  1. File Name: [Renewed] CF-110K Phantom II - Royal Canadian Navy File Submitter: Sheriff001 File Submitted: 08 April 2013 File Category: The Combat Ace What If Hangar This contains three F-4K Phantom IIs in the markings of the Royal Canadian Navy. The real CF2H Banshee squadrons, VF-870 and VF-871 are portrayed. The three time periods of TK's F-4K DLC are represented, original, 75, and 80. For all, a standard US Navy Gull Grey/White skin is provided, and for the F-4K 80, a two-tone grey camouflage is also provided. The latter is similar to the camouflage seen on some US Navy and USMC F-4 Phantoms near the end of their service life. Modified F-4J loadouts are used. Please note carefully: You cannot use the inboard pylons and the AIM-9 rails simultaneously. If you load one, the other will empty. This is not a bug per se, this is simply an inbuilt limitation for the Spey Phantoms. The aircraft has been tested in a merged SF2 installation, patched to August 2012. Backstory The idea for this aircraft comes from my alternate history site. It was first operated by this alternate Royal Canadian Navy in 1968 (in this timeline, there was no unification in the Canadian Armed Forces) The aircraft was meant to serve on Canada's two Essex class carriers, HMCS Bonaventure and HMCS Magnificent in the fleet defence and strike roles. In order to get the performance required for such small carriers, a new turbofan was developed by Orenda, the Orenda Huron. Redesign of the Phantom airframe to accomodate the larger engine was done by Avro Canada. The article for the aircraft itself is found here:: http://themarshall.w...-4K.2FM_Phantom Installation ***********NOTE: TK's F-4K Phantom II from the DLC Store is required for this mod*************** Copy the contents of the Aircraft folder into your Aircraft folder. Copy the contents of the Decals folder into your Decals folder. No new weapons are offered. During the timeframe of this aircraft, the Royal Canadian Navy used standard US Navy non-nuclear weapons. Credits TK - For the SF series of games, the F-4K DLC, and the F-4 USN/USMC Skin Pack. 3. File Name: [Renewed] F-4K Phantom II - Royal Australian Navy File Submitter: Sheriff001 File Submitted: 08 April 2013 File Category: The Combat Ace What If Hangar This contains three F-4K Phantom IIs in the markings of the Royal Australian Navy. 724, 805, and 808 Squadrons are portrayed. 805 Squadron is portrayed operating from HMAS Melbourne, while 808 Squadron is based on Sydney. 724 Squadron is portrayed as a training squadron operating from HMAS Albatross, a Naval Air Station at Nowra, New South Wales. The three time periods of TK's F-4K DLC are represented, original, 75, and 80. For all, a standard US Navy Gull Grey/White skin is provided, and for the F-4K 80, a two-tone grey camouflage is also provided for 805 and 808 Squadrons. The latter is similar to the camouflage seen on some RAN A-4G Skyhawks near the end of their service life. I have included paulopanz's F-4K DLC enhamcement. I have included a squadrons.ini. This is not necessary for this mod, but is necessary for the RAAF and RCAF F-4M Phantoms. Incidentally, I'd suggest also getting Wrench's HMAS Australia (SCB-125 "What If") located here: http://combatace.com...cb-125-what-if/ Backstory The RAN proposed the acquisition of Essex class carriers to the Government in 1964 to replace the Majestic class HMAS Melbourne. The aircraft the RAN proposed was the F-4B Phantom. Operating an F-4B from the relatively small deck of an Essex class carrier is problematic, to say the least. On the other hand, the F-4K Phantom modifications would enable the operation of a Phantom from such a small deck. For further on this (including the RAN proposal itself) see the following: - http://www.secretpro...hp?topic=8449.0 For an alternate backstory, see this page on my wikia site: - http://themarshall.w...-4K.2FM_Phantom Installation ***********NOTE: TK's F-4K Phantom II from the DLC Store is required for this mod*************** Copy the contents of the Objects folder into your Objects folder. 7. File Name: F-4F (80) Norm 81B Camouflage File Submitter: PraetorH File Submitted: 28 September 2012 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Skins History of the Norm 81 camouflage: Since the mid 70ies German fighter pilots from Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" and Jagdgeschwader 74 "Mölders" increasingly complained about the old one-fits-all aircraft camouflage of the Luftwaffe called Norm 72 (Standard 72, named after the year of introduction). Its large geometrically arranged areas in olive-green and gray worked well camouflaging an aircraft on the ground and even in low level flight over the equally geometrical fields of Germany. But the dark colours also drew massive attention in high altitude combat. Worse, the oversized Iron Crosses and serial numbers with their high contrast black and white lettering made the aircraft even easier to spot. In the later 70ies, Luftwaffe command encouraged its fighter pilots to develop new paint schemes. “Richthofen” and “Mölders” in particular were eager in devising trial camouflages. Most of them massively reduced the greens and put stronger emphasis on grays, while shrinking the markings a lot. (I do not know if it was intentional or not, but some resembled WWII Luftwaffe interceptor camouflages.) These were to become the basis for the official Norm 81. Norm 81 was to be used by fighters and fighter-bombers alike, and applied to Phantoms which were upgraded to Peace Rhine-standard. When they were upgraded to ICE-standard, Norm 81 was replaced by the more modern Norm90J – the first German paint scheme intended for fighters only. Description of the Norm 81 camouflage: The aircraft camouflage is dominated by two shades of light gray (Lichtgrau, Steingrau) on the lower surfaces and the sides. Only the upper surfaces of the wings and the topsides of the fuselage along the spine and the engines were painted with three dark shades of gray (Quarzgrau, Basaltgrau, Staubgrau) and one shade of green-gray (Grüngrau). The early schemes deliberately featured soft edges for the colours blending them better into each other. Later this was given up, as weathering did that job rather well, too. The national markings were reduced in size and number; the Iron Cross was applied top to the left wing and bottom to the right wing, and on both sides of the fuselage. Early in the 80ies, the old Norm 72-warnings continued to be used, until replaced with toned down warnings. For flight safety some aircraft sported high visibility markings, most notably when transferred to low level fight training in Goose Bay, Canada. These markings could be painted on the top fuselage, under the nose, on the wing tips and on the stabilizers varying in size and colour. Many crews seemed to favour red or yellow, but green or blue was seen often as well. Only few had white or dayglow markings. Norm 81 was used in two variants, A for geometrical shapes on the wings, tail and the fuselage downside, and B for rounded shapes. B seems to have been the preferred choice by the units. Advise on the use of the skins in SF2: The combination of soft colour edges and Norm 72-markings makes these skins suitable for campaigns set in the early and mid 80ies. However in the late 80ies they would look rather out of place. Skins included: I included one Norm 81B skin for every German wing equipped with F-4F: Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" Jagdgeschwader 74 "Mölders" (flying 'denamed' as JG 74 today) Jagdbombergeschwader 35 (flying reorganized as JG 73 “Steinhoff” today) Jagdbombergeschwader 36 (disbanded today, flew as JG 72 in its last days) Requirements: You need the F-4F (80), but the skins should also fit on the F-4F (ICE). Also, F-4F and F-4E may work more or less. Installation: Just unzip and drop the folder in your SF2 mod directory, usually it is: C:\Users\xxx\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 yyy Credits: Ravenclaw_007 for his template (based on Sundowner's F-4E template), and his decals which I am using. 9. View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4EZ Phantom McDonnell Douglas F-4EZ Phantom for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4E_78 to create a fictional South African Air Force F-4EZ Phantom in service with No.2 Squadron in the following schemes and timeframes; 1. 1979-1981 A 'Mirage F.1CZ' style scheme with tricolour fin and 'Springbok' national markings. 2. 1982-2002 As above but with the later style of national markings. 3. 2003-2012 Final Grey scheme with toned-down national markings. It goes without saying that you must have the F-4E_78 LOD's in your install and you'll also need the Mirage 3CZ DLC for the V3B Kukri and serial number decals although there are some easy workarounds if you don't. The idea for this 'what if' came from Stratos who created the 'Mirage F.1CZ' style skin whilst I did the tank skins, decals and packaging so it's an Anglo-Spanish joint venture and we hope that you enjoy it! BACKSTORY During the mid-1970's the South African Government made tentative enquiries regarding purchasing the McDonnell Douglas Phantom for the South African Air Force (SAAF) with no success but in February 1977 the incoming Democrat President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, and the South African State President Nicolaas Diederichs agreed to the purchase of 30 F-4EZ's for delivery in 1979 and these were among the very last St. Louis-built Phantoms produced. Entering service with No.2 Squadron 'The Flying Cheetahs' of the SAAF the F-4EZ's initially operated from Hoedspruit AFB before moving to Louis Trichardt AFB in early 1993. With SAAF Impalas, Buccaneers and Mirage F.1CZ's operating in the ground-attack role the Phantoms saw limited action in the Border War but at least four Angolan MiG-21's and two Mi-17 helicopters were shot down by No.2 Squadron. The surviving F-4EZ's were finally retired in 2019 when they replaced by Eurofighter Typhoons. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4EZ folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4EZ folder into your main Decals folder. 3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the V3B4 folder into your main Weapons folder. That's it! File Name: F-4K Phantom II - Royal Australian Navy File Submitter: Sheriff001 File Submitted: 18 August 2012 File Category: The Combat Ace What If Hangar This is an F-4K Phantom II in the markings of the Royal Australian Navy. 805 and 808 Squadrons are portrayed. F-4J loadouts are used. The aircraft has been tested in a merged SF2 installation, patched in August 2012. On the other hand, the extra power of the Spey-engined Phantom would enable the operation of a Phantom from such a small deck. View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas F-4E 'ADC' USAF McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4E 'ADC' for Strike Fighters 2 This is a simple mod of the stock F-4E_72 to make a fictional interceptor version of the Phantom for service with the USAF in the 1973 to 1998 timeline. 'What if' markings for four ANG squadrons are included; 1. 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron - Texas ANG 2. 119th Fighter Interceptor Squadron - New Jersey ANG 3. 186th Fighter Interceptor Squadron - Montana ANG 4. 198th Fighter Interceptor Squadron - Puerto Rico ANG BACKSTORY During early 1970 a USAF review of America's air defence assets highlighted the increasing obsolescence of several aircraft including the F-101, F-102 and F-104 and whilst early F-4C Phantoms were trickling down to the ANG units McDonnell Douglas could see an opportunity to sell an optimised 'Air Defense' version of the F-4E to the USAF to swiftly and cost-effectively modernise a large proportion of Aerespace Defense Command. During this time McDonnell Douglas had studied various single-seat or stripped-down versions of the F-4 for the German Air Force but for the USAF they proposed a version of the slatted F-4E with all air-to-ground capability removed, slightly more powerful 'clean burn' J79 engines, simplified air-to-air only radar and the new solid-state AIM-7F Sparrow missile offering longer range with its two-stage rocket motor. By this time the massive production run of the F-4 had meant that the fly-away unit cost for this simplified version of the F-4E made it one of the cheapest Phantoms ever and such was the confidence that the USAF had in McDonnell Douglas that in March 1971 they simply asked for a fixed-price quotation for 300 F-4E 'ADC' aircraft and ordered them in April 1971! First flown in June 1972 the F-4E 'ADC' were delivered in a smart and glossy 'air defense' grey scheme and entered service with the 198th Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the Puerto Rico ANG in February 1973 replacing the F-104C's and F-104D's of that unit. Sadly, eight of the 198th's Phantoms were destroyed in a terrorist attack at Muniz ANGB in January 1981 and the unit operated several 'standard' F-4E's until 'ADC' versions could be allocated to them. View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4L (USMC) McDonnell Douglas F-4L (USMC/USN) Phantom for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4M_75 to give a fictional USMC Phantom F-4L with markings for VMFA-333 'Shamrocks'. Also included is a USN VF-111 scheme that generally uses stock decals but is included here to give a blank F-4L tail for you to do other squadrons by using stock decals. It goes without saying that you will need to have the F-4M_75 from SF2:Europe. BACKSTORY With all the considerable design effort being put into the marriage of the Phantom airframe and the Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engine McDonnell Douglas thought it might be a good idea to propose a version to the US Navy to allow the Phantom to operate from the smaller carriers that were limited to F-8E Crusaders. In June 1966 the designation F-4L was given to the proposed Spey-powered Phantom and in October 1966 an initial order for 130 F-4L's (USN/USMC) was made, followed by an unexpected export order of 30 F-4L's for the Royal Australian Navy. Deliveries to the US Navy commenced in February 1969 with VF-24 becoming the first operational squadron followed by VMFA-333. By this time the wisdom of operating such a relatively large aircraft on the older, smaller carriers was being questioned and most F-4L's served aboard the larger carriers or with land-based units. When the decision was made not to re-equip the USMC 'fighter-attack' Phantom squadrons with the hugely expensive Grumman F-14A Tomcat, McDonnell Douglas pushed hard for low-rate production of the F-4L to continue specifically for USMC use and they were eventually successful meaning that production continued until 1976 with an eventual total of 306 F-4L's being built. Apart from Australia, F-4L's also served with the Royal Air Force where 15 ex-USN F-4L's were sold to the UK Government to allow the formation of an additional home-based Phantom squadron to release a squadron for the defence of the Falkand Isles. BACKSTORY During late 1966 with the USA getting more and more embroiled in the Vietnam war it was decided to re-equip several USAFE units with the British licence-built F-4M so as to release older tactical aircraft such as the F-100D and F-105D for Vietnam where attrition was now a very serious issue. McDonnell Douglas had already brought together a UK sub-contracting team consisting of BAC, Hawker Siddeley, Rolls-Royce (for the Spey turbofan engines) and Shorts with final assembly and flight testing being carried out at St. Louis but, with one eye on the European market, McDonnell Douglas moved final assembly to Brough (North Humberside) with flight testing at Holme on Spalding Moor. This decision came a bit late for the Royal Navy whose F-4K aircraft continued to be assembled and flight tested in the USA but all F-4M's were produced in the UK with all odd production numbers being allocated to the RAF and all even numbers to the USAFE with Lakenheath and Bitburg becoming the first USAFE wings to re-equip with the type. Entering service with the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing based at RAF Lakenheath in England in 1970 the F-4M's received a modest upgrade during 1973-1974 to emerge with the Marconi ARI18228 RWR mounted on the fintip and also gained 'slimer' formation-keeping strip lights. The USAF F-4M's had a relatively long career with USAFE and were eventually replaced by F-15E's during 1990 and just missed out on participation in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. It goes without saying that you will need to have the F-4M_75 from SF2:Europe. BACKSTORY During the build up to Operation Corporate (the UK's military operation to retake the Falkland Islands) the UK Government were overwhelmed at the support given by the countries of the Commonwealth and, in particular, the response of the Australian and New Zealand Governments who provided ships to maintain the UK's NATO commitments and thus allow the Royal Navy to maximise the number of ships it could send to the South Atlantic. In the following years there were many reciprocal deals made and favours given to the Commonwealth nations (and even Chile!) and one such 'favour' was the transfer of 18 ex-RAF Phantom FGR.2's in 1988. The 18 FGR.2's, only recently withdrawn from RAF service, were ferried out to New Zealand (most still in their dirty grey camo scheme) during Operation Saddleback before arriving at Ohakea for refurbishment by a joint McDonnell Douglas/RNZAF team that saw the aircraft eventually emerge in a new 'Forest' style camo scheme and with digital INAS, upgraded RWR and new outer wing panels. Entering service with No.2 squadron in early 1989 (supposedly as the Karearea but they were always simply called Phantoms) the aircraft gave good service to the Royal New Zealand Air Force during the 1990's until finally being retired in December 2001 when, indeed, all 'Air Combat Force' aircraft were sadly withdrawn from service. INSTRUCTIONS 1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4M_89 folder into your Aircraft folder. 2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4M_89 folder into your Decals folder. 3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the SUU-23G folder into your Weapons folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim. And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community. Regards Spinners Version 2 - February 18th, 2024.

From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4E_Dh folder into your Decals folder. That's it! CREDITS As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
