How many OFF folks fly with rudder pedals?
RAF_Louvert replied to Over50's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. As I mentioned in another recent thread here, I play "Mostly Dead". . -

. There you go, and I have redone my vote to reflect your update. . -

. And by quadrant, I mean something like this: Sorry for the confusion. . -

. Sorry Olham, I should have said "quadrant". I am likely the only one who set up a retro style throttle lever on the left side of the keyboard. . -

. hee, hee...yes, well I also fly whilest sipping a cuppa' too. There's immersion and then there's immersion, and then there's simply enjoying the moment. . -

. Good idea Olham. Perhaps you should add a category for those of us who use levers to control throttle, choke, etc. Also, I picked the TIR4 option but I am using the TIR5 software with TIR4, (not that this would really affect the results of your poll at all). . -

. Olham, I am surprised you are not using your pedals, as deeply as you seem to be into the realistic and immersive side of this sim. It is very easy to get rid of the toe functions by simply going into the Saitek control panel and setting the "zero range" on the toe functions to max width. Then disable the twist fucnion on your JS and you are good to go. Also, I don't place my heels up on the pedals but rather rest them on the slide base extensions and fly while wearing thick cushy socks. Makes it much easier to get fine rudder control and is more comfortable in a long flight. Over50, I fly with glasses and have the light source in the room directly above me. I have never had reflection issues with my TIR set-up. I hope you got yours all sorted out Sir . -
. After setting up my OFF/MAW configuration I can tell you that the devs must have dialed down the WWII flak found in CFS3. I had not originally swapped the CFS3 weapons files with those in OFF when I first flew one of the WWI planes in Egypt, and I was hit within five seconds by an AA burst that literally turned my BE2c into confetti. Tried it a few more times before switching and always with the same results, (the sheer volume and intensity of the AA was beyond frightening) . After I swapped the files I had the much more realistic WWI version we see in BHaH. .

How many OFF folks fly with rudder pedals?

. Over50, I've been using the Saitek Pro Flight pedals for a year, and I can't imagine flying without them now. A giant improvement over the twist stick. . -
. Happy Birthday Shredward! All the best Sir. psssst...someone find out how old he is so we know how many times we get to hit him .

. After you've landed, try yelling, "LASSIE!" LASSIE WIth any luck at all, 1950's June Lockhart will come running to you rather then the damned dog. .

. Excellent advice uncleal. That is the practice I follow, and as you say, it's less threatening in the early war, but downright scary by 1918. .

. I prefer "Mostly Dead " rather than "Dead is Dead". Mostly Dead is still slightly alive. With Dead is Dead, well, with Dead is Dead there's usually only one thing you can do, go through his clothes and look for loose change. Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die. .

. Also, be sure to stay relaxed when landing a dead and/or damaged plane. Try whistling the "Blue Danube Waltz" as you're coming in, that's what I do. .

Coming this weekend - the Fee makes it's return
RAF_Louvert replied to a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. I await it's return with anticipation, as well as antipasto. Mmmmmmm, Italian cuisine and OFF, a winning combination. . -
. I agree with Rickitycrate, "Up And At 'Em" is a very good read. I have a first edition of Major Hartney's book on my shelf and I have read it several times. .

. Let me offer my sincere congratulations as well Winston, and a full parade dress salute Sir. Well deserved to be sure. I too was overlooked, in my case for the USAF Commendation Medal, but that was decades ago in a Cold War far, far away. I don't expect to ever see the honor, but then I am no doubt in very good company. Again WD, congratulation. Awardees buy the drinks! SALUTE Lou .

. Very good information Olham and Capitaine Vengeur, thanks for sharing Gents. .

. I have used the same sort of online service for this purpose as you do Olham. My point about having the old calendar hanging on the wall in you flying room is that it is just one more little feature that can serve to "take you back". Thanks for the info on the modern German abbreviations for the months. I had seen an old calender with the forms I have shown, which is why I went with those. .

. Greetings All, Late last night I was flying a campaign mission with my current pilot, and as I was trying to remember for the umpteenth time just what day of the week it was back in 1916, I had an epiphany, (or maybe it was an apostrophe). Why not make a template in my Paint.NET program so that I could create a calendar for any given month during the Great War and personalize it to the air service I am currently flying for, then I could print it out and keep it handy. I found a nice old calendar to use as a guide and in about an hour had the framework of the template built. Here is a sample to give you an idea of what you could do yourselves. You could drop in any art or old ad you might like at the top of the page, and change the dates, month, year, font, and language accordingly. Then print it out and keep it next to your flying rig for easy reference and ambiance. You all get the idea. Have fun. Cheers! Lou .

. Absolutely right, it is the Goldenes Militär-Verdienstkreuz. Well done Olham, and as you've pointed out, it was referred to as the NCO's Blue Max. Thanks for the links too, I was aware of the Order of the Württemberg Crown as I had come across it before in one of my other research projects. .

Olham, the rivers, lakes, and rail lines tend to work the best when navigating in OFF by paper map. You can do it with some roads, but there are so many that it can get confusing rather quickly. I use the maps available in the OFF downloads section and always begin a new campaign with a "Cook's Tour" of my AO, making notes of various landmarks and such. It might seem a bit intimidating at first , but after a few flights you will get the hang of it. And just like our RL counterparts experienced, as you become familiar with your particular area you will be able to find your way around simply by looking down at the scenery. I highly recommend it. .
