is nearly finished, it looks like the AA gun pack should be revisited so it can be released to creative guys like you.
  12. Thanks. The Coopers bombs are mine - they won't replace the standard game bombs, they are just place holders. Still gotta add scratches, dents, broken pencils, cigarette butts, etc - if I don't get tired of looking at it!
  13. More progress shots. The fuselage, and all its little fussy bits, is nearly done. Have started work on the flying surfaces, finished with Protective Coating No 12 (red oxide) that was widely used in the Middle East. Got a question about bomb racks. Some FE models have the mount rails, but not the actual racks as shown here. You guys will have to go into the ini files to attach the bombs ingame, so I thought I'd ask if bomb racks are harder/worse than mount rails.

  17. Wrench and gterl both sent me good reference stuff that I was lacking when the model was started - thanks, guys. To incorporate ALL of the new info would have meant revising the model and mapping, so I've made what changes I could. Shots below show first attempt at fabric lacing - too big and clunky! Back to the drawing board....

  21. The Italy theater was superb, and this looks like it will equal or surpass it. Impressive!
  22. Excellent - thanks!
  23. As Wrench was good enough to provide me with Martinsyde data, I thought I'd respond to a question above about WW2 aircraft. Because of my focus on biplanes and early monoplanes, I don't have many aircraft suitable for 1939-45 - and none of them are game-ready. Because of commitments to First Eagles projects, it will be at least a calendar year - or more - before I can complete any of the aircraft shown below. The only way to speed up that process would be for me to send the unfinished 3D models to Veltro2K and let him complete them. As he already has commitments of his own, I doubt if that is practical?
