  1. going a bit fanciful with this project. presenting the B-1Cs of No 460 Squadron RAAF
  2. interestingly an actual 460th Lancaster, thought with some modernization by me (letters not the girl) more in the What if Screenshot thread, got 460 Sqn 1998 roughly where i want it. just need some marking input on the rest
  3. Razbam and YAP models

i've come acros a few YAP mods over the years while working other projects. not too impressed, esp with the skins. the saving grace for them is the items available that no one else has (ie F-100F, several helos) i've toyed with getting some of the unavailable models. for about 6-7 years running now. as was said RAZBAM is no longer sold. damn shame as it was top of the line, dont ever recall a complaint on them
  4. wow more detailed than i was going on back story, i was just going into what unit got them and how they got them in the 90s (accelerating the "retirement" of the fleet a couple of years). to paraphrase Jules Winfield, that story is some serious gourmet Spinners style shit back to skin and serials.... i've worked 8 airframes for the 90s transfer, figure another 4 for 2000s although one is an attrition replacement in my head (training crash in 2000 timeframe). just gotta do door numbers too and 98 is done. would like your opinions on going back to the old SAC scheme in early 2010s, use of retro WW2 nose arts (some modern touch up) on the birds, and a little more detail on operational use by the Israelis (thats one Dale Brown book i havent heard of) so that one can get done up. there will also be a cartoon nose art thats part of the package (to be shown later today or tomorrow) as said above, ini work i'll leave to you, will send the skins to you when complete. the afterburner bit i mentioned is done, just adjusted the effects (also included when sent
  5. ok toned down a bit as i'm getting a bit burned out on Bones (say that three times fast) but heres what i got...... in order to both bolster a request from Austrailia as well as reduce the inventory of B-1 bombers a total of 8 were approved for lease to the RAAF in November 1996. Crew training and refurbishing meant that the first bombers didnt actually arrive until February of 1998. All 8 airframes came from lots II and III of the production run (FY83 and FY84) and were assigned ADF serials starting with A55 and ending in the last three of their USAF serial. No 460 Squadron was reformed to operate the bombers in a primary long range maritime patrol mission with a secondary long range strike capability retained. The first aircraft featured nose art named Leader with a kangaroo playing bagpipes in honour of the squadrons role over Europe in WW2. Squadron marking include a toned down squadron badge below the DSO window, and a silohuette of a kangaroo riding a bomerang in orange serial as indicated, with the A55 number and the original USAF serial in the number.lst, looking up a few more nose arts and figuring out a couple serials from 2003 for a second batch. also thinking they may go back to the Strategic scheme in the 2000s for the local overland role. any suggestions? hope to have the skin portion to you withing the week depending on RL
  6. Super Sunday

just another Sunday in the Deutsche Demokratische Republik scooting in low as i like to do now, i did destroy a hardened shelter. just not the one i was supposed to.....
  7. guardians of the Chattahoochie how are you feeling ............ rattlin. Haha very funny......... this one seems to be popular on most American bombing platforms and for those that know their geography i know the Chattahoochie is no where near Warner Robbins. but its more recognizeable than Ocmulgee, and is in the same state.
  8. King Jayhawk..... and one of the knights... circa 1996
  9. strahi, those flares look different (not bad different, just different). reminds me of a bit about Sidewinders basically being cued to defeat western flare, but Russian flares still defeat them cause they do it different. even worked against AIM-9X over Syria anyhow, mandatory screenie

  11. US Army aviation acronym?

sorry other Kevin, to let the retired NCO explain... Commisioned Officers are the bulk of military pilots to include US Army aviators. these are ranks O-1 through roughly O-6 (Leiutenant through Colonel) with most Generals not flying often if at all Warrant Officers can be pilots in the US Army as well. the other branches did away with WO pilots several decades ago. The Flight Warrant is the only Warrant Officer that can become a Warrant without first being an NCO, even right out of basic training if certain scores are high enough. Their ranks run WO1, CW2 -CW5 and are generally addressed as "Chief", "Sir" or "Mister". a CW5 by the way is rather rare to see, but generally has all the courtesies extended to a Colonel. they are THE expert and can quote things the authors of the manuals have to go back and check. Non flight warrants are still experts in their fields, but must work through the ranks to become a Sergeant (E-5) minimum to gain practical experience in their field. Non Commissioned Officers is what most not familiar with the Army would call Sergeants or Corporals. this encompasses ranks from E-4 (in the case of a Corporal) through E-8( Master Sergeant). they can be aircrew (crew chiefs, gunners, flight medics) and may unofficially get stick time, but are officially not allowed to fly the birds. there are still more senior NCO ranks but again they rarely fly even as crewmembers having alot more unit admin and leadership work to do. in fact the last NCO pilots in US service either got put out or commisioned after WW2, or moved to the Warrant Officer side of the house Stratos, another explanation of commission vs non commission is that the comissioned officer got their position thru education and is appointed by Congress to lead the troops. the Non Commissioned Officer comes up through the ranks and leads the enlisted Soldiers through their experience and gives guidance to the commissioned officers on how to accomplish the given missions. The Warrants are the subject matter experts in most cases, and the pool of available aviators in this case (still generally more knowledgeable than the ringknockers tho)

Reciprocity was enjoyed by the Soviets in the former British Zone of Occupation. The airborne component of BRIXMIS flew out of RAF Gatow in Berlin. An observer rode in the front and took pictures of Soviet military activities and equipment within a 20 mile radius of Berlin, flying under cover of "exercising the right to navigate within the flight corridors to and from Berlin". Serials provided are in pairs for each period of time operated, but in one overall skin WK303, WK587 from 1956-1966 WP850, WP971 from 1966-1974 WZ862, WD289 from 1974-1988 WG466, WG486 from 1988-1990 Credits From the Original Big Al for the aircraft Bobrock for pilot figure (A-26) AvHistory for the engine sound Raven for the cockpit. 15. cough cough nudge nudge i'm wrapping up B-1s for now (SAC era complete, just gotta finish research on 14 in ANG service and knock them out) and KC-10 was on my improve list for this SAC Twilight thing i got going on. done by Sunday and off to testers if RL cooperates (dang if we arent supposed to stay indoors now). $0.02 thrown in even if your still looking for new blood for the base skin, the decals set up for the old one should do with minimal adjustment (depends on how the windows and doors are on model really). would save a lot of time for both the tanker versions and airliner versions later on. also to any and all who might tackle big girl here (me included): i wouldnt worry about the rivets themselves. tried it on the C-5 years ago. on something this big irl, the rivets would have to be the diameter of Whoppers to be visible at any realistic distance
  16. Two-Seater Tuesdays
