  1. Hi Quack, I know you've been wanting a Sopwith Triplane for years. Sorry it took so long for me to get to it. I hope you'll find the time to download it and fly it when it's finished - and maybe make some skins? I've been playing around with animation for the shocks when the plane lands, but I still don't have it running smooth enough yet. Over the years I've figured out how to make more efficient models, so I've been able to add detail to the planes without sacrificing frame rate. For the last two years (at least) I've been able to include damage nodes in my planes. TGAs are something I should try out.
  2. I've started working on the Sopwith Triplane. I still have a lot of work to do on the skins; I also need to make a cockpit, make the LODs, work on the FM, and do a lot of tweaking. It will be a while before it's finished.
  3. Someone mentioned a Snoopy mod once. I looked for it, but couldn't find it. Maybe it was in Strike Fighters?
  4. The famous World War One Flying Ace comes to First Eagles. Snoopy. perched on his "Sopwith Camel" features an animated scarf, movable head, and a machine gun mounted in the "fuselage." He comes with one skin and a damage decal to show bullet holes when he's hit. There is also a Cockpit View. I only tested him in "Easy" mode. Handling, especially takeoffs and landings, may be hazardous in other modes. Credits Snoopy was created by cartoonist Charles Schulz in 1950. His first appearance as the WWI flying ace was in 1965. Snoopy and the other Peanuts cartoon characters are owned by Peanuts Worldwide LLC. Installation Instructions For both FE and FE2 - Unzip the file and copy the folder named "Snoopy" into your "Objects/Aircraft" folder. FlyableSnoopy.zip
  5. I was flying a recon mission in a Rumpler C.I. We had just reached our target when we were jumped by four Nieuports. One got on my wing man's tail but I was able to drive him off. I chased the Nieuport around for a while; I fired at him several times, but never came close to hitting him. Another Nieuport got on my tail; I broke off the chase and started dodging and weaving. My gunner got several shots off and finally brought him down. The Nieuports broke off and we returned to base. I guess I'm better at dodging and weaving than I am at chasing.
  6. Beautiful work. I like the skins. I especially like the menu screens. I hope you'll upload them when they're done. Edit-10/27/20 -- By the way, the Palestine Terrain was begun by Gepard for Strike Fighters. Wrench modified it for First Eagles. I modded Wrench's version (with his permission) and added a lot of ground objects, revised the tiles, and made a lot of changes to the targets - so I can't take full credit for the Palestine terrain.
  7. Hoping to liven things up around here - some screen shots from recent flights. I'd like to see your comments.
  8. Thanks everybody. I'm recovered and starting to get back to normal. Ojcar, as a health care worker you're in a challenging situation. I hope you'll continue to stay healthy, my friend. I spent some time flying on the Eastern Front during the past weeks. I really like the way the Sikorsky S-16 looks, but it's under powered and doesn't handle very well. Still sometimes I get lucky, sometimes I don't.
  9. I think this has been a hell of a year for everyone. I hope you're able to get back to the Polish map someday, Stratos. I've been looking forward to it. It might also be useful for the Eastern Front. I'm also looking forward to your additions, VonS. Whenever you find the time. There used to be a lot of modders around here. I don't think they've all gone away, I hope we'll see some new mods eventually. I've been playing FE when I have the time (working through Ojcar's Armchair Aces Campaigns.) Whenever I spot something, I'll go into "modder mode" and fix it, so I've made a lot of tweaks to terrains, ground objects, skins, even some aircraft details over the summer. But nothing major - I don't know if it's worth the effort of uploading the changes. Anyone else who is still playing and/or modding: Do you want to share some screenshots?
  10. Anyone still here? I had some health problems over the summer, but I'm recovered. I spent a lot of my down time playing First Eagles, and I've tinkered a little with some mods. I didn't get here very often, but I came around when I could. The activity here has dropped dramatically.
  11. VonS (and everyone else involved) thank you for pulling all of this together. The amount of work you did, researching and organizing, must have been phenomenal.
  12. Beautiful. Thank you for another great skin!
  13. The Galicia2 (Eastern Front) map would work for the southern part of the conflict. The city of Lemberg was renamed Lwow (today it is named Lviv). The Galicia2 map uses Austro-Hungarian names for the most part, most cities in the region also have Polish and/or Ukrainian names. The interesting thing about the Polish-Bolshevik war is that we would be able to have dogfights with the same planes - Fokker D.VII vs Fokker D.VII - Nieuport 17 vs Nieuport 17 - etc. I found some profiles here: http://worldatwar.net/chandelle/v2/v2n2/whitpole.html and here: http://worldatwar.net/chandelle/v2/v2n1/redfighter.html
  14. Nice skin! Is that a three color camo, or are my eyes playing tricks? What terrain is that?
  15. View File Halberstadt CL.II The Halberstadt CL.II was a German, 2 seat fighter/escort plane. The CL.II was designed to be an escort for reconnaissance flights. Its excellent maneuverability made it a match for single seat fighters and its field of fire made it an excellent ground attack plane. It entered service in August 1917 and was used in large numbers until the end of the war. The Halberstadt CL.II had a plywood fuselage and was powered by a six-cylinder Mercedes D.III engine. It had a 7.92mm Spandau machine gun in the front fuselage for the pilot and a 7.92mm Parabellum gun on a ring mount for the observer. It could also carry a light bomb load. My version has a rack for 10 stick grenades mounted on the fuselage. My download includes a hex camo skin, appropriate decals, and a fully functional cockpit. My skinning templates are included with the download. I have included a sound file for the Mercedes D.III engine. The same sound has been used with other planes and you may already have it installed. I have included the sound file with the download in case you don't have it. Credits My thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Halberstadt CL.II and for making improvements to the guns. My thanks to Nixou for making the sound file for the Mercedes engine many years ago. Installation Instructions For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "HalberstadtCL2" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. If you don't already have it, move the sound file "mercedes160m2.wav" from my "Sounds" into your "Sounds" folder. For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "HalberstadtCL2" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "HalberstadtCL2." Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/HalberstadtCL2 folder into the Decals/HalberstadtCL2 folder you just made. If you don't already have it, move the sound file "mercedes160m2.wav" from my "Sounds" into your "Sounds" folder. If you don't have a Sounds folder, you can make one. 16. I have uploaded the Halberstadt CL.II (still awaiting administrator approval.) The download includes a hex camo skin, some decals, a fully functional cockpit, and a loadout for the grenades. My skinning templates are included. The Halberstadt CL.II was used in large numbers on the Western Front during the last year of the war. It was originally intended to be an escort for reconnaissance planes, but its speed and maneuverability made it good fighter. It was also used extensively as a ground support plane. My thanks to Ojcar for making the FM and for making some improvements to the guns. My thanks also to Nixou for making the sound for the Mercades D.III engine.

  18. I should point out that in addition to his suggestions, Ojcar has done a lot of work for all my planes. He's made all the FMs for my planes, he's also corrected problems and made improvements for most of the things I've done for First Eagles. It seems like he only gets one line in the Read Me file each time, he deserves a lot more credit. Concerning the Sopwith Triplane - I need to finish the Halberstadt first, then I'll look at the Tripe again.
  19. That's it. Geezer posted several screen shots starting a little more than a year ago. His is actually farther along than mine is.
  20. Thanks for noticing. The grenades are stock weapons in FE. I spent a couple hours tweaking the weapons stations and the model to get them to line up so nicely. I actually started a Tripe at one point, but then Geezer showed screen caps of one he was working on, so I backed off.
  21. Ojcar recommended this late-war German fighter/ground attack plane. It has a 160hp water cooled 6 cylinder engine capable of speeds up to 165 kph. It carries a synchronized Spandau in the fuselage and has a Parabellum on a ring mount for the observer. There is a rack of 10 stick grenades on the port side - the grenades will drop one by one. This is about half done, I'm hoping to be finished by Christmas. The real world is keeping me busy, but I'm hoping...
  22. Will the parachute be included in your update?
  23. I'm enjoying the new Armchair Aces over Italy campaigns. It took me a while to get my Italian Front install sorted out - mostly by adding planes and skins. I'm using FE1 and haven't encountered any problems, I didn't have to do any editing at all so far. (The nice thing about FE is - even if you don't have all the planes, the campaigns will still launch, you just won't be able to select some squadrons in the menu screen.)
Nice variety of planes and missions. Plays well in my install of FE1 with no editing.
  24. Excellent!
