  1. Hi, Rick Thanks for the idea. I need to survive long enough though, to do that. My idea was meant rather for others. I myself alway join Jastas, were the action is. But I'll recreate "Ernst Mahlo" now, and try a very serious "war survival tour". Hey, Mighty were in the sim is that "Ritz / young girls" section you mention? Neither found it in campaign nor QC (Lol!) Quote: A very peaceful existence indeed, although the temptation to go and dive bomb Clacton is beginning to prey on my mind a little. Hahaha!!! Good one - time for France, I'd say!
  2. Hey, MK2 - you seem to be the "crazy neighbour", I (and Rickitycrate) always wanted but never had. When I came up with ideas like this, the guys rather responded with shrugs. Often I think, I was born in the totally wrong country. Maybe the stork came out of a warp wrong. I feel, I should have been delivered to Cornwall or somewere near (Polperro would have been nice...) I didn't even know, Dawn Patrol was a board game, before the sim came. This looks incredible, and like a helluvalot of excitement. Thanks for sharing, MK2!
  3. I post in here again (although I had already in the main thread), cause I hope it to be noticed more. This paint job is so nice, it inspired me for another Albatros with a very similar design (if I may, Gous?)
  4. Were, HOOD, were... Days of youth; teeth of time, etc. (Lol!!!) You took a good look, DEJ - the pics would really belong in that order, that Wolfram would be before Detlev. Perhaps I even change the pilots/Jastas.
  5. Yes, Siggi, English campaign must be hard in parts. I had started one, but the flights were long from St.Omer, befor we even reached the front. And then, we had to go deep into German terrain even. But I'll start another, and maybe use warp more.
  6. Hi, Cameljockey! Yes, 1918 is damn tough. I have started a carrer there with Jasta 15, at Bonneuil Ferme, April 1918. We fly Albatros D Va, and it's a bit like with the Bf 109 late versions - they made them stronger, but couldn't get much improvement out of them anymore. But I will do my very best to get better with her. And the lady still could bite (The D Va has 1.100 rounds)! Since I changed my behaviour (I'm doing the wingman for my wings now - I really save their asses all the time!), I see a chance to make it through April, day after day. We are mostly confronting SPAD XIII, and they are no big problem, as long as they don't outnumber us too much. It's even fun - the crazy extasy of the moribund...
  7. Dammit - this didn't work for me (I'm in the web with an old rig with Windows 98 on board). Davy, I rely on you. You'll get me/us informed when it will be shown on the newsgroups board?
  8. Hey, Siggi and tttiger - maybe you two are more similar than you both think. At least you both seem to be of similar temper. So you both have seen real fighting - and now choose different behaviour here. Nothing wrong with that, I'd say. I could even imagine, that both ways have advantages and disadvantages. I said it somewere before, and perhaps Winder or Pol could clear it up: I suppose, that your going up in ranks is faster, when you execute your orders best possible. And your kill tally will go up faster, when you more often decide to mess with enemy fighters. For me, both didn't get very far though: I haven't yet survived more than 5 missions (had to reset the sim and restart all pilots after last patch). But I won't give up...
  9. This is just a thought - haven't tried yet, if it works. But: I realised, when going through the choice of Jastas, that some are labeled as "defensive". They are often based further away from the front lines. Could it be, that they really do only defensive flights? Over own territory? (Winder? Pol?) Cause, if that is true, it would be the perfect choice for longer life and more flight hours. And still though, they should meet enemies now and then? Ernst Udet was in a defensive Jasta later on - perhaps his luck; so he survived the war.
  10. Todt von oben - you're either an extremely optimistic pilot, or haven't read about the Eindecker here. When you encounter little or no enemies - better be glad about that. But your goal: make it from start of flying ops to Armistace day alive." - I haven't yet managed to make the 17 hours (maybe my choices of Jastas is always in the very tough sectors).
  11. Thank you, Red-Dog, but the ALLMIGHTY beware us - me as a god - the world is in enough chaos! I forgot in the above: after putting the picture together, and reducing them to one layer, you can off course change it back to RGB colour, and add a tint of brown or grey-blue, or yellowish.
  12. Hi, MK2 - if you like the SPAD, you might like the D VII more than the Dr.1? Tried it?
  13. You lucky blighters! But there's hope for me - sometimes BBC programs get translated and shown here.
  14. Why not have your very own personal picture in your pilot log? I couldn't resist - working with Photoshop, I had to do it! I chose some pilot pics from the folder "campaign" > "campaign data" > "pilot photos" > "German" Also I found some old passport photos from the time, when I was 30 - 35 (not any younger ones found). Now, I cut out my faces, and threw them into the pilot photos. I reduced both on grey tones, and then experimented with contrast, brightness, sharpness etc. With patience and some retouch, the pics below came out. (Well, one was known already). I'm sure, you can get to some results with other programs like Corel Photopaint or similar, too. Make always sure, the final format you save it, is .bmp; and keep the size the before picture had. Next step: you want to find out the pilot number of the guy, you want to replace. If he is "pilot3.bmp", you go to the above folder with the pics, and copy that pilot to the desktop. Then you rename the file to "pilotX3.bmp" (that way, you can later reactivate him). Now, you name the newly created pilot "pilot3.bmp" and put him into that folder. Done! Hope, many of you will try this. I will assist you, when you have questions (as far as I can). Perhaps, we'll soon see most of you here - I'd be happy with that! Cheers. Olham
  15. OVER50, it WILL work with glasses - don't worry. You may just have to experiment with the light in your room. There is a window, showing the three reflecting points from your cap device, when you adjust it. Only when I have a bright light on in front of me, two red dots appear (reflections from the metal frame of my glasses). But the sensitivity can even be adjusted as Winder said. You don't need to worry - it will work! And you wouldn't miss TrackIR, once you got it, I promise!
  16. Remember, you won't see damage at the highest resolution for the aircraft ! (see: workshop) And try it in campaign. I have just returned from a fight against SPAD XIII - one just exploded from a severe burst. In the HARDCORE version that was.
  17. I start in Jastas, were the plane type I want comes earliest. For the Albatros D II (in fact it would correctly be a D I there), that was Jasta 2, in September 1916. So I have an equal or superiour fighter - for the fun factor! My rank is mostly Leutnant - just sounds best (Lol!) I had to laugh all the way through the post - how Siggi got bashed for making differing decisions. As a German, I don't get rockets. And without rockets or bombs, I won't do ground attacks. But as they are ordered, we go there, I mark the target, and order: Attack to my wings. I cover the attack. I let them do just one strafe and then call them back, and off we are. And for the evangelic work ethic - this ain't work - it's war. When I'm the flight leader, I take EVERY chance to get envolved in a fight with fighters FIRST - arhrrm! I mean, we always get attacked by someone from somewere. They may lurk in a very distance. But I KNOW, they will come after us - so I better fly right there to them first (Lol!) I'm a fighter pilot. They didn't make me Flight lead for nothing. I must have deserved it. And as long as I'm the leader, I will fight this war my way. (My wings have never complained, and they collected quite some nice kills, too.)
  18. For a while today, I was pretty upset - I had messed up BHaH somehow. Trying to get into a campaign flight, I got tons of messages, telling me, skins couldn't be found. So I finally did the desperate step - reset CFS3 and BHaH. All pilots gone again. Sigh! (It turned out later, that the problem must have occured, cause I had one self-changed skin of an Albatros D Va given an uncomplete name. Could be the reason.) When everything worked again, I created new pilots, for Halberstadt, D II, D III early, D V and D Va, each one. I started with Wolfram "Wolf" Mahlo, Jasta 15, Bonneuil Ferme, on 26. April, 1918. Soon, my flight with three wingmen came across 3 SPAD XIII, high above us. I climbed towards them, until they attacked. And this time, I remained cool. Marked a target and ordered "attack". The wings immediately reacted. I now acted as THEIR protector/wingman, and shot rounds into each SPAD attacking them. After short time, all 3 had been hit by me. Only once I had to press "Help", and my 1. wingman, Emil von der Ziegler, appeared and helped me out. When the wings had one SPAD downed, I marked another for them, and attacked the third myself. Von der Ziegler stayed with me now. An incredible up-down-and-everywere began with the SPAD - it's unbelievable, how fast and powerful they are. But they can't and shouldn't turnfight. He learned that the hard way, and won't have more time to use it. I had hit him so hard, he pulled a trail of smoke. I followed and shortened distance. Didn't want to waste more ammo on him. And really - suddenly he lay on his back and crashed into a little wood. When I returned to my other two wings, they had just finished off the last SPAD. From now on, "Wolf" Mahlo will always do it that way. Very satisfying!
  19. Hi, Rickitycrate Your German "translation" of your avatar name just made me laugh (and that did me good!). "Rachitisch" is especially for a noise, the lungs produce, when you're seriously ill. Better for a name, and saying the same as in your name: Klapprig, wackelig "Kiste" is by no means a German first name, and I don't know any name near that. Also, German names don't end on "ig" often, but rather "ich". So, if we would distort the whole a bit, to get a German sounding name, you could be Karl Klapprich, or Walter Wackliger. If you want... Have fun! Olham
  20. Hey, good looking! You didn't use "smashing" colours - that makes it look real and impressive to me. Great job, Gous - keep them coming!
  21. REDWOLF, what would you expect Winder to say to your "confusion" by his offers? It seemed, after the first patch, that many found the sim too difficult. Now, the devs offer more choice. But could they tell you, what you should be happy with? Would you like it most realistic, or more fun? I think, the most realistic settings would be "hard", the next step down is "normal". Everything else is, at the name says already, "easy". The choice: more "downing planes" fun, or working out a realistic combat pilot; cannot be made for you. No reason to feel shame, when you pick "normal" or even "easy", for learning and growing. I show you my settings here - they are not yet all on most difficult. But that's my aim, one day. And I chose the Hardcore overpatch - it feels more realistic to me (and MY plane is also more stabile!)
  22. No, Parky. I got a HOTAS Cougar, but then I'd have to fly with rudders, which I have tried out, but found almost impossible so far (perhaps need adjustment?) So, I returned to my THRUSTMASTER T.FLIGHT for now. I don't want to try something NEW all the time; I'd like to ARRIVE somewere, and get to grips with fighting planes. Pol, you must be right - I may have switched the warnings off accidently in CFS3 config. Thanks.
  23. Hey, Red-Dog, did you "paint" that little doggie on your plane? It's cute (far too cute for this kind of job though).
  24. Yes, I had exploding SPADs, folding up two-seaters, tumbling down Nieuports. And it feels more realistic to me, that they can't be shot up so easily anymore. It hasn't become too hard now - just a little harder. And you can always overpatch it with the "normal" patch again. But I definitely prefer this now.
  25. No big thing: when I plan the flight, I check, how far the total round trip is. When it says "60 miles", I fill in petrol for 90 miles, to have a safety plus. But often, when I warped, it didn't last till return to base. Okay, I had fights on the way - but that's what I filled in the safety plus for. Any ideas, what goes wrong there?
