Hmmm, i never managed to get the fog in the past years. Before i was using an ATI radeon 2800, wich wouldnn't support it, and now on vista my Nvidia 9800 does not want to make it neither. So even with last pilots and High end grphic cards the fog is a real issue. I would love to put in Glide with Zicken's wrapper(which activates the fog) but problem is the texts all desappear in glide mode. So i play without fog in 1440.900 and it's still quite beautiful.

Hmmm, i guess it's only possible in missions isn't it? As campaigns are not configured to do that? Then i guess campaign data inis just need to be tweaked.

View File Modder Starting toolpack for EAW Here is all what you will need for European Air War modding: Skinning tools, 3D models tools and texture/files decompressors/converters, as much as batch files to make conversions faster. PCX files can be oppened by any drawing program like Paintshop pro or Photoshop. Otherwise you can download the excellent free open source program "THE GIMP" for your textures and pcx. Special thanks to Colonel Gibbon that provided me all this useful stuff. Also thanks to EAW community and the source code committee that keeps this wonderful game alive and never stops improving it. EDIT: From Col. Gibbon: You can skin in 24bit BMP format too. The restiction on this is, 8bit runs in Glide & D3D mode, and 24bit colour runs only in D3D. We have not been able to get 24bit working on Glide, as it was never designed to work in higher than 16bit. Note: If you run vista you will have to put the CDF extractor in "C:\windows" in order to open it, otherwise it won't work. Submitter Nixou Submitted 10/11/2009 Category EAW - Europen Air War

OK, Where is the EAW Combat Ace Forum?
Nixou replied to Col. Gibbon's topic in EAW - General Discussions
Hey col. Gibbon . So finally they oppened a EAW forum in combatace, what a good thing! Like many of you EAW was also my "first love". Thanks again for the tools you passed to me, they were very useful. I'm happy to see the game gets each time more interest. -

Even though it says it doesn't, FIRST EAGLES works perfectly on vista. Heck, even EUROPEAN AIR WAR works fine on vista. -

Campaign issue
Nixou replied to Nixou's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for your answer icarus, but i'm a ENB series user yet and it does not accelerate the framerate in my game, to the contrary. But the framerate is not that much a problem actually than the campaign. So anyone here playing WOE/WOV campaigns plays with dead pilots in their squadron, and finnish by doing the missions on their own with one plane? -
Hi everybody. I searched and didn't found topics talking about this even though it has probably been discussed before already. In European air war, when playing the campaign, dead pilots of your squadron would be replaced by new fresh pilots, automatically. In First Eagles there is a way to "force " them to revive. In Wings over Europe i think too, but there is too much time that i don't play to it so i don't remember. So the question is: How to replace dead pilots of your squadron on campaign mode? (in WoE, WoI or WoV?) Also i see much of you acquired SFP2 already, and, i was wondering if anyone noticed a framerate increase? I run unmodded Wings of (gen1) and it isressources consuming even with low graphic settings and my computer is rather powerful. So has the Graphic Engine been optimized? Thanks by advance.

ouch.. every time i go in weapons modding i have hard time and bugs. From what i know you can use two methods to add guns to your plane: First is the "pilot method". You create a new "pilot" in the ini which infact is your weapon model and you localize it to be on the good part of the plane. It's the simplest method but the bad side is that you won't see the gun in cockpit view. The second method is to add your gun as a gunpod station and this is the hardest method, but at least you see the gun from everywhere. I dn't know to do it. You should talk to Whiteknight he is familiarized to this, he added lewis guns to a spad7, nieuport21 and things, i think he knows his stuff.

It's a pîty you guys cannot log into their site. The biggest problem i found is to actully get there as when you type "skunkworks" on google you don't find them. Then i sent em a mail and got a response the day after. I downloaded TONS of good stuff, new planes and stuff. A game isn't just the same when you add all the planes they have. It makes it complete. They even have aircraft of the first days of WW1 with machine guns shooting to the side lol. I downloaded all what was downloadable and saved all on my HD in case their site goes down/i would get banned. Yes that's true some of their models have been hugely inspired of a professional dude doing plane models that granted them the autorisation. But who cares actually, their planes are wonderful. I somehow figured that in the past, all their planes were available to download on combatace, but it looks like they had a rant with CA admins or whatever and they withdrawn all their work from here, which is quite unfortunate for us. They also have tons of planes of other eras than WW1. This site is just a must go. http://cplengineeringllc.com/SFP1/Skunworks1.html

Yes it is. It's basically the same file which ini has been tweaked by FalconAF. @FalconAF: I don't want to be mean, seriously, but the mod has been copyrighted by Boris Voronstsov, as i said in my readme, all thanks, license and distribution rights comes to him. You cannot appropriate yourself registered work because you tweaked the ini. It's still HIS mod. From your readme: First you don't thank nor name the original creator, Boris Vorontsov. Second you HAVN'T the right to say about your permission on paying a work that isn't yours. The only permission to ask is to Boris Vorontsov. Please without offense, respect copyright properties and intellectual work. Regards. P.S: here is the original Boris Vorontsov license file i provided in my mod and his terms: license_en.txt

UUMMmmm that should be a problem of FLIGHT MODEL. Use latest peter01 FM and Nieuport will become the best sky dancer ever. Also in my opinion nieuport are among the best planes to fly and hunt, their awesome agility and good armament are very good (at least for my style of playing). I prefer the N17 with 2 guns one lewis one vickers, and there is no fighter that gives me fear when in it. The small weight of the N17 makes the 2 guns recoil amazingly big though so only shoot at close range. Also the deault cockpit has not enough visibility for me so i twicked the angles and view position to aim better. Nieuport are very good because they appear very soon in war, they are early planes, which makes that you never face better planes when the appear. Attacking gotha with a nieuport is something i would never do though, it's totally useless you would be killed anyways. Just attack bombers from under (when they are not defended from under) and other fighters, nothing else. It's a fragile aircraft and TK gunners are snipers so you get killed in seconds.

Wonderful plane, i like it.

Keeping the pilot from disappearing when shot.........
Nixou replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
O yea dude good idea. It might be the only way even. The only potential problem with doing it: the "dead" pilot model shouldn't have parts that would pass the alive 3D model and be seeable BEFORE he is really dead. But it's definitely the way to go imo, and is not even that complicated. Well thought. -
Realistic gun sounds for FE
Nixou replied to Nixou's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Hey everybody! Much thanks for all said. Im very glad that it has at least satisfied some people. Sorry for not answering quickly, but this file did not receive comments at all during 2 months, so i did not check it very often. But don't worry i still regularly look at it in case of. Yes, my aim was really to make the game more immersive, so i'm really happy you perceived it that way, i couldn't be more satisfied. Thanks for all of you guys. OLpaint01: Yea i have highered the sounds because stock ones were "unaudible" unless you put the general sound very high, in which case motor sound would break my hears. On the last update i have put em to a lower volume and frequency, i thought it would be good. Also gun sounds in reality, are very high decibels compared to anything else, that's why i have highered them a little. But this, is really subjective, it's up to anyone. That's why i lowered em, my personnal one are higher. If you want me to make a new bunch of sounds with lowered decibels to something comparable with stock (even though you won't hear em unless general sound is high) or just want a slightly lower volume bunch, just say me ;) ill do it anytime. Regards. -
Well , yes there are. The absolute have to dowloads are my mods!! Ok i stop it. I think you can try the widesky mod that enhances the sky very much, also for all your plane downloads , Peter01 flight model, new or less new, are a MUST HAVE, i really mean it. In my view, all downloadable planes are just as wonderful if not better than professional ones, if you use them with Peter01 fms. You can download a big part of those planes here, and the rest of them at A-team website, skunkworks.com or something.

I think that considering WW1 planes able to withstand any High G maneuvers, or being very solid, is a little exagerated. Nearly all starting aircraft of WW1 had structural problems. ALL sesquiplanes had. Nieuport 11 upper wing did break often. Nieuport 17 under wing was so fragile that diving was adviced to avoid. Fokker triplane, is among those planes that wing failures were catastrophic. Several german pilots died by its fault. Lothar von richtofen's big injuries in that famous accident, that stopped him from scoring kills during very much time, was due to fokker triplane wing failure. Fokker tripe was even forbidden to fly at a moment of the war, until all planes wings had been reinforced. But even after wing failures did continue. There, from wikipedia, was the reason argued: "Postwar research revealed that poor workmanship was not the only cause of the triplane's structural failures. In 1929, National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) investigations found that the upper wing carried a higher lift coefficient than the lower wing — at high speeds it could be 2.55 times as much" And that's logic, at that time mechanical enginering on forces and structure resistance/resilience/elasticity were not that developed compared to today, well, i even think no studies were made at all. When engineers needed to make a new aircraft, they builded a motor in a fuselage, of which they attached wings and tried to keep it as solid as possible, then tested it. The most fragile parts were reinforced, at posteriori, but basic theorical structural forces withstanded by planes were not known/done, IMO. As a fact, very much aircraft testers were killed/ highly injured in that era. In that RED BARON 3D game, when you were pulling the stick too much at too much speed, you began to hear the wood of the structure "crackle", which meant that more forces/acrobatic maneuvers would result in the break of a part. I think this was very realistic imo, i think it's exaclty what would happen in reality, to any wood constructed plane. (read: any plane less the fokker DVII)
