Thanks! I really love the A-7, a true workhorse for the USN for a lot of years!

You're welcome! I just like these old videos because it's neat for me to see how things were done then in comparison to how things are done now. I also like seeing how engineering and technology worked back then too.

  2. I remember reading about something called a method used by US Pilots in Vietnam where they dove to the ground and then pulled up sharply while the SAM with poor maneuvering crashed to the ground. What was that technique called?

  3. I'm not an avid NASCAR fan I do appreciate the sport and think some of the technology involved in it is cool. The fact they're racing in the mud and rain sounds interesting.

On side note, when I was younger, the Go-Kart track in town had a Mark Martin Kart ... it was the fastest one on the track :)

I never knew how much strategy went into the sport until I played Chase for Cup. I know it's weird that I like playing the game but not sitting there watching the races.

I saw this post just now about what happened a few hours ago on a flight LA to ATL

    From Imgur post:

“The man made an announcement that we needed to be close to our oxygen masks & proceeded to try & open the door. They then called all the “strong men” to the front of the plane to restrain him. We ended up landing in OKC as it was the closest airport to us…. Update: he was trying to open the door to the outside not the cockpit”

  5. I'm working on a report about Bessie Coleman and I keep coming across how an Ace helped her out. I can't find anything that said who they were. It just said she found an Ace near France that helped sharpen her skills. Since, she was black I would figure the Ace would be black therefore I'm coming up with Eugene Bullard a WW1 French Ace that died in New York 1961. So history buffs is there a way to verify who the Ace is?

I also have William Robinson Clarke and  Ahmet Ali Çelikten all are Aces that could have taught Bessie Coleman her additional skills.

    Microsoft Set To Purchase CombatACE

It's no secret Microsoft is looking to expand its services and enhance overall user experience by purchasing companies such as Discord. While such moves may seem obvious to most, one move Microsoft is making has many in the tech industry wondering about the things Microsoft is planning next. To the members here at CombatACE are familiar with developers such as ThirdWire and Eagle Dynamics. Earlier this month Microsoft attempted to purchase Eagle Dynamics and take over the DCS World many have to come to love. However Eagle Dynamics told Microsoft to step off and tinker with their little flight simulator. Microsoft angrily shook their fist at Eagle Dynamics and then pointed to a lone developer somewhere in Texas and announced they would purchase his humble company called ThirdWire.

When it comes to big companies like Microsoft purchasing companies like ThirdWire a lot of footwork is done. While doing their research Microsoft learned about other sites they can buy to enhance their user experience. CombatACE is the top of their list and Microsoft is pleased to see a humble community filled with amazing people, programmers, and mod developers. "It's like all these things we wanted rolled into one little package" said William J Tinsdale Vlll "CombatACE will make a fine addition to our collection."

But what will this mean for the users at CombatACE? To answer that question we reached out to the man himself. @Erik "Well at first I was against it" Erik stated "We built a thriving community for ourselves and not some corporate giant just to come in and take over and do whatever they want with it." So, okay, so why is Microsoft buying CombatACE if that's the case? "When someone offers you a free slightly used $200 million private jet with a full crew, free fuel, and millions of dollars for the pocket. You just gotta ask where to sign you know. Besides do you know how hard it is to run a website as large as CombatACE on a daily basis? It's rewarding work but it's hard work and if Microsoft want's to take over I'm cool with that. This jet is awesome and I have a surprise for all of the long time members here. They can get 1 free trip."

    Looking nice there man!

"Regardless of the direction Microsoft chooses to take" Erik explains "they've assured me they'll continue to maintain the aspects that make CombatACE a great website. It is my hopes the community will continue to thrive and that people will get a kick out of this obvious April Fool's article entirely made up by Skyviper"

Seriously @Erik, @MK2 , Mod Developers, CombatACE Staff and Members, thank you for making this site the awesome place it is.

  7. The B-52 Stratofortress or "BUFF"

     VucPWOk.jpg

At the end of WW2 the USAAF was looking for a better aircraft to execute bombing missions. Boeing was awarded the contract to build what would become the B-52. This video will quickly tell you the B-52's history. Feel free to share your thoughts about this aircraft, video, and other aircraft in the comments below. Thank you for watching.

    you know, right??

also, having been inside 2 actual B-17s, I don't remember them being so roomy !!

First that's cool that you were in a B-17

Second I was thinking that myself. Boy that sure is a lot of room in that thing.

Do ball turrets open up like that? I think they wouldn't unless they needed to. Other than it looks like a solid entertaining movie I'll have to pass on. I don't like scary stuff.

Jokes aside, reverse engineering is not the same as writing code, and it may well be against the EULA, if not done for personal use only. We're not allowed to reverse engineer SF2 and make something out of that code.

To answer the question above, nobody knows exactly which languages were used to create SF2, we would need the source code for this (not happening, so forget about it). For sure, we know that shaders (and those can be tweaked) have been written in HLSL, but the rest of the game and its engine are using proprietary technology, most likely written in C++. Other bits might have required different libraries and languages as well. Sure, to decompile the .exe and .dll might give some answers, but I do not see the point since we cannot modify SF2 this deep.

Ah I see I was getting ahead of myself then. I've seen the amazing work people did for game like GTA V which aren't modder friendly at all. It had me wondering what scripts could be written for SF2 and what those limitations could be. Not reverse engineering of course but to be able to try something neat like how WOFF changed things with MCFS...but not that much.

Probably C++, you can try de-compiling the executable or one of its DLLs to see more about the code behind the game

    Good luck learning,

I've been a programmer for the past 15+ years + 4 years of high school & junior college.. you can learn new things all the time 😉

    Will do.

And this is so true it's never too late to start learning. Of all the languages you use. Which is your preferred language and why?

  11. What language is SF2 written in?

I'm learning how to code and came across this site Free Code Camp which teaches all sorts of languages for free. For some reason coding is making more sense to me than High School English. I'm excited to finally be learning it too. So much so much so I'm learning as many languages as I can. I'm taking a Unity Engine online class to learn how to use the Unity Gaming engine (I'll learn how to use the Unreal Engine) and I came across a few other engines that use C++ and C# (which I know a little bit about).

There's so many things I'd like to do and now I can do them (or get close enough).

  12. @Nesher @Wrench

Epic Game Launcher is your friend. New free games every week. Sometimes you get some really good ones for free. For instance I got Assassin Creed for free. I got Watchdogs 1 and 2 for free. Farming Simulator 19 (I have a crop duster mod in there so I can get the flying going in a relaxing game :D) Troy was given away fore free there too along with Borderlands 2. I mean the games are old but I don't care because they're free and bug free as well. Elite Dangerous was the free game there a couple of weeks ago I think.

  13. Article From the Guardian

Hearing the news of his death this morning was a shock. I mean get that he lived a long life but still it was a shock to see the news. Allow me to share with you a couple of fond memories. Back in '96 I got a chance to fly for the first time with the EAA's Young Eagle program of which hew as an honorary member. That program really fueled my love for aviation. Sadly I never went to college and flew in the air force; however, my love of aviation has never diminished. Even got a chance to interview him; however, I never published his interview here because he didn't time to answer a lot of the questions and most of the questions could be answered by reading his book. But I do remember when his answer to one question though about what he felt when he broke the sound barrier and his reply was "A sense of accomplishment".

I have some pics of that certificate I got back in '96. I flew that small plane for all 10 seconds :) went down, went up, turned left, turned right, a total of 10 inches in either direction lol. The pilot said "you sure that's all you wanted to do?" Me: "yup I'm good".
