FA-18A Flaps
Stingray72 replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
If you have some questions on the F-18, there is a guy in my squad who flew them for his entire 20 year Naval career, including the initial acceptance training. He stills flies them in some offical capacity, though not sure what. He is definately the guy to ask, so post your questions and I will put them on my squad's website, or you can register and post them yourselves. His call sign is Houdini. 11th_AF_Taxman -

That B-52 screeny looks eerily similar to an actual B-52 crash that happened at an airshow here in WA some years ago. A hotshot B-52 pilot was the left seat, and they sent a squared away guy who kept trying to get him grounded; he was to make sure that this guy didn't pull stupid crap. They also put a guy on who was on his last flight about to retire. The plan was to finish the flight, then taxi up to the bleachers and the retiree was going to get out and retire with his family, but instead dumb dumb overbanked a BUFF and balled it up in front of this guys wife, kids, and all of the brass. Very, very sad. ~Tax http://www.check-six.com/Crash_Sites/Czar52Crash.htm -

Ironroad nailed it!! That's what I was saying, just less technical lol. The F-4 is a sweetheart though, and I won't let anyone trash her on here. Name another plane that was around for as long AND as versatile?? Off topic, sorry.... ~Tax -

Yep, similar problem here until I understood it. The only jet sim I had flown before tis was the Jane's series, and everything there feels nimble. After playing IL2 for the last 8 years, getting into WOV was difficult because none of the planes felt like they could get out of their own way. It's just what you are used to, coupled with flight models that try to mirrow what the jets felt like, and I have to believe a loaded out F-4 wieghing in around 41,000 lbs just feels heavier than an LA-7 at 7100lbs. When you look at power to weight, the LA-7's almost 2000hp plant is close to 1/3 the weight of the a/c. The F-4's thrust equals up to roughly 13, 300 hp per engine totalling 36,600 hp. When you do the math, which seems like a lot for power to weight, but when you get it out of a straight line gravity starts to weigh in, and with 41,000 pounds gravity is exerting more force than on a 7000 pound airframe. Hope this helps too! ~Taxman -

For the record, I wasn't pooping all over the BUFF office, I was not aware of why it was missing. I really thought it was a gross oversight or something. My appologies Sir. ~Tax -

Hey, easy guys, Julie Andrews was kinda hot, check her out sometime. She works it lol. Anyways, the biz. The cockpit on the BUFF was most excellent, but how the hell do they control the plane? There's no FLIGHT CONTROL YOKE!!! A minor oversight, I'm sure lol. Am I crazy or does anyone else notice this? ~Tax -

I've seen the video AOCbravo is talking about. It's pretty cool. An F/A-18 is dropping a test bomb at a range, and the two seat A-4 flying wing takes it through the wing. Here's a youtube link: If you look, it seems that the rack ejects with the bomb and messes up it's flight characteristics. both pilots made it out, I saw an interview on another sight. Hopefully MAKO69 was as fortunate. ~Tax -

Meusli, Where do you get the AD-5??? Daddy wants.....lol ~Taxman -
Hi! I was wondering if there is a list of active squadrons for WOV anywhere. IL2 has one, so I thought I would ask about it. I am seeing a lot of newish posts about virtual squadrons and am curious about that part of the community. ~Taxman

Ok, I found this one, but I don't think this is it for some reason. http://www.freewebs.com/virtual84/index.htm It says they are disestablished. is there a new one? ~Tax

rgr, I'll try that and see what happens. Yes, I fly on hard. I'll let you know what happens. ~Tax -
Not sure if this was a joke thread, but.... One time, right after I bought Jane's WWII fighters (yes, a LONG time ago) I had a dream thatI was trying to take off in a Corsair on a snowy day. I kept crashing and starting over, and I remember saying out loud in my dream "Man, these graphics are sweet, can't wait to tell Andy (my roomate)!!" True story, probably one of my most vivid dreams ever lol. Not sure why it was a Corsair though, that plane was never in Jane's. Huh. Just thought I would share that with you all lol. ~Taxman

I'm running a stock WOV, but I have the Oct 2008 patch and it works when I install it. It doesn't matter if I air or ground start, either way the rotors only spin really slow and the darn thing just starts tumbling. ~Taxman -
I only have WOV, and so far I have used the lessons learned with what I have read in books to suceed in staying on top in most situations. SAM's get me more than MiGs and SU's, which is still not as much as AAA, but they have their moments. Now, I downloaded the F-5 from here, and went and got into a scuffle with some MiG-19's, and I had one guy that worked me pretty good. That plane can decelerate so fast, much faster than the F-5, and naturally I started to overshoot. I swung to the outside to bleed speed and open a little for a guns kill, and he broke into me like a good boy, and wouldn't you know it? The little F-5 couldn't stay with this guy in the scissors; wings too small, kept trying to stall all over the place, etc...I went through this three or so times, and every time the only way to live was to just go up, which I started using and finally got him, but in the flats he was yanking down around 105 mph???? Amazing. That's the story of my toughest opponent. ~Tax

Nightshade, sweet shot Sir!! ~Taxman -
Mig, I'm running v9.24.04, stock version. I have had problems with crashes when I try to upload updates. the error I get is something about a .dll problem, and I was told that I need to go DL a complete version of DX or something. I am not at all computer savy, and I need to sit down and read some stuff in the tutorials to get a better grasp (I know, I know!!) You have answered questions for me before, so thank you again for helping figure crap out! ~Tax

Malibu, I went into the campaign load screen and didn't see a delete button anywhere. Can you load your game up and confirm the location? Wondering if this is another Vista issue..... I am an idiot. I found the single mission area with no problem, all I had to do was look lol. Do you know if there are any refuelling missions for the stock WoV? I am off to go look, but if you have a link handy..... Thanks again! Big help!! ~Tax

Hi all. It's me, the WoV dummy with more questions :) Thanks ahead of time for the help! 1) How do I delete old campaigns? 2) Where do I find the single missions? 3) I downloaded the F-105 F/G mod, but is there a campaign anywhere for the WW F-105's? I am having a tough time with this game, it seems like more of a computer guy type of game than IL2, which I am used to. You all have been most helpful sor far and I appreciate it! ~Tax
