SF2 a time machine?
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Your comments made me remember the missile boats off the Libya coast, i also liked using penguin missiles on them and then watching out for the intercepting Mig 25 Foxbats that would come after you. Another mission that was really cool was flying over the North Cape to take reconaisance photo's of the submarine base at Murmansk whilst keeping a watchfull eye on the "stealth meter". i remember flying fast and low to avoid the Mig 29's and the IL76 Awacs aircraft, this game was really amazing back in its day. I too had the ZX Spectrum 128K, to me it was the ultimate gaming PC back in the 80's. -
SF2 a time machine?
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
what was your favorite theatre Stary? Mine was Libya, although I remember shooting down an Iranian F14 over the straights of Hormuz one time, which was a great tally as I knew they had very few F14's and no spares for them. As a modder im sure you have already discovered what I have today, i wouldnt be suprised if you havent flown a load of stealth recon missions over the Soviet Union in the F19 already??? -
SF2 a time machine?
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
This is what happened if you ejected over enemy territory and survived capture:- -
Okay, like its not obvious that SF2 takes you back in time, but today I manged to take myself back to my childhood using the Libya Terrain released by Wrench:- Does anyone remember F19 Stealth Fighter by Microprose, for those that dont then read up on it via Google http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-19_Stealth_Fighter Basically F19 puts you in the Gulf of Sidra and other places but for this topic we will stay in the Gulf of Sidra, close to Libya and you have to fly stealth and recon missions over Libya in order to "rank up, win medals" etc, the source of all good flight sims. Anyway, with SF2 and the Libyan terrain and the F19 available on this site I was able to transform myself back to when I was 15 years old bombing Tripoli and Benghazi, with the SF2 Exp pack mission editor I can relive my whole period of missions flown on this great flightsim back in 1988, only with better graphics!!!!! Basically SF2 can take you just about anywhere we used to fly in older sims, as we all know because we are lucky enough to have such fantastic talented modders, simply they are the "Jedi's" amongst the flight sim development community. For those of us that have been simming for the last few decades it gives is the chance to fly the missions we flew years ago but on better systems and games and under much more improved graphics and AI. Thank you CombatAce and Thirdwire for letting me fly back in time

Framerates
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I'd like to say a huge thanks to Boostjunky for resolving this issue for me, not only did he take the time to email the files i needed but he gave me comprehensive installation instructions, the result was much better framerates and a few very nice additions of some ground "eye candy" objects/targets. Thanks again mate, you're a credit to the community -
Avro Vulcan for SF2
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Thats a fair comment Jedii, the main reason I wanted the vulcan was I grew up at a base in England where they were stationed so its always been a huge favorite of mine, but for now all those other British Cold War jets will keep me happy for a long time yet:- The Avro Vulcan "Britains Nuclear Bomber", a daily sight when I was 6 years old living at RAF Scampton, England 1979, the noise was phenomenal!! -
Invisible tanks could be on battlefield within five years
GunnySonics replied to FastCargo's topic in CombatACE News
If I was in the Army as a tank commander my main concern would be losing the bloody thing, if your crew all got out to take a leak and then turned around and suddenly........where's the frickin tank gone!!!!! -

Didnt Saddam Husseins Iraqi Republican Gaurd have "invisible tanks" after Gulf War 1, or was it that there just wasnt any tanks around after the war???? -
Avro Vulcan for SF2
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
i think ill revert to FS2004 to fly the Vulcan then, im not confident enough to start modding SF1 aircraft for use in SF2 just yet, i've only had SF2 for a few weeks so I dont want to get any CTD's then spend the rest of the year trying to work out why lol!!! -
Sorry to hear you got laid off!!!! I have 2 and a half years left to serve in the Royal Navy Submarine Service, that will have been 22 years service done, my intention is to spend the next 22 years in the US Navy, as an F4 Pilot in Vietnam except I wont be dragging my ass out of bed until dinner time every day and I will fly whenever I want whilst throwing pizza boxes and empty beer cans out of the cockpit!!!

Avro Vulcan for SF2
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Thank you for the link Flogger, it seems like alot of time and effort and even a bit too much personal infomation is required from this site in order to gain access to thier files:- First Name: Last Name: City: State (is in USA): Country (if not in USA): email: Internet Service Provider if using free email: Username: Password: Its seems more like an application for a passport or a credit card, to be honest im not willing to give away this much personal information to total strangers My dreams of flying the V-Force bomber will have to remain just that......dreams -
does anyone have the files for the Avro Vulcan for SF2, im sure I saw one in the screenshots section last month but cant find it anywhere on the site, if anyone could pass on the files I would be willing to wash pots, cut grass, walk pets, clean windows, polish floors etc in return for this magnificent aircraft

Dogfights in the middle east
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Military and General Aviation
I especially liked the story of the Iraqi Pilot "Munir Radfa" and how he defected to Isreal in 1966 with his MIG 21, it was great see Isreali decals on the MIG 21 and see how they used it to test and train IAF pilots, (theres nothing better than having your enemys tools to gain the upper hand). Rumour tells that the Americans and the British were hot on the trail to get over to Isreal to inspect the MIG21 for Western intelligence, I imagine this was quite a blow to the Warsaw Pact confidence. The test pilot who had the task of flying the MIG 21 was quoted as saying he thought the aircraft was very reliable and required no maintenence after flying sorties, almost the only thing needed to maintain this plane was aviation fuel. further reading for anyone interested in this story:- http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article1875667.ece http://dover.idf.il/IDF/English/about/History/60s/1966/160801.htm -
Framerates
GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Boostjunky, i am running the Green Hell3 mod on top of the stock SF2 Vietnam, this is the only mod I have installed, I would appreciate any files you can share to improve framerates and I have also taken your advice on upgrading to a secondhand GTS250/260 from ebay. Many Thanks -
some really great shots, I especially like the Tiger Tornado and the Isreali Eagle, thanks for sharing, I have just updated my desktop background thanks to you
-
You're welcome Nesher, please check my other post in this forum ref "Dogfights in the Middle East", fantastic stuff you're pilots really are the best in the world and probobly have been for the last 50 years, in my opinion as a serviceman anyway.
-
I watched this on the Military Channel last week, fantastic stuff, some great CGI along with some real footage, Isreali pilots have to be the best in the world for experience, skill, nerves and ability!!! http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
-
a sad story, nevertheless one that deserves to be told though, thank you for bringing his name to my attention!
-
I thought someone on this site might enjoy this from Youtube:- Its a series where the BBC filmed onboard HMS Ark Royal in 1976, this particular snippet shows a Bucanneer Pilot that is having difficulty in landing on his Carrier and keeps overshooting, much to the frustration of the Ships Captain. I found it quite amusing to watch, but then I am a submariner in the Royal Navy so anything that involves struggling "Skimmers & Fish Heads" amuses me!!! Treat Yourselves:- There are quite a few of these episodes on youtube which includes footage of Bucanneers & Phantoms which I happen to think were the most amazing looking jets in the history of aviation.

GunnySonics replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
okay heres's what im going to do:- 1. Purchase a copy Windows 7 2. Install DX10 3. Reinstall SF2 V/I/E I will then run through the same scenario over Hanoi and see if there is any improvements, if not i will purchase an ATI Radeon HD 5750 and hopefully things will be much more improved, like I said earlier I am happy with the graphics quality its just the framerates at certain scenario's, I have 4GB RAM already installed. -
