  1. PAK FA up close (3rd Sept) During the recent MAKS airshow, Sukhoi allowed for the first time journalists to have a look at the T-50 (PAK FA – Perspektivny Aviatsionny Kompleks Frontovoy Aviatsii—Future Tactical Air System) from short distance. http://theaviationist.com/2013/09/03/pak-fa-close/#.UiZZDjZ01Bo

  8. The "ballistic missiles" that Russian early warning radars detected over the Mediterranean sea on the morning of 3 September have been confirmed as two Sparrow target missiles launched from an Israeli air force Boeing F-15 during a joint Israeli/US test, performed as part of the development of the Arrow 3 ballistic missile interceptor. Israeli sources claim the Arrow 3 will have characteristics that will precede any other interceptor operational today. The system will use a new missile developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, which will intercept incoming ballistic missiles using a kinetic kill method, instead of the proximity warhead detonation technique fielded with Israel's current Arrow 2 batteries. Rafael is developing the Silver Sparrow target to simulate the trajectories of long-range ballistic missiles to support future testing of the Arrow 3, having won a competition against IAI. Its third-generation target weighs 3.2t, and is 8m (26ft) long. The new design follows the 1.4t Black Sparrow, developed in the 1990s to simulate the Scud-B ballistic missile in support of Israel's Arrow 1 programme, and the 1.8t Blue Sparrow (above), which imitates the more advanced Scud-D. Rafael has signed a co-operation agreement with Raytheon to market its Sparrow series of target missiles to the US Missile Defense Agency for future ballistic missile defence tests, and also for possible use by other allied countries. http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/israel-usa-perform-sparrow-target-missile-test-390118/
  9. Sukhoi's fifth-generation T-50 PAK-FA fighter was one of the highlights of the MAKS Moscow air show, as three of the company's prototype aircraft were displayed flying in formation for the first time. Speaking to journalists at the show, Russian air force commander Lt Gen Victor Bondarev said the PAK-FA project is at the experimental phase of its development. "Operable specimens continue to undergo tests by the manufacturer, in preparation for submission to the defence ministry for state acceptance trials," he says. These will last for three years, he adds, and will assess the PAK-FA's compliance with the air force's technical and tactical specifications. Several of the flight test aircraft will be moved from the third quarter of 2013 to a Russian air force base, for tests to be conducted by service personnel. Four flying examples of the PAK-FA have so far been produced, with another four to follow by the end of the 2013. Crowds also saw a flying display by one PAK-FA flown by Sukhoi chief test pilot Sergey Bodgan, which included a number of aerobatic manoeuvres never previously performed in public with the type. http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/maks-sukhois-pak-fa-makes-formation-debut-in-moscow-390109/

I most definitely came here to find about that terrific film.................. that seems to be stuck in the 1970's
  17. What would you say were the main mistakes apart from over confidence? I expect they thought it might be another trench warfare attrition affair (as WW1)

  19. ha - yeah that cats gonna get revenge - will probably involve digging claws in somwhere.
  20. Good find that - has loadout information for the centerline pod
  21. Is that a well known saying in Poland for that event?
  22. Thought that would have been made public somewhere. I suppose there would have been 10 years of radar development from 78 to the time the A-4K come off the line in 88 so its possible they overcome the antenna gain limits through other means. In 1988 the APG-68v / v1/ v4 were in use and the v5 was due for production jets from 89.
  23. Yes certainly the A-4Kahu upgrade gave it the best avionics an aircraft of that size could have had and a top line ability for that era.
