  1. I ditto, what Parky and others said. It shouldn't appear "easy" - I mean, sometimes in campaign, you also have rookies, like those 2 Nupe 17 yesterday, who made the mistake to approach our 3 Albatros D Va, with only a little advantage in height, and I killed both within 3 minutes. But on the other hand, you should see flights, that split up, some attacking, the others going up, to come down on you with more advantage. And aces often do special manoeuvers; more tricky. But off course: as soon as you can hit a craft severely, it will often not be able anymore to perform agile manoeuvers. You can let it fly on and pick the next, when there's a furball. As long as you manage, not to get hit yourself, it can go "almost easy" - but so often have I thought just that for a sec - and "sprazzle" - was I hit from some unexpected angle. My advice: - Pick a "non-top plane", like the Albatros D V or D Va, or an S.E.5a, or a Nieuport 17. - Fly a campaign in late 1917, or in 1918. "Radar" and target cone off; all most realistic/hard. - pick a Jasta/Squad, that's offensive and in the tough combat areas. - survive 17 flight hours If that should still feel "easy" all the time, there is either something still wrong with your install, or you can put yourself in front of a mirror and look at an ace (Lol!) But try first...
  2. Flown all Albatros, all other fighters a little bit; no two-seaters yet. But I'll start a Roland C II campaign, and then report here again. Should be some relaxing, to switch over to rear gunner, after one or two fighter sorties - those are really exhausting or tiring for me.

  4. Ditto - addicted may be the right word, sworn in fits it military wise. And, Rick - with an Alby, I don't need SEVERAL good bursts on a Nieuport. I give them ONE, and then go on to the next. The plane hit WILL crash. That way, ammo lasts longer (although: I have already 1.000 rounds). I let my wings cover my back, and finish one Nupe after the other off. (No, was just teasing. I have to learn completely new - still make SO many mistakes. Without TIR, I'd be lost now...)
  5. Now I realise, I'm not the only Albatros pilot round here. THAT'S GOOD ! And that you others have some much more refined tactics than I had ever thought of. (that's bad...) But I will copy the most usefull lines and bits, and compile me a tactical advisory. Thank you all so far - really good stuff!

  7. Hi, DOWLEY welcome here. To the other posters here, I repeat it once again (does anyone READ the posts of the others?): On that thread WASN'T only bashing. The bashing was rather some pages back. The newer pages contained rather FRIENDLY views. And if this talk about bashing goes on here, I'll get me some spray cans and spray it all over the screen! (No - on second thoughts... Lol!)
  8. Hey, Gim... ahh! - UncleAl ! Perhaps you should do that sticky with basic commands, tipps and tricks here again, as you had done in the olde forum. There seem to be many newbies around. PS: target cone is "I" or "shift+I" - whatever you want to use or change: press "escape" ingame, then in the menue appearing on the right, choose "controls", and there they all are. You shouldn't try to change them (that won't work), better choose "add assignment", and then press the button you want to use. After that, you can delete the old assignment (but must not - you can have keyboard keys and joystick buttons with the same assignment). OOOPS! You have it already up there! Sorry, UncleAl - maybe I need glasses like yours soon, too...
  9. Hey, Rickitycrate Barbequeing is not allowed on board any military planes, by all means! (Thought, you knew that? - Lol!) And: it happened to me several times. too. Midair collisions. Sideward stalls near ground. Crash landings, cause I couldn't give up a fight, after being damaged already, and so collected more rounds. Getting shot up by the twins guns of the observer of a Strutter, although I had sworn, never to attack those again. And, and, and...

  11. I've just looked in there at page 1 (you linked to page 3, RABU), and the reactions sounded rather very positve. The sim was recommendet by some. But I'll have a closer look this evening, to check. And if I find it necessary, I'll post in there to put some views right.
  12. Yesterday, I had this odd situation: I tried to make a flight, but couldn't get to the field. I clicked "go to field", there came a weather report, then that voice: "Contact! Clear!" But then I was back at the briefing board. I tried it several times, with all three pilots I had, and even drove down and restarted the whole system, but no way. In the end, I could only click "reset cfs3".All worked fine again after that, but my pilots were gone. So I'd like to know, if and how they could be backed up - for such worst case scenarios?
  13. Hi, all ! Knowing very well, that some Albatros versions wouldn't be my first choice, if I would have to fight a real air combat, I'm still in love with this bird. But I would really like to know, how you others experience her (all versions). When you're flying her: what are your most successful manoeuvers against which opponent plane? Who's your worst opponent? What do you avoid? Against which planes would you take up fighting even if it's 1 against 2 ? When you fight her: Which is your plane, and what are your most successful manoeuvers? Does it take much ammo to damage or down her? Which manoeuvers can she do better than you - what do you avoid? Would you take up fighting her, when it's 1 against 2 ?
  14. Some stuff written here is wrong or distorted; so I looked up some sources. Sopwith Triplane introd. November 1916; produced: 152; top speed: 188 km/h; climb at low alt: 5 m/sec Fokker Dr.1 Introduced: August 1917; produced: 320; top speed: 165 km/h; 5,5 m/sec The early structural problems of the Dr.1 were solved, when the plane re-entered service in December 1917. There was NO wiring on it for wing stabilisation - just the vertival struts. When you think about the fact, that the Tripe was replaced by the Camel, and that the Dr.1 could out-turn the Camel, I know, which plane I would choose. (But still: it's like comparing the Albatros D III with the Sopwith Camel - senseless; due to different dev. time) If I could pick time and plane to survive and collect kills in WW1, in OFF's offer of types, this would be my choices (first and second): Britain: Camel, S.E. Germany: D VII, Dr.1 France/US: SPAD XIII, SPAD VII And if some of you ask me now, why I always fly the Albatros - love cannot be explained (Lol!)
  15. Wow, great shot, Rickitycrate! Yes, you will like TrackIR after short time. First, I didn't know, it had "precision" choice. But now, I have modified the curves for it's action/reaction in a very good way; and I've put "precision" on a thumb knob of the stick. Whe you press it, it is, as if you stiffen up yourself and you neck. You can't look around so quick then, but your shooting is much easier. When you get used to switching there and back, you'll find it a great improvement! When you get TrackIR, I can send screenshots from my curves. You can, off course, save your own modified curves/set ups; but you can also use pre-shaped ones - from "smooth" to "aggressive".
  16. Hey, MK2 That's interesting info. I have so far started the same three Jastas/time periods again and again. Mostly in bad weather. Now, this could be something completely different. Summer weather, lots of planes, action pure! Jasta 11, I'm coming to you in mid-1918!
  17. Morane Parasol would be an equal opponent for the Eindecker; so more people would fly those early birds. Fokker VI and off course VIII (I voted for the VIII) Sopwith Dolhin and Snipe. Siemens-Schuckert. Yes - like Rickitycrate says - I want them all. But cool down, Winder - this version now will last me for at least one and a half years.

  21. Zoomzoom, I saw one of my wingies go down over the enemy side od the mud; he made an emergency landing; something with the engine, I thought. When I had flown on and he had become a white spec on the "radar", I marked the spec, and switched F4, 'till I saw him. Although he couldn't fly anymore, he was now motoring on, determined to reach our side of the lines. Perhaps an explanation... (Lol!) This thread became a very good one through you all, and many of you I'd like to have there with me in a fight as my wingmen.

My imagination kept me engrossed for hours. Do so, Cameljockey, as much as possible! Otherwise, you'd have regrets later. Happy birthday, mate - 50 was a thoughtful step for me.   25. There you go again, about that Snipe, WIDOW. You know, that the Germans then ask for the Fokker D VIII. And the you look old again! (Lol!!!) (What's that funny looking guy under your posts doing - is he recruiting for his Kasakh air force?) ChrispDM1, there is sometimes intel info in the campaigns, below the actual flight order panel. You must click on the words "intelligence report" or something like that, below. As for the Squads or Jastas: you see, when you pick a Squad., what planes they will fly through the war. And when you click through the time, you can enter service, when they have the plane you desire. Also, you can thereby find the Squads, who get a plane earliest. Or read, which aces flew there when. Someone wrote, before BHaH, that he copied his pilot file from one Squad to another, but I'm not the man to ask, how exactly. But might still be possible.
