  1. I'm not sure myself about the difference between scenery and terrain. Try setting one to one and the other to four and then switching settings to see if you notice any difference.
  2. I have no problem with the scene being shot in the national cemetary, it's the execution of the scene that I didn't much care for. For all of Spielberg's talents, he has a tendency to the overly saccharine or maudlin at times. I dunno, something about the scene just struck me as a bit emotionally false. OTOH, I didn't feel that way the first time I saw the film. I also had the same reaction as you at the end of the film. Had the same reaction at the end of Glory. Silence and awe at the sacrifices of soldiers past and present. SPR and Glory are two of my favorite war films.
  3. The sound effects were what impressed me the most about SPR, especially the beach landing scene at the beginning of the film. Could have done without the opening and closing scenes in the cemetary, however.
  4. I have a friend with a disability who uses hand controls in place of brakes and accelerator. She is only 4' 10" so she sits only about 18 inches from the steering column. I keep telling her to either disable the air bag or sit back farther from the wheel but she never listens to me. But then, she also has a bit of a death wish...
  5. For me, capping the FPS reduced a significant stuttering problem on my CRT. Don't know what effect it has on LCD's.
  6. Roger. If there is anything amiss, I'm sure you will sort it out.
  7. Oh, and I was using a Camel when flying against the German balloons, so I had the use of two guns, not one.
  8. Gee, thanks Bullethead. Anyone have a good price on a horse and buggy? Seriously, BH, glad to hear of your narrow escape. How many does that make now?
  9. When your 'puter starts up, just after the beep, if you press the delete button* on my machine you can access the motherboard BIOS settings. Once there, there are several tabs or sections which give you access to various MB functions, including PCI Bus or frequency. Mine is normally set at 100, but I had upped it to 105 until OFF started crashing. Setting it back to 100 seemed to help. *You may have to press a different button, likely Alt or Ctrl. On some machines, you have to press one of the function keys.
  10. What year are you starting? If 1916, try starting your career a few months later or try another squadron.
  11. Are you overclocking your CPU or GPU? What is your PCI frequency? I was getting constant crashes until I backed off a bit on my CPU overclock and reset my PCI settings in the BIOS to normal. Still crashes occasionally, but only after long gaming sessions.
  12. Go here: OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\default\ and click on the cfs3.xml file. Look for this line: <Graphics OldAircraftRender="No" MaxFPS="0" /> and change the number from "0" to "40." You may have to experiment with the setting a little, but doing that and setting Vsync from "off" to "on" seemed to make a difference in my setup.
  13. I already added my Germanic surname to the GermanyLastNames file! Added a few French names to the FranceLastNames file, too! Works fine! Now downloading Creaghorn's file. Thanks!
  14. Pol, please check the vehicle folder. There appears to be 2 folders for German observation balloons (g_obs_balloon and h_obs_balloon) but only one Allied balloon (a_obs_balloon). I am particularly suspicious about the h_obs_balloon, as it is the only h_ entry--no h_balloon_base, h_boxcar etc.
  15. I love all of the above changes to the game coming in the super-patch, with one tiny, little exception: Whaaaa! :cray: All of my DM work down the drain! :cray: Are you sure the new DM will not be compatible with the older ones? Will players be able to use 3rd party DMs like IDM 2.2 that were made before the super patch or will we have to create new ones based upon the the new OBD DM? It's really not a big deal, but I was thinking of creating a combined-super-duper-mondo DM that would contain the best aspects of the hardcore DM, my IDM, and FB's DM, all rolled into one. No point on working on that if it will be incompatible with the new patch. :cray:
  16. Go here: OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\default\ and open the cfs3.xml file. Look for this line: <Graphics OldAircraftRender="No" MaxFPS="0" /> Change the "MaxFPS="0" to MaxFPS="40" to start and see if that has an effect on your stutters. You may have to adjust the number up or down depending on your system. You might also try setting VSync from "off" to "on." This helped end most of the stutters on my machine.
  17. The observation balloons are not consistent in OFF. Allied balloons are generally easy to destroy with only a short burst. German balloons, OTOH, are very difficult to destroy, often requiring two or three passes. I have been able to toughen up the Allied balloons somewhat by increasing their hit point values, but I have been largely unsuccessful in making the German balloons any easier.
  18. Wild guess here. Are your font sizes set to normal dpi?
  19. Wow! The master's workshop! Excellent!
  20. I can't think of any reason why my IDM would lock up your computer in the middle of a mission. All I've done is changed the value of some text files. No reason for a driver to lock up.
  21. That's odd, BigJim. Can you give me more details? When does OFF lock up? While loading or during a mission? Also, sometimes you have to go to Workshop and reset your screen resolution using the Graphics Config button after installing the DM.
  22. Thanks, guys. I'm sure I also speak for FB when I say that we don't mean to take anything away from OBD. Nor could we. All of the credit for the graphics and the DM goes to them, not to me and FB. THEY were the ones who originally played around with the CFS3 DM files, added many cool graphics, and plugged them into the game. Indeed, it is a tribute to them that despite all of this work that they have resisted the temptation to say, "Hey, look what we can do--ain't it purty?" and waited for the ooohs and ahhhhs from the arcade shooter fans at the expense of a realistic WWI simulation. Their vision has been to make OFF as realistic as possible as a tribute to all who fought and died in the Great War, and they have remained true to that vision, I think. My hat is off to them. Salute!
  23. Yep. Zoomed in one notch and the border was gone.
