The Taliban look great in their new uniforms but the choppers have seen better days https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-asia-58393243

Don't think that accounts for the amount that fled Afghanistan during the chaos of the retreat. Doubt they could keep a lot of the aircraft operational anyway without support.

SF2: Operation Desert Storm 30th Anniversary Updated
MigBuster posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
The ODS Dev team is proud to announce the second official release of Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary Edition, now reaching version 0.9.5. Six months had passed since the first release of January 17th 2021, six months in which the development team did not rest, producing a wealth of tweaks, bug fixes and exclusive, brand new additions to this comprehensive package. Unwanted bugs found their way in the January release, due to time constraints and the team wanting to meet the deadline in time for the 30th anniversary of this historic operation. Now we offer a much more refined and expanded experience, with quality of life improvements and welcome bonuses. Be sure to read the massive (albeit summarized) change log (Operation Desert Storm: 30th Anniversary Edition - Early Access) to learn more about all of the efforts that went into this new release. The package is free for download to all official Modders and Subscribers of the site. Those whose 2021 6-month subscription plans expired have been granted access to the package at no extra cost. Users who acquired the mod via a 1-month subscription plan will have to renew it for access to this brand new release. CombatACE.com admins thank you for your support towards the monthly costs of the site. From the Official announcement: -
Do you think you will ever meet the other one? ;) Have never seen these board games myself - what year were they released?

It was known from the outset back in 2001 by most not writing in crayon that rule number One of the colonial war handbook (which this is despite the remarketing) is never invade Afghanistan! Therefore the exit strategy was also known to be very difficult but they have had 20 years to work something out which could only include getting the natives onside. That quote just goes along with how do you turn a nation so backward into some kind of democracy when the majority of Afghans probably see foreign invaders with values that do nothing but insult their beliefs! Also why should they have other peoples ideals forced upon them by military invasion..........just provides more recruits for the Taliban. The chosen exit strategy appears to be an exact replica of Nixon's in Nam and I am not just talking about a few Helicopter shots.............. even starting with a half arsed deal that didn't suit the Afghan government and left the Taliban in control of large parts of the country before pulling out! On the face of it these people running this don't appear to have 2 brain cells to rub together.............it is an absolute farce and a demonstration of outright stupidity on an international scale!!

UK military commander: 'We've betrayed' Afghans who helped British troops' Major General Charlie Herbert, a military commander from the UK’s campaign in Afghanistan, has accused the government of betraying Afghans who supported British troops. Herbert, who left the army two years ago, is trying to help hundreds of interpreters and support staff whose work with allied forces means their lives are now at risk. Nothing to see here all normal
-
Definitely some comparisons with the pull out of Nam but also correct to say South Vietnam did initially put up a fight...........it took much longer for the North to break through instead of this stroll in the park. A Vet was on TV today bemused at how much time he / they had spent training up the Afghan forces over the last decades......so at least the Talibans army will be better trained if we have to go back
-
I am sure our glorious leaders are very sorry for this mess Remains to be seen whether the Taliban can keep AQ and ISIS at bay or even if they are going to be a bit more democratic/liberal this time............... but I wont be putting any money on it. If it wasn't such a catastrophe for the Astan people this BBC text could be a "Yes Minister" Sketch:
-
Bagram AB has gone and Kabul is surrounded so afraid not much Curbing of the Taliban will be taking place.
-
I expect people are falling off their chairs with surprise. The evacuation from Embassies seems familiar.........cannot quite place it.
-
Doubtful BMS has about 30+ different F-16 versions by default where as DCS has one............a 2007 USAF F-16C Block 50 only.
-
If you have the time then suggest learning something new..............the FA-18 with Link 16 makes A-A a cinch and has Helmet mounted HOBS missiles so thus dominate modern A-A scenarios. Eurofighter will be the same but rumours Meteor will be added so you can be king of the airquake servers I guess. I would say that JF-17 is actually one of the best DCS modules by far so worth considering.

There has been some musing from the pres that the US will try to assist the Astan from afar.............and afar really does seem to mean that. Maybe they will stay in touch with MS Teams or Zoom! https://choice.npr.org/index.html?origin=https://www.npr.org/2021/05/17/997494815/the-u-s-looks-to-support-the-afghan-military-from-over-the-horizon Glad I saved this from 2014:
