  1. Snap, the B-2 could have cost less if we bought more of them. The reason for the high unit cost, was because we lowered how many we intended to buy several times. The production, tooling, personnell, development, and yada yada yada costs had to be recouped. You can thank Clintonian legislators and politicians for the cost overruns. Had we spent 10 Billion more on acquiring these aircraft, we'd have 40 of them, not 20. Also, as a testament to how incredible these aircraft are, we have yet to lose one. Not even in test and development. Name one aircraft that can claim zero class A mishaps. The B-2 is the only one I know of, and this a completely radical design and concept, not a tried and true design. This is the first tailless flying wing ever in production. Also, the aircraft has a capability like no other. In one pass, from Angels 40, it can hit 36 targets precisely with PGM's or JDAM's. Not even the B-1 can do this, and the B-2 does this with almost complete impunity from ground based defenses. I am not an extreme righty, and I do not support everything the military wants to buy, but I do support the B-2. It is simply a phenominal aircraft, and one whose purpose has not passed. Look at the B-52, more than 50 years after it's first flight, that airframe is still the workhorse of the bomber fleet. Used in every major conflict since Korea. The B-2 has more capability, there is no reason it should not be as valuable as the BUFF. Also, plese not that the B-2 in the museum was a ground test airfram used for dev and test. It has never flown, and was not constructed to be airworthy. It is basically useless after ground testing and avionics development and testing phases are complete. She'll be an excellent addition to the museum. -Skater
  2. You came to the right place, because I am a Sonar Tech! Technically, A and B are correct. However, the safe answer is A. The reason is that Active transmission has the capability to give longer range under certain conditions that I will not go into here. Also, you will get more information, especially for targeting purposes, at longer range with active transmission than you would with passive, and you would get that information very quickly. Passive listening can get you info, over a long period of time, and you can stay quiet and stealthy. You can move fast while using active, and still get usable info. You cannot transit at high speed using passive and expect to get anything in return. Passive listening has it's pro's and con's as does active transmission. Given a choice, I would stay passive, firm up the contact, stay stealthy, get a firing solution, maneuver the boat, fire off axis, turn the fish with the wire, and go active on the torpedo when 145 degrees off of actual bearing. But that's just me. :) -Skater
  3. Well then you must be suffering from sever sleep depravation then, because the Army does not have any Hornet's or any other type of fighter aircraft. The Army has a few observation and spotter aicraft types, but those are the only fixed wing aircraft operated by the US Army. The Army primarily operates rotary wing aircraft, and the US Army is currently the largest operator of rotary wing aircraft types in the world. The Soviet Union used to be number one, but ever since the break up of the old Soviet Union into the CIS, they have given up the #1 spot to the US Army. -Skater
  4. 1. The F-15 in LOMAC does not have folding wings. You are mistaking the Su-33 for the F-15 I think. I have seen the shots of the F-15 on Kuznetsov, but please remember that this is a $40 game. 2. The F-15 could land on a carrier, if the nylon barrier was up. Irreparable damage would probably result. The F-15 could not be catapult launched without serious modification. The cat would rip the nose gear cleanly out of it's housing when fired. 3. That Israeli incident is the ONLY time that an F-15 has been flown and landed with so much wing structure lost. It is also the ONLY time that ANY aircraft has been flown and landed with so much wing structure lost. It is truly a feat of incredible pilot skill, and a testament to the F-15's strength and build quality. Losing more than 3 feet of wing in almost any other aircraft is a sure ticket to a nylon letdown. I am not even sure if it could be repeated in another F-15. 4. The real issue is not being evaded... We all know that we are flying a $40 game sim. Not the real thing, and not a $40 million dollar high fidelity simulator. You need to relax. -Skater
  5. I think we've pretty much all said what we've had to say. It's all gonna degenerate from here. I'm gonna lock this one down now. -Skater
  6. Thanks Chief. That was a great trip down memory lane. I share the same memories and feelings that you do, and if I could, I'd go back to those days in heartbeat as well. Thanks again Chief. STS1 (SS) Ed Lynch USNR

That's an RF-5 Vigilante. Nice aircraft. Variable Geometry... Nuke capable... Mach 2+... NICE! -Skater
  8. Hey PCP, sounds like you are having one hell of a rough time. Hang in there buddy! One question though... not being a guy from the country, I am about as useless around horses, cattle, and other country like stuff as a fish out of water. My question is, what the hell is a wetback shack? Excuse my ignorance, but I'm a city boy from New York City. The closest I've come to a barn is when I drive by one on the way to the Groton Naval Base. :) -Skater
  9. Hey Snap, great looking site. Can't believe FSU makes you pay to be on their team. College level hockey is big time. I was looking at your profile... 6'3" 172 Son, start eating those wheaties. At that height, you should be about 50lbs. heavier. I am 6'4" 260, but only 10lbs or so of that is beer! :) Good luck! -Skater
  10. I was at work. Across the street. In One World Financial Center. I saw everything unfold in stark, vivid, reality. Everyone in my company (at that time I worked for Fidelity Investments) made it out alive, but not everyone in the building did. The building was heavily damaged, and some of the people were standing outside watching when the first tower fell. They must have been killed instantly from the falling debris as 1WFC is a mere 40 - 60 yards across the street. Standing outside, in front, facing West Side Highway, when the building came down would have been fatal. My wife, who works in the same building as I do (for a different company), was pregnant with my first child at the time. She called me from out front only 20 minutes before the building fell. I made her go around the back of the building by Foxhounds (a favorite restaurant of ours for lunch). She reluctantly did as I asked. Then she called from behind the building complaining that she could no longer see what was going on. Then the cell phone went dead... The 1st tower was falling. I went into shock. I was nearly 7 heart-wrenching hours later before I found out that my wife (and our unborn daughter) was okay. I was lucky. My family survived. I had managed to make it to the GW bridge before the building fell. The sight of that will be etched into my memory for all time. I cried for nearly an hour. For all that was lost. For the people who died, their families, and for New York. Things will never be the same. Not for NYC, and not for the US, and not for the world. Everything is different now. I will never forget the events of that day. Remember 9/11. -Skater
  11. aggreed but I think the prob is Bushes attendance record he was in the 147th Fighter Group Texas Air Guard ,but he never made drills I once talked to the mait chief in Houston he claimed the he painted the LT G.Bush on the F-101 and after 4mo of no show was told by the unit Commander to remove it,But atleast he was in and not in Canada. Will say that the detail is great, and the Nomax looks right on as far as color.. I think my preferance for a figure would have been a composit of a young lt or better yet a figure of the F-16 pilot still missing fron the first Gulf war we still dont know what happened to him was last reported seen walking and escorted by Iraq soldiers. Lt. Scott "Spike" Spiecher is USN, and the A/C type was an F-14. Personally, I don't care if he showed up for only half the drills. Also, I do not believe that ANG pilots have "drill". They have assigned flight time slots and duty times. Officers, and especially flight crew, do not have drill. I don't know if this Maint. Chief you talked to knows what the hell he is talking about or not, but personally I do not care. The man served, during a time of National Defense, and that is light years beyond what we can say about the last POTUS. I think I'd pick une up too, it's bound to be worth something in 20 years. -Skater
  12. That was hilarious! That guy was just too much. I can't believe how much they antagonized that guy though. They called him back like 3 times! :D Very funny. -Skater
  13. I scanned this out of the Mercedes Club of America's official magazine "The Star". I figured that those of you that don't get it would like to see this article. It's a great article on the Daimler-Benz DB600 Series aicraft engine. I found it really fascinating. I put it in .pdf format, so youse will have to get the Acrobat Reader if you don't have it already. It's big though... about 10MB, so don't say I didn't warn ya's. http://64.226.128.99/DB600_Article.pdf -Skater
  14. All of the Janes openers are great! My personal favorite comes from, hmmm.... I think it was called ATF. Where that little X-31 pulls a somersault move with a pirouette over the MiG-29's that were on his tail and then smokes 'em both. Poetry! Pure Poetry! :) -Skater
  15. I got the pedals last week. I am in the process of testing them. Give me a week or two, and I should have a test report and review for you. -Skater
  16. Well that's just awesome! I always loved that paint scheme. I built a model of that when I was a kid... I remember it because I used really expensive paint... Testor's Model Master Duck Egg Blue. Love it. Thanks. -Skater
  17. Same here. I kill everything of value that I can. Bomb, rocket, and strafe just about everything. I have won one campaign, had a draw in one, and lost one. My campaign settings are set to long, everything limited, and everything hard. Good luck. -Skater
  18. Hey guys, I'm a real noob in AA. I have a question... how do you get honor, what is it (in the game), and how do you lose it? I have been to a few different maps, and keep getting kicked because my honor is only 9 and the min to join is 10. How do I get more, and how do I lose it (just so I know what NOT to do)? Really perplexed here... -Skater
  19. No problem dude. The patch is on everyone's hotlist, and for some, their patience is wearing out. Let just do our best to keep it civil. The incessant nattering about the patch, and what it will fix gets to me too, but we have to maintain a cool head in here. Thanks for the apology. -Skater
  20. I have won the campaign many times. Maybe stupid comments like that arent needed. Maybe you should lick my f****** crack you asswipe. Can't leave well enough alone can you... f****** mary. InVader: Hey pal... you are pushing it with that language. You got a personal problem with this guy, you take it to e-mail bub. NOT HERE. I will not tolerate that crap in this forum. First and ONLY warning. USAFMTL: You opened this can of worms. Your response was inflammatory to say the least. Bring it down a notch. Everybody is a little touchy when it comes to the patch and it's long delay. Goes with the territory. No need to get nasty about it. -Skater
  21. I'll second that. PJ's and Combat Controller's are a hard core bunch. Very high attrition rate in their schools, which are fully twice as long as SEAL training. -Skater
  22. Awesome! Give him a big thanks from me. Ed Lynch STS1 (SS) -Skater
  23. Steak dinners are not all that uncommon on subs, but hollywood showers are. Hell, you'll have steak and eggs for breakfast more often than you will see vegetables, so protien up! ;) -Skater
