  1. I took the time and made another "airfield graphic" - this time of "Vert Galant". I thought I had made one long ago, but couldn't find the post nor the graphic. However - here is the new one. Enjoy!
  2. Yes, I guess I know what you mean, Robert. Places like that have their own energy; it can raise your neck hair. I had such a moment, when I explored a German MG bunker in the Normandy. Soldiers were literally standing in the shadows behind me. OvS had a very similar experience right there! (I hope you will re-appear here some day, James!)
  3. Just stumbled across one post, that might explain what keeps the devs so long. If this is one of the reasons - wow, then I'll wait patiently... http://combatace.com/topic/37650-aerodromes/?do=findComment&comment=254866
  4. Not knowing too much about the American Civil War, I went through some video sequences at YouTube. Found some reenactment scenes, and then this bit with Robert Duvall as Lee. I find he played it just grand. This short scene creates goose skin on me; it seems to tell so much about a big tragedy yet to happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsW5GHRR02k
  5. How many reenactors would take part on each side aproximately, Shiloh? Seems like a big event? I wonder how a blue reenactor feels when he's aiming and "firing" at a grey one; and how do the "Rebels" feel about it?
  6. Have some fun and watch the battle reenactment on a New Zealand Airshow. The Fokker Triplane's Lozenge maybe rather wrong; never seen any on that plane. But watch for example the difference between the Camel's left and right turn. The Fokker wins, cause Gene deMarco had parts coming off of his Camel - which wasn't a planned stunt but an accident! Good, that he is such a good "Camel Jockey" - he made it back to the ground with no injuries. Enjoy!
  7. I use an AddBlocker and never have such things happening.
  8. Well, the title says it all - book is coming soon.
  9. Dej, you surely are one of those people who'd deserve the first price - but with this guess I can only hope you WON'T win! Sorry, mate!
  10. FLYING THE... "The Vintage Aviator", New Zealand, offer several pilot reports about flying various WW1 aircraft replicas. Enjoy! http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/sitemap
  11. They were all blade runners - at least the scorers.
  12. ...and so often do we think, everyone else is well off and easy going. But when the clouds are passing over, then there is shadow, not sunlight. Take care, guys - all of you!
  13. Kepp the cigars, Erik - but where's that brandy you mentioned? ... Ah, clever - in this thick mockup book! "THE GREAT WAR"... Good one!
  14. Seems they really had designed official German tropical uniforms - I just found this picture at this link: http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/forum/showthread.php?33910-WWI-German-Band-in-Palestine/page2
  15. Just found this photo of Fliegerabteilung 300 "Pascha" at the Buddecke Website . The unit was established in Palestine in early 1916. Now I wonder wether all these "tropical uniforms" were real military designs? Or did they just add tropical helmets? Does anyone know?
  16. Seems the last 12 months contained quite some bad luck for both of you, for the OBD Team as well as for Erik. I wish you all, that this was all of the bad things to share, and that a luckier, happier time may come for you all. Lou, no need to appologise, me thinks. It IS funny - and I bet the devs already integrated your calendar into their time scheduling. Gives them so much more time, space and freedom! Mmuahahahahahaaaa!!!! PS: the OFF design is back! The link to the downloads works again!
  17. This OFF Forum is an OFF-Pilots-Forum since some time now, and I think you are right: it may give you and us more freedom and less rules. I know the "wolf pack" around here can handle that; they behave quite decent most of the time ("Hey, you eaglet over there, I can see you! Put that beer down and don't touch it again, or I'll come over there!"). Errh - where was I? Well, all interaction, requests and assistence from your end has always been finest, and the whole design and handling of this place is more than just one step beyond many other places I know. In one line: I'm glad you and us can and will carry on together. PS: in our family we use the same saying your granny did. ("Now where's that beer? Where did that feller go, chaps?!")
  18. A nice idea, Erik - and a hard guess! Damn, that's a good date to choose, Crossbones - may be quite likely. On the other hand, the devs may not be working with fixated deadlines? So what should I pick... Well, I don't know, but I'll go for 10 October 2013.
  19. One of my earlier OFF pilots served from May to August 1918, with Jasta 9. Leutnant Mahlo became Hauptmann in the rather short time, and he collected a lot of victories (over 40 if I remember right). He finally fell in a collision with a SPAD in a fierce fight. I still remember him as if I had been there - he was probably my most immersive OFF pilot. Here is one of his "Reports from the Front" - if you like reading, you'll find more before and after this one, until his obituary. http://combatace.com/topic/37518-off-bhah-reports-from-the-front/page-4?do=findComment&comment=288784
  20. Ah, that's good to hear, that we won't get "kicked out" of this great place completely, Erik - thank you!
  21. I just tried to post a new thread, but I wasn't allowed anymore. Is this just an error on my end, or is it the end of our OFF community here at CombatAce?
  22. So good old Henry Wollett is still around, I see? We used to have a tackle or two. When you look at Ernst Udet's victories, you'll find he made 46 of his 62 victories in 1918, when he could fly the D.VII or the Siemens-Schuckert. Maybe many German aces made their highest scores in the late war. But it was impossible to win - you witnessed it: waves of Entente aircraft... And the risk of the high-scorers is so much higher too - remember Werner Voss...
  23. Oh no! ...
  24. My English seems to fail me here - didn't get it???
  25. ...and more! New material added to Buddecke website. http://www.buddecke.de/neu.htm
