Pol, it's understood, that more model variations and detail would take time & resources and so may have to be postponed until P5. Absolutely understandable. That the D III is not better than the D II is a drawback that should be eliminated. I'd much rather follow the observations of Manfred von Richthofen there, instead of Cecil Lewis, who may not have flown the various types intensively.

Pol, I just had a fight against Nieuport 17 Lewis at 11.000 feet. Not yet the ceiling alt. for the D III, but whilst the Nupes happily turned and tossed about, and chewed up my tail, I was trying not to stall an aircraft, that seemed to run on soap instead of fuel. I have read the NASA report about WW1 fighters and want to show the link and an excerpt here: http://www.hq.nasa.g...P-468/ch2-2.htm A comparison of the data given (...) for the Albatros D-III and the Nieuport 17 leads to some interesting speculation. Although the D-III was heavier and had more wing area and a more powerful engine than the Nieuport, the values of the wing loading and the power loading for the two aircraft are not greatly different. Furthermore, the values of the zero-lift drag coefficient and the maximum liftdrag ratio are about the same. These two aircraft can therefore be considered to have about equal aerodynamic efficiency and, accordingly, to exhibit about the same performance characteristics. In fact, the maximum speeds (...) are about the same although the altitudes at which the speeds were measured are somewhat different. Since, for small altitude variations, the decrease in drag that accompanies the reduction in air density is about offset by the reduction in power with altitude, the speed comparison of the two aircraft (...) is valid. Values of the time required to climb to various altitudes are also about the same for the two aircraft at the lower altitudes (...); however, the climbing capability of the Albatros is clearly superior to that of the Nieuport above 10 000 feet. This plus the heavier armament of the Albatros are no doubt responsible for the generally accepted opinion that it was a more effective fighter than the Nieuport 17. Pol, I am not the type that complains easily, cause he just had an unlucky sortie, so it would be nice and polite, if you would regard it with a little more seriousness. The dev team have read and regarded older notes of the users about the SPAD, the Pfalz D III and most recently, the DH-5. As far as I could see, all these aircraft FM were slightly modified for the better. The only craft, that show 'misbehaviour' to me now, are the Albatros D III and D V. You know, I really love OFF. So when I'm writing this, it's only to make a Super Sim even better. Perhaps the team can have a serious look at those FM again? Thanks for reading.

Ahem - that was a Nupe 28, Widowmaker. But who cares after what you have done with it. Reminds me of an old joke. It can be changed on the aircraft here. It goes: "What's the difference between a Nupe 17 and a Nupe 28?" Answer: "The Nupe 28 will burn longer." -
Nope, Morris - the colour shemes and decals are for these Albatros D.Va: 1. "Stropp" (pilot not clear), Jasta 46 2. Lothar Weiland, Seefrontstaffel (Seefrosta) 1 3. Hans Joachim Hippel, Jasta 71 4. von Hunoldstein (?), Jasta 14 5. Werner Niethammer, Jasta 13 Jasta 71 tail does look similar to Jasta 6.

Jarhead: Unfortunately, in my line of work (logistics), the Marine Corps has a tendency to send us to all the fun places. I thought that was the general tendency for the Marine Corps. -
Hey, wow! Congratulations from the heart, CJ ! Now you may sometimes wonder if you're getting old. In such moments I always say to myself: "No one wants to get old. But no one wants to die early either..." That will be another chance to enjoy childhood once again.

Thanks, Barkhorn. Here is some more. The Benefits of Flying with an Elite Unit The second sortie with Jasta 4 was again a clash with SPAD XIII. And again they came from high above, down on my flight, while 1. Flight fought more SPADs higher. I did my very best and killed 2 of the bulky, sturdy power pigs. But then I had one directly in my neck. I escaped by pushing the nose and rolling left, both very hard, and he overshot. Now I was chased round and round by two of the French. I hit both, but they remained intact. What could I do now? And here, like the cavallery, came A-flight. Von Doring's Fokker Dreidecker suddenly appeared in front of my damaged bird, as if he had jumped off a cloud, and he shot the French up badly, dancing around him like a wasp. The French tried to break away left, but there was von Doring's one wingman. On the other side waited the other. The SPAD had no chance. Von Doring made minced meat of him with acrobatic art. I was so grateful. We flew a bit side by side. Then more SPADs came down vertically, and we got separated. I had no ammo left, and so I improvised a hasty landing at Bapaume airfield. But I'm alive! -
Some things that might help: - switch off program control in your Anti-Virus program for the time you fly - make Windows run TrackIR prior-ranking (don't know the right expression - perhaps someone can help) - try to increase "smoothness" in TrackIR

Dear Dev Team Here are some observations I made - perhaps you could consider them for P4 ? Since short time, I am flying the Albatros D.III early, right after flying the D.II in the Full DiD Campaign "Krauts vs Crumpets". Hadn't compared the two before really. Now it seems to me, that the D.III is slightly less manoeuverable than the D.II, which it shouldn't. Then I tried the D.V yesterday after the D.III, and I got the impression, it was slightly clumsier. Which it shouldn't be - after all I've read, it wasn't much of an improvement, but still a little. Also, one thing that should be looked at is the roll-rate-drop after just one or two hits in the wing. It seems to happen EVERY time - you get two holes, and the roll rate goes down the drain. I mean, if the aileron cable was hit and snapped, the roll would really go to hell. But how small is the chance to hit that with two or three rounds? And if only the wing surface is punctured, it wouldn't inflict the roll rate much at all. Perhaps you could have a new look at that for P4 development?

Clouds are no problem - tried that. Pushed them up to five, and it's fine there!

Wow, Jarhead - after seeing your "collection", I withdraw - my above was only killing time. (I seriously mean that, usafmtl - mine was not what I would regard as really serving). -
A little program I am working on...

My above directory is a VISTA one, Herr Prop-Wasche. ACRONIS True Image Home is payware, you get it for around 42,- Euro at AMAZON here. But there are also other BackUp Programms. With such a program, you can backup your drives, your whole computer, or only parts of drives - as you like. You can later make "incremental backups", which only add the newer stuff to an old backup. Very useful for making sure, you never loose important stuff. Your special one would of course have the advantage, that it would do the job alone, without everyone knowing and finding their file directories. -
For me, the air activity is never the problem. Like Creaghorn said - near the sea it works best. And what is there, near the sea? Half or a third of the map is just plain water surface. I have less frps in the Marne region, where there are more trees. And in Alsace's very woody regions, they get lowest. Try reducing Scenery Detail Slider, and also the density of ground objects in "Workshop". Also helpful in souther regions is to reduce the Terrain Detail slider. It will still look good. Creaghorn, what graphic card do you use? I have an ATI 4870 and could send you my settings for that.

Well, you need to back up these files for your pilots: (Your game folder) > campaigns > CampaignData > pilots And both UnlimitedPilots.xml, I think. One is on C: (your computer name) > app. data > roaming > microsoft > CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields > unlimitedpilots.xml The other is in the sim folder. Now I don't want to destroy your pleasure, but what I recently do is: I make backups onto an external drive of the pilots folder , and the microsoft folder with ACRONIS BACKUP. That should do, shouldn't it? But if your prog does it automatically, and right and well - then I'd be interested. -

After sneaking around Jasta 4 (great Staffel, but ugly spiral design), I have made me a skin to suit them and joined them. April 1918, Cappy - we went higher than I ever had gone before; one Fokker Triplane and lots of D.Va in a dramatic sky. Thought I show some pics here. We got engaged by lots of SPAD XIII with a good advantage of height. I shot one down, before I got hit myself. I descended steeply banked in a suicidal side slip (better than breaking a wing), until I had gone down to an airfield. But the ground gunners there were lousy and din't shoot the SPADs down. I had to put my crippled bird down near the field, and survived with one kill. -

Don't know if the compulsary military service counts here; I have been in the army for only one year. After the general basic training, I was sent to the artillery. We had the American howitzers, I think they were called M 110. First they put me into an office job, which I hated so much, that I wanted to change. My test results were good, so they asked me what I would like to do (big honour!). We had Unimog vans with radio-teletypers, to receive the target orders with all the data like wind direction and force, target distance and location etc. So I chose that, and it was a great job. We even used encrypter/decrypter machines we would laugh about today - they were as big as a PC. -

Yer right, BOBDAV - I obviously compressed the wrong files; the Photoshop skins. Sorry for that; now I uploaded the dds-files; may take a while, cause the admins need to check the files, before they can be downloaded. My brain is only scrambled eggs recently... -

They are zipped (compressed) files. Right-click on a file, then choose "extract here". After that, move the file here: (your game folder) > campaigns > CampaignData > skins -

Good to hear, trek! Remain above and aloft! I just wonder: are you already in the OFF Forum Pilots maps (sorry, can't memorise all names)? If not, perhaps you send me a PM with your town and country; I'll put you in there. Cheers! -
Well, knowing it's you, Widowmaker - you can't possibly expect an Englishman to follow the rules, except at Cricket, Snooker and football. (No, forget football). Spot on, Lou! And I'd like to replace just one word: ...do what you believe KNOW in your heart is right... Cause we all know very well, I think.

Well, we all know, that the 'previous president' was not so well regarded in Europe; but that was not the case in the USA; so again: a bit more respect for other people's views could do us all good. By blaming a president - no matter which one - we make it too easy for ourselves. Blame the guy for this or that, call him bad names etc. - that all gives the man too much importance. In a democracy, there are so many more forces active - no president can get away with a bad idea, if the others don't let him get away with it.
