Decals
daddyairplanes replied to amariani's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
that or move the decal (with proper distance from edge) to a close enough place on the mesh. sometimes you gotta be 18 inches from a particular part rather than 15 to get it to work. like everyone else said, my most common has been running up to close to the edge, although i have used it FOR that effect on some of the airliners (usually to get a stripe to the back end of the bird). most of my lod issues wound up being something completely screwy (thinkin of when i tried to do the VIP C-17 for Qatar, with "Qatar" on the bottom. didnt happen due to a wicked seam) good to hear your making a comeback -
Strike Fighters 2: Windows 10 Edition up for pre-order
daddyairplanes replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
well thankfully we are in western countries, not the CCCP. no gulag if you dont get it i too will likely not buy it as it works fine on all my win10 systems. but it does concern me as now we modders will also have to hear "does it work on SF2 Win10?" as well as "does it work in Gen1?" hopefully the answer is "duh....."- 183 replies

USAF plans on retiring hundreds of Aircraft
daddyairplanes replied to Nesher's topic in Military and General Aviation
interesting to me theres no date (at least that i saw. that aside its two fold announcement. first is good old budget politics; "we dont have enough money need to retire the old stuff so we can get new". however, some of the latest proposals are actually decent, like retiring a little over a dozen B-1B and 44 A-10 rather than the whole fleet. the aircraft proposed would be the higher hour birds and maintenence hogs of the fleet. in the case of the A-10 (still in the process of being rewinged) it would mean 65 new wingsets rather than 109, and a source of other spares for the remaining fleet of around 210. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2020/02/10/bye-bye-brrrrt-air-force-wants-retire-44-10-warthogs.html remains to see how the politics of this plays out tho. Congress is known for actions like not allowing retirement of the KC-135E fleet, at a time when they were sitting so long they had to be fired up and moved to keep the tires from going flat. the second youngest service (feels wierd to say that) does like shiny new things, but it really does need to let go of some of the old however much enthusiasts or Congress cry no. older airframes do get hard to pay for too, after a while. except BUFFs. ther will be a B-52 flyover when the USS Enterprise is launched heres is another version of the same news, with a little more detail https://www.military.com/daily-news/2020/02/10/air-force-send-more-100-planes-boneyard-it-invests-future-fighters.html -

Decal notes question
daddyairplanes replied to Nuni's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
also keep in mind when placing and sizing, that Mues latest LODviewer allows you to view decals (and everything else). saves alot of time. when working with decals, initial placement and sizing is the hardest part. create a saved pattern (just like making a skin template) then once the ini is dialed in, its just a matter of working through, whether adding serial numbers, nosearts, insignia, or whole skins (it can be done) -

Upgrade for ODS...calling modders new and old
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
as miracle max said "look who knows so much" UH-60M and SeaCougar are extras in this release (Thanksgiving gift folder). they still need a chunk of work, but we do have them in house. Rayensouissi2002, get with allenjb42. he has been working on alot of skins for other site (facebook page, not capuns) Blackhawks, and has made a decent substitute Seahawk -
Upgrade for ODS...calling modders new and old
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Hello folks. Its been 2 years since the ODS campaign mod has been updated, and 9 years since the original Gen1 version release. There are many things that can be fixed within those releases (some may have noticed a theme in my recent skin pack releases). the question is, who out there is interested in working on updating this campaign? not looking for "thats a great idea", looking for folks that would like to improve on the mod as it currently stands and able to give some form of participation i very much understand about real life commitments and other projects. if we can get some folks willing to work on this, i propose a release of 16 Jan 2019. yes that's next year, but allows plenty of time to work on this and it seems an appropriate date for the theme because of newer aircraft, we would need some support from the experienced campaign gurus. not necessarily active work, but advising if an up and coming campaign builder volunteers to work on this finally most of the work anticipated is adding already complete objects to the campaign (and possibly removing some historically inaccurate items) and campaign edits to make it work. hopefully this will be an opportunity for some new talents in the community to work with the older heads. but before we even get to the scope of the project, gotta ask: who's in? -

Well, it was fun while it lasted...
daddyairplanes replied to amariani's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
i've emailed myself a document with all the serial numbers of the major electronics, and update about every 6 months. that way even if everything is lost, i still have the serials for police or insurance use. -
